Oh Colin, I never even thought of that "solution". Prize of the day ! (make that month).

Don't ask me whether the album sounds worse than normal RedBook. It may ... Maybe someone can check. You would need a local copy for that and a 44.1 which says it is MQA but shows 16 bits (or indeed the 1411 number). Never think that you can Prepare the MQA and next compare with a previously Prepared Redbook, because you will lose the latter (as stated in my previous post).

Regards and thanks !

Non MQA albums don’t exhibit this problem. However as I mentioned earlier, MQA streams prepared prior to today also do not exhibit this problem. It seems to be a problem with Tidal MQA albums recently streamed.

Hi Arvind,

Yes, that is what I expect. The problem may very well be this :

Lately, Tidal is converting all the existing normal Redbook albums to MQA. This is as fake as it can be, but it is also not formally supported. Thus, this is not MQA of any good quality at all, and you can see it by them being 16/44.1 and not 24/44.1 (or 24/88.2 or 24/96). Because this is not MQA really, XXHighEnd does not know what to do with it properly. I have been working on it already, but it is a bit of a tough problem. PLUS (mind you !) you just don't want these at all**. OK, so what I have been working on, is that you can see that they are fake (but also that they will play anyway).

**): With the notice that the old RedBook has been removed and they the ID of them is still the same (!!!).

If you re-Prepare these and you had the normal Redbook version from earlier, you will lose that version and it will be replaced by the MQA fake sh*t.

I think that at this moment you will be able to recognize them largely by the label telling 44.1. Thus the album in the picture below with be fake MQA by a vary big chance (but you will only know definitely after you have it in the playlist and will see that it is 16 bits).

Hard to check anyway at this moment, because of that result of one album only, at this moment. Sorry for that ...

Are these MQA albums (or tracks) ?

Thank you so much. This works fine.

Hi Arvind,

So what does *not* work fine then ? what did you actually change to let it work ? (you too said you used copy-paste from Tidal)

Thanks,
Peter

Do you still see the 48GB of memory ?
(like the below shows all my 32GB)
171  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: No more 'Straight Contiguous'... all of a sudden on: March 07, 2021, 06:52:03 pm
Mani,

Well, a logical reason would be that there's insufficient memory. Thus, just all together (like only one DIMM of 8GB suddenly at work).

Remember that the Max SFS is determining the allocation. So set that small too (or set it to equal the dynamic setting).

- Maybe it is related to one of the other settings you changed ? (and you told to Save (to the SSD) at rebooting ?

- Maybe your SFS is plainly too high ? (try 20 or so)

- Is this the Mach II or Mach III ?

N.b.: I have no idea whether memory can shut itself off for parts of it (like a HDD can do that), and that thus the contiguous memory really is not available.

You could exchange memory (all of it in one go) between your Mach II and Mach III. It is (about) the same and harmless to SQ when interchanged.

Peter

No support for ASIO in XXHighEnd... sorry
173  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: No more Kernel Streaming playback for my device... on: March 04, 2021, 12:08:28 pm

Hey Gerardo,

That sounds like serious BS.

To me it seems highly unlikely that an OS upgrade would be able to cause this. I am only saying : It would be good if your thinking is not in the direction of the OS having stopped support for 32/768 (702.5). These things won't happen.

It will merely be in the driver area of your 3R DAC, so maybe the driver got uninstalled or something. So the first thing you should do it reinstall that driver (uninstall it first if all seems to be OK in the first place).

Notice that the support for 384 you will see in your Audio Properties, is the maximum output sampling rate Windows supports Natively - generally through WASAPI. So yes, most probably you can use WASAPI (WDM) only. Otherwise what you see in the properties is not KS related at all (KS does not use the settings in there). With this I want to say : don't seek for the 768 number in there. Only seek for where KS went. OK, you *are* doing that of course.

Let me know how you fare.

Best regards,
Peter
174  Ultimate Audio Playback / Orelino / Orelo MKII Loudspeakers / Re: Power cord for Orelo on: March 03, 2021, 09:07:03 am

Arvind, ... well ...

Only last week I promised an other customer that I would start working on a power cable. I wanted to start sorting that out last weekend, but all sorts of things came in between.

What I intend anyway, is creating/"designing" the best possible theory, make x cords of in total xx meters for myself, and then apply them everywhere where it is relevant. I mean, I feel that using them for one component only, would be a too simple test.

If my theory fails, we will have made them all for nothing. But that's life.
N.b.: For the Lush^1 it also required IIRC 5 versions before it worked. But that was only one cable ...

The power cord will be based on the sheer fact that "the last meter" makes all the difference in the world because there too it will be about (self-)radiation. So the first 20m to the wall outlet does not suffer from that. And this will justify the "boutique" power cord.
Took me more than 10 years before I started believing in it, WHILE prior to my Phasure life I simply used boutique cables (made by myself). But this was in another house and with an older system (all different components from what I have now).

FWI, the final test will be working other way around;
I may replace the new power cord of the Audio PC with the stock one and see if that makes a difference. Next, put it back, and do the same with the DAC. ... and there are a few more components ...

Thank you for asking and I hope something will come from this soon !

Thank you, Ramesh.

Hey Stanley,

Well, that is too difficult to follow for me. This is not only caused by a missing word I think.

In my setup I have a separate router to establish a wireless RDC connection between a laptop

My view on the Ethernet cable between Music Server PC and router : It can't matter. I didn't try it either.
But there are more cables by now I never tried because I was quite sure it could not matter ... haha

It is not easy for me to try because of the required length here.

Peter

That is not so bad ...
hahaha

OK, it is. But at least we can make it, if needed.

Hips - oops

Tore, yes, that's right. Btw I never tried that.
But you may recall the BlueTooth PAN (dongle-thing). That was for a similar reason and it worked "lower profile" (read about Nick's interrupts).

179  Ultimate Audio Playback / Cables (Community induced) / Re: ET^3 on: February 27, 2021, 01:49:55 pm

Haha, no problem. But there's quite some talk lately about the influence of Ethernet switches and how they simply can't influence SQ (while they do). So from there spring the "pull the cable", with claims that it can because DACs suppose to have a buffer etc. and blablaba.

I realize that in our situation (XXHighEnd) we can do that for real.
Don't try this at home because at reconnecting you will find a black screen and the Audio PC has to be rebooted.
OK, you could try it one time. Happy

Peter

Put in the ET^3 in the set up & the immediate reaction is significant reduction in the noise level as compared to stock Ethernet cable.

I would rate this as high as the Lush^3 upgrade.

Thank you Arvind. I'm glad it works out !
