Well, for those awaitening the 8 channel version ... you are almost looking at it.

But not mine... i think grazy

Don't get me wrong, because the 8 channel version isn't there yet.

92  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: W7 x64 SP1 booting from 2,5" 80GB HDD on: January 11, 2011, 12:47:27 pm
If you keep BOTH discs connected, it will boot only the first (in the bios sequence). I would do this way for a quicker A/B comparison.

Maybe -without noticing it- I do something strange then, but by now my OSes are all over the place (disks), as are my choices where to boot from. But, of course it is so that when you add a "boot" my means of just stuffing in an image copy, this is not another "dual boot" so to say, so indeed that requires a sequence change in the BIOS. But what is difficult about that ? Okay, I know one : when your physical disks (the brand/type) are the same, you won't know which one is which because you have to choose them by physical disk name.

That and not having to go into bios every time, you can name w7 SSD and w7 HDD in the bootloader and that's it. It's more reliable and quicker to do a/b.

But personally I find EasyBCD a kind of "dangerous"; It is already difficult to find the version which suits your OS (for others : Google will lead you to XP versions, but even W7 versions exist !) and within EasyBCD itself all is as unclear.

the latest version always worked for me since vista times (and saved my bottom more than once). It never corrupted anything (but if that should happen to you, the vista/w7 recovery from the DVD is as good as it gets -without scsi discs*-).

[*to find again MY w7 install i had to install first 2008 r2 and THEN use easyBCD from there - crazy uh?]

(easybcd is then needed to give you boot access to both).

Hey Telstar ... But why would that be ?
(not my experience, although with an image copy that would be between two SSDs ...)

Any idea?

Try a system restore.
95  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: W7 x64 SP1 booting from 2,5" 80GB HDD on: January 10, 2011, 08:12:00 pm
Each install is not comparable, unless you use the same image to clone both disks.
Windows is so unpredictable that one installation may be DIFFERENT from the other, and therefore sound different.
x64 *should* be better. But SSD vs HDD should be the other way around, I think.

If somebody can clone its install on a SSD it would be very nice to compare thereafter (easybcd is then needed to give you boot access to both).

Well Icame across this thread last night and decided to download all the updates because I don't know where to get SP1 (microsoft website?)

yes:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=C3202CE6-4056-4059-8A1B-3A9B77CDFDDA&displaylang=en
(english OS required i think)

My wife tends to talk a lot when I try to listen. Normally I don't even hear her, but instead apply some techniques showing her I do. Not so today.
Today I listened to her.

Oh you have to teach me how to do it, please Happy

99  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: Challenging hiend cd player/transport result on: December 12, 2010, 06:15:52 pm
Telstar, that's quite something to say from believable theory but they don't work like your believing theory at all. I suggest you to try making comparison if clock under 1ppm actually make no difference in any proper system first and then we can discuss this in details.

It's because usually ultralow ppm clocks are also better regarding other specs, such as NOISE.

Anyway, do you know that changing BNC cable, putting resonance control items and power conditioning like outlet and powercord in masterclock affacts sound in system?

Yes, I do.

But seriously, if I never have heard about < 1ppm masterclock configuration with quite OK configuration that can make transport works as it should be, I wouldn't be able to hear harmonics and inner details to great degree why transport really matters.

I'll say once and for last, since you keep repeating this.
The PPM of an oscillator means only the capacity of keep the same timing over time, that is 1ppm it will take a year (IIRC) before it changes the timing.
It doesnt say A WORD about the jitter, which should be as low as possible, and it is measured in picoseconds (ps).

spdif input (preferrably toslink) without the A/D would be possible? I just need it for the tv.

yes i know, i still have to reply to your email...
102  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: Challenging hiend cd player/transport result on: December 10, 2010, 01:21:44 pm
You can also try comparing between mastering hires files to conventional cd disc. It seems plastic still works better than memory. I could set something wrong though.

Try a DXD file.

Edit: ah sorry you cant. Wink
103  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: Challenging hiend cd player/transport result on: December 09, 2010, 09:05:10 pm
You're talking about hi-end industry, where price has no transposition to quality - at least not linear as you may think.

104  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: Does buffering time (latency) affact SQ in your system? on: November 29, 2010, 04:29:29 pm
3. I DID hear all of your best XXHighEnd configurations. I DID stated that people whom I know including me heard the comparison between paid version XXHighEnd and $15k CD Player. And result for golden ears was defeat of XXHighEnd in many aspects. I DID throw away all theories for listening tests and verdict is XXHighEnd couldn't beat standalone average $15k CD Player, let alone $30-50k separated CD transport/DAC/clock system. It could be Weiss' firewire fault for that though but I didn't own one right now so making illegal test is out of question.

With what reference-level DAC did you hear that?
Besides, theoretically an integrated CDP is better than two separates, but they have to make more money giving you two boxes with two psu and lots of metalwork, otherwise is not highend Wink

You couldnt have tried ALL possible combinations hardware, software AND DAC, as you claim.
If you spend some time studying the stuff (like i did 2 years ago, yes 2 years), you would realize that ALL means to connect a DAC to a computer are intrinsecally worse than the transport-dac connection in a CDP, hence the latency cannot be lower.

Telstar.
105  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your questions about the PC -> DAC route / Re: The best amp and speaker setup for digital playback on: November 26, 2010, 11:12:53 am
The main issue and answer is that with a bigger amp problems can be solves if they occur! Hmm, did one of you ever take a look at the NAT Transmitter monoblocks? They deliver 120 W pure class A Single ended.... Nice pair!

How many paralleled devices? silicon or vacuum?
120W SE class A is really an achievement.
