PS: Hmmm - I still wonder how you get that I2S signal out of the PC... ;-)

With a modified soundcard, easier is one with via envy24 chipset. Easiest on esi juli@.
527  Ultimate Audio Playback / Playback Tweaks and Source related subjects / Re: Ram problems on: July 04, 2009, 07:44:47 pm
finnaly,

I took my PC apart,
Because still having those BSOD 's everyday

And whatteyouknow - faulty RAM (this going on for 4 to 5 weeks now, OS could have errors too and have to check all my FLAC that I have moved around from disk to disk) Sad

But cannot exactly determine witch RAM or maybe MB slot
Want to make sure witch one is the faulty

When testing all 2GB Ram seperately nothing to be found
Problems start with 2x2GB (now having 6GB and everything is fine and pc is already running 24 hours without problems)

Is there a better way to test this then memtest.exe ?

memtest x86, from bootable cd.
2h at least. One ram bank at a time.

Sorry, there is no better choice. Once i brought two dimms to a shop and let them test cuz i didnt have a working pc at the time. I was lucky that they did it for free Happy One was faulty and i got rma from crucial in <1month. Of course in the meanwhile i already bought other faster dimms and sold the crucials when i got them from rma :D

RAM errors are VERY common, even if you dont overclock them.

You probably don't want to say that differences kept on being there until the boundary of 8GB was surpassed (like from 8-12 GB it didn't matter anymore).

Instead that's exactly what i wanted to say Happy

PS: Just for fun : all these kind of things are peanuts, including XX itself. Come over and listen, and "see" that working on these peanuts is a waste of time (yea yea I mean the DAC)

I'm just waiting for your invitation (and pleas take note that usually i need to book the flight with 1 month advance at least).

I tried to read it upside down, but still don't understand. Was it too late for you, or is it too early for me ? whistle

Btw, I tried with 0 GB. Completely black. Of course this is a virtue of the memory player. yes

Probably me... :D
Anyway i meant physical ram not pagefile.
530  Ultimate Audio Playback / Playback Tweaks and Source related subjects / 4GB vs 8GB on: July 02, 2009, 01:55:23 am
Somebody said that he heard differences raising the memory up to 8GB, then the differences where gone (diff software so apples and oranges).

Because DDR2 and 3 is dirt cheap nowadays, anyone tried or can try this on his computer?
I planned to get 4GB for my dedicated computer, and with xxhe architecture more shouldnt offer any improvement.

hmmm

PS: Roy you better enable AHCI with a SSD.

Yep, they leaked out the pre-rtm.But I'm not doing a reinstall.
And the difference between the RC (7100) and the 7127 is not that much, I believe.
(more consumer friendly)

yep! But I'm getting 7232 which is very close to the RTM (which they didnt choose yet).

But don't you need a key?

I have RC keys, hope they'll work with that.

And what do you think will be the retail prices for W7 x64 ? Sad

Convert the ones in $ to euro with a 1:1 change. So, pretty high imo. Wait for OEM version.
Who needs MS phone support anyway? Even the support on thechnet isnt that great. I had an issue with the system restore and they couldnt find a solution (= reinstall).

W7 (Build 7100)

My Vista x64 install got a bit messy I think and I decided to do a reinstall and removing the dual boot (w7 build 7022). I also have the official RC, but I'm downaloading a pre-rtm (two actyually Wink ).
Gotta play with them soon... unless i get the new speaker baffles first!

Can now say for sure W7 beats Vista on really everything.
Even my Esi Julia soundcard drivers perform better on W7

Nice nice Happy
Which version of W7 are you using? First RC or something newer?
Not sure when they implemented the TRIM command (which is for me very important for using a SSD).

Intensive boot up sequence tests after an almost perfect defrag with mydefrag (IMHO) clearly showed that ReadyBoot - which is dependent from ReadyBoost service - should be left enabled.

Boot up times are indeed much faster than without ReadyBoot (after some learning period). I am landing on Desktop around 5sec. after entering the password and the autostart programs are loading very quickly.

I think that's worth it leaving it enabled.

You don't ave a SSD, do you?
How much ram?

Q about volume control:

No digital volume control possible during playback?

just found out is doesn't. so

The DAC has a volume control done the right way.

Ehhm, but don't think RAID is a backup !!
Make one mistake (you, player software, other) and all is lost. yes
RAID only prevents you from hardware failure.

No, it's not, but it is a very viable solution for a multi-terabyte archive. it's not so unreliable, though (esp raid1, which is my suggestion up to 3 TB of data) where you dont loose anything, even if you unplug one disk.
540  Ultimate Audio Playback / Playback Tweaks and Source related subjects / Re: IDE vs AHCI on: June 19, 2009, 07:57:50 pm
AHCI is better if you have two or more disk drives, since it overcomes some of the singletasking bottleneck of IDE.

Of course for storage, raid 1 (or 5, 6, 50 and so on) is the way to go imo. We all have huge amount of data that we would have trobule backupping every month or more.
