15511  Ultimate Audio Playback / Download Area and Release Notes / Activation ... How ? on: June 24, 2007, 05:42:26 pm
This is obsolete now and pre 0.9z-7.

You must have one PC at least that is connected to the Internet.

This PC, or just one of the others if you have more, will arrange for the Activation Code (the PayPal button in the UnDemo section in 0.9a or higher).
On this PC the license will be stored.

Edit (June 2008) : You may just as well assume that all of the below does not work. It doesn't work for many people anyway. Therefore it is best if you connect the audio PC to the Internet temporarily.
Since the license is for your household it would have been convenient if the below would have worked. The current solution is to send me an email (or PM via this forum) so I can get you another license for your household when needed.

When you want to play your Audio from other PCs, on these other PCs - in the field for "Activation Code" (UnDemo section) you enter the path to the PC where the license is stored. This *needs*
- A LAN connection to this other PC;
- A share on the other PC to the drive where XXHighEnd is "installed" (better : has been put).

On the PC(s) you want to play the Audio, the path must be entered as follows :
\\ComputerName\ShareName\FolderName\

So let's say that the PC where the license is stored is called "MyPC01" and that XXHighEnd is installed in the folder "XXCurrentVersion" on drive C:.
Also, let's assume that you created a Share for drive C:, and that it is called "DRIVE_C_FromMyPC01". On the PC you want to play Audio, the path now looks like :
\\MyPC01\DRIVE_C_FromMyPC01\XXCurrentVersion\

When there is no LAN connection from the Audio PC to the PC where you obtained the Activation Code, the Audio PC will play in Demo Mode again ...

Below text updated June 28, 2007 :

From off 0.9b the facility of "copying" the Activation Code to another PC is added.

Edit : For this to work, ALL PCs must be upgraded to at least 0.9b first !

When two PC's are LAN connected, and PC-A received the Activation Code over the Internet, PC-B could refer to "License Holder" PC-A as per version 0.9a (described above).
As off now, PC-B can generate its own Activation Code, based upon the Activation Code from PC-A.

Edit November 3, 2007 : As it appears now because of (most probably) a Vista bug, when you have a dual boot, one boot could have a Workgroup (or Domain) Name "ABC" while the other boot has a Name "DEF" ... and internally the other one is used for connecting to the LAN opposed to what you see. Now, XXHighEnd also sees the "wrong" one because the Operating System presents it wrongly, and therefore the connection cannot be made properly. Solution : take care that all boots have the same Workgroup/Domain Name ! (no matter it did not bother you in normal life).

As before, on PC-B enter the reference path to PC-A (the original License Holder) and press Activate;
After all went OK, an obtained Activation Code will be shown in the field for Activation Code;
If you now press Activate again, a new Activation Code will be registered for PC-B.

The latter implies that you now can disconnect PC-B from the LAN and run XXHighEnd on it without the Demo running time.

This procedure implies that there are two ways of letting a second (etc.) PC in your household run XXHighEnd : the means of the reference path and the means of generating a new Activation Code;
Currently it is not sure what advantages both means might have for future options. Choosing for the one always allows for choosing for the other again, later.

There were two objectives for creating the means of "copying" the Activation Code :

1. You Activated one PC, but really wanted another, and it can't be LAN connected to the first;
2. You foresee that the PC holding the License has to be rebuilt etc.

The second case would be the same as anticipating on a computer crash which may happen sometime, so you should always "backup" your Activation Code by this means. Backup sounds heavy, but in this case it means :

Go to another LAN connected PC, install (ehh, copy-paste) XX, start XX, go to the UnDemo section and enther the path to the shared disk of the PC to "backup", press Activate Twice. Done.

Now keep this PC available when something goes wrong with the original. If so, you can do exactly the same as just described.

Please note that future upgrades can require the originally obtained Activation Code (which you might not even have running somewhere anymore), no matter that the newly generated Activation Codes are derived (and can be reversed) from the original. So always keep that original and ... don't pass it on to someone else, because your name is connected to it, hence you would have passed it on, and nobody stole it evil ).

To summarize an important thing :
If the only means of getting the Activation Code to your Audio PC is an USB stick (or similar offline means), it is not going to work by automation. There's a manual procedure though; contact me by email or PM when the manual procedure is needed.

It's ok Jack. And better, I solved it.
I have some other issues now though. I hope to upload a new version this afternoon.

Edit : Removed the zip because something is confusingly wrong in there.

From off this version (0.9) there is a new section "Undemo" containing a button to PayPal. By means of this button you can obtain an Activation Code for 72 euro.
If you don't want that : you can still use the Demo version (time restricted to 34 minutes on average) as long as you want.

Also see Install Notes and getting an Activation Key under "Getting an Activation Code" in there. Do read this !

Until it is kind of guaranteed that the Activation process runs without issues, XXHighEnd will maintain its beta status.

Careful !
At some stage you see that you will be asked to press "Continue" (see below for a dutch version of that screen). If you do not do so you won't receive your Activation Code by automation. If you do, a screen will follow containing your Activation Code, and within seconds you will be up and running.
So don't forget to press CONTINUE !!

Copy and paste the Activation Code in de appropiate field in the UnDemo section, quit the player and restart.

Please note : Currently Phasure is an "unverified" seller at PayPal, which is related to the procedure and an additional credit card which is needed (a credit card can be registered only once, and the one available was needed for testpurposes at another PayPal userid). Do not be afraid though.

Actually right now this is tested by selected persons. Until this red line is in here, do not proceed with the PayPal procedure !!

Current annoying issue with 0.9 and Engine #3 : The sound may stop with the message "Engine #3 did not start within the expected time" (similar). I hope to solve this asap.
Apart from the possibilty for Activation, there are no relevant changes opposed to 0.8c.

Wait a minute ...

... Not that I told it, but at 192K the Fireface's buffers should be at 256 from theory, at least (88K2 -> 128 = (more than double the rate) 256).

Logic ? well, no. Not if you think (uhhm ... like I did) that the buffer in the Fireface is meant to CAPTURE the data from the PC. But what if this buffer is meant (also ?) for feeding the DAC ??

Otoh, I think you reported that with the Fireface at 1024 you also have glitches ... or ?

and

What if you just don't let upsample the TacT ?

Watched through many glitches but cant see any discernible effect on the volume bars

Which tells at least that somewhere further down the line things go wrong. Note though, that IMO the volume bars derive their data from the Fireface itself, although I must say that I don't know whether the Direct Asio Monitoring is needed for that (to be On this time). So maybe re-check that (so, with On).

*If* I am right that the data comes from the Fireface, it would go wrong even *after* the Fireface. How ? ... towards your DAC ?
For that matter, I think you should check whether Analogue Out from the Fireface gives you the glitches as well ...

Uhohh ...

Unimportant :

Can you please tell which Engine and OS you use, and whether you Double or Upsample (yeah, the last both logically follow from something, but that's exactly why I ask).

and

Quote from: JohanZ
I am using engine#2 with double, Windows XP Pro.

I think here the confusement started, *also* because I split the topic into two, and the above was from the original etc., blablabla.  Happy

Then I added this to it :

Quote from: PeterSt
I assume that these tracks play with #1 (please let me know !!) .

With which I say (suggest) it just does (or should) work with #1, and I say this because (you say) it does not with #2 (this would be the e.g. Fireface situation with MME drivers). But as you say now : it does work with #2, this implies it does not with #1.

Everybody dizzy ?

Next time I'll ask questions more, and suggest less. thankyou
15518  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Sometimes no sound with #2 and Realtec ALC883 on: June 23, 2007, 12:15:33 am
No no no ...

In my first post above I am suggesting you should use #1 (because I think that that works), and I am STATING that #2 doesn't produce sound with a track over 6 minutes.

Quote
I don't use #1 because its limitation of 6 minutes

So ... is that (my) theory, or do you KNOW.
If the latter, you should say : "#2 behaves the same as #1"  ... and I don't think that is the case ...

Difficult and confusing ... Happy

When I select a other Output device and I switched XXHighEnd off and start it again then it don't remember the last setting!

Hmm ... #2 (and #3 currently) uses the Primary Device anyway. With #1 I don't know anymore whether I made it remember it (but it theoretically can do it anyway).

Never mind ... shouldn't have said it ... it just went wrong with me ...

15520  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: XX 0.8c feedback on: June 22, 2007, 08:27:51 pm
One other thing :

When this happens (no sound), after 60 seconds of that you should get a message that Engine #3 did not start within the expected time.
Do you ?
15521  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: XX 0.8c feedback on: June 22, 2007, 08:16:02 pm
If you quit XX, and try again ?
And if you ONE other time quit XX and try again ?

I'm experiencing similar, in fact from the beginning with #1. There I catured this very strange behaviour, and here (#3) I still must get a grasp of this.

So, 2 hours agoe I used 0.8c for the first time myself ... had the same as you describe, but then did as I said. No problems since.
You ?
15522  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Can we have a track timer please? on: June 22, 2007, 01:30:40 pm
For observation purposes this is a good idea. By default this will be off though because theoretically it will influence the quality.
15523  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Phase detection in the XX on: June 22, 2007, 01:27:54 pm
Unlimited upgrades for a main version (like 1.xx).
Currently I wouldn't know what would cause a major upgrade (like to 2.xx), but if so it would be against a relatively small fee. Cool
15524  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Phase detection in the XX on: June 22, 2007, 10:40:09 am
Additionally, a track can be normally out of phase as well. So the corection of that will be in there too.
15525  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Phase detection in the XX on: June 22, 2007, 10:34:27 am
Haha Gerner, I know you are waiting for that.

Well, to be honest, today I intend to have a "release" version of XXHighEnd, meaning no more and no less that you can pay to get rid of its demo activities. grazy So, it does not mean that all will be error free.

Is this related to your question ? well, yes;
Absolut Phase was on my list already, and currently I can do that with Engine #3 only. So, that had to run first.
Then, the next priority would be getting out of the annoying demo thing, which I'm currently working on. For who wants that of course.
After that, proper Absolute Phase is a real quality issue, and I planned to get that in, before getting everything error-free, though depending on the "error" of course. Remember, I created XX for soundquality and not for its beauty or more rare issues one can avoid.

If I succeed in getting the payable version today or maybe tomorrow, and *that* runs issue free by itself, I'd still have time for the weekend to get in the Absolute Phase functionality. You would be able to manually adjust it (right during playback), or set it to auto and then it will adjust things accordingly per track. And no, it will not rephase the woman her voice only.  Wink

Because I know you like the red light district, a red light will lit when twisting the phase is at order.  Happy
