376  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / The last XXHighEnd version (2.11) on: April 01, 2020, 12:15:46 pm
Dear People,

Below you'll find the last version of XXHighEnd for download.
As you can see, it is a surprise version from several angles.

All the best and stay safe,
Peter

Edit, April 4, 2020 :

It appears that it is relatively easy for people to make choke a previously  perfectly working XXHighEnd environment. This may be caused by a lack of experience in upgrading, or by not remembering what - and what not to do because it has been a (too) long time ago by now.
Do not upgrade if you don't have a proven working backup, because it is not my idea of spending 100% of my time on helping people who do not have such a backup, or who try to avoid restoring that backup and try to be safe by means of asking questions "what to do next" instead.
People with the RAM-OS environment should have a self-made recent copy of the active "MyW10-xxxx" file  (also see here).

Otherwise, a "backup" as such could comprise of making a copy of your XX folder (set it aside and *never* attempt to start the XXHighEnd.exe in there, nor any other .exe file); Do the same with your XXData file. When things went bad, delete the contents of your XX folder as well as the XXData folder, and copy back the saved versions into their respective folders. Do not, ever, change the names of the folders as how you had them; it will not work.
Try not to outsmart the system by means of :
- paste the full install over a working XX folder (nothing will work although at first glance it looks OK to you);
- undo any wrong pasting by means of pasting-over an older version, including a recent copy (it will be a mess).

So either :

a. Paste (unRar) the UpgradePatch over the existing XX folder (10 secs of work really).
or
b. Create a new folder and Paste (UnRar) the full version in there (pasting the UpgradePatch 2.11 version over that is harmless but also useless (a later 2.11a etc. version will be fruitful)), BUT know that you will most probably lose activation in this (b.) case because you will have forgotten the procedure for that or feel like not complying to it, etc.  smile
With b. do not forget to make a new Desktop Icon, pointing to the new folder.

From b. follows that you should be prepared for the impossibility to save the 2.10 (or older) version in a working fashion next to the new 2.11 version, ditto (unless you maintain a full copy of the OS Disk (which is the same as the RAM OS Disk file I referred to). Even activating 2.11 by explicit means of a new Code, will deactivate the old 2.10 or older.

New rule (kind of) as of today : Because the super simple UpgradePatch procedure exists, it is meant to be used (or else you need to obtain a new Code via PayPal and it can not be not be refunded). But do not apply it over 2.03 and older (won't work).

For the normal means (and possible instruction) see an older Upgrade topic like :
XXHighEnd Model 2.10 - Respecting Selection Sequences & SQ+ with uneven SFS .

After copying / unzipping the install files, just start the XXHighEnd.exe file; no Install as such is needed. See below at the mouse arrow.

However, when you are running Windows 8 or higher - have not used XXHighEnd before - and are not connected to the Internet, first read this : Windows 8 Tutorials - Install .Net 3.5.

We urge you to read this : Windows 10 Tutorials - Wallpaper, Core Schemes, Q4,5 and more.

Please report as much as you run into but do so in a dedicated topic with a catching title.

Right below here you will find the full install of XXHighEnd.
Below that you will find the UpgradePatch install which can only be used on/over the previous XXHighEnd version, but only from of 2.04. Do *not* installl this UpgradePatch on its own in a new folder because nothing will work ! Only paste and unzip over the contents of the existing XX folder where 2.04 up to 2.10 (and beyond) is installed.

For the existing XXHighEnd user, in order to avoid anomalies which are difficult to comprehend, it is best to kill XXEngine3.exe and AutoHotkey.exe (via TaskManager) prior to the install.

If you run into .exe files doing nothing (XXHighEnd.exe ahead), investigate whether the file is "blocked". If you rightclick on it, chose Properties, then in the first tab you will see an "Unblock" button close to the bottom if this is the case. Click that button and all will be fine.

Download links (UnRar and not UnZip) :

XXHighEnd-211a.rar
XXHighEnd-211a-UpgradePatchOver204AndBeyond.rar

Only zip the below over your XX folder AFTER you installed either of the above :

377  Ultimate Audio Playback / Chatter and forum related stuff / Re: Home on: April 01, 2020, 05:33:33 am

For a week by now (yes !) I am playing all I can find from Kruder & Dorfmeister (this page is Dutch, but contains more "discography" than the English page).

The odd thing is that I found these guys only a year ago (call me slow) and at that moment I apparently by accident obtained the more "ambient" like albums from them. And well, I still (also all of the others) store them in my Ambient Gallery, however, I actually don't know where to put the various albums which are all of an actually different genre; this probably is the reason why I can play them for a week by now (not the same albums of course).

For example the one you see pictured below (the last one in the player from last night) I registered under Dance. So there you go Jack, that has to be yours (haha). But as the WikiPedia page tells, it is triphop like, but also hiphop, it is ambient for sure, it is downtempo in its best fashion, drums and bass ditto (especially watch for the drumming breaks !) with stiff and good and interesting electric bass and it is and remains always interesting. It is also the very first (really so) group who can present "remixes" as long as a complete album, all from the same base track, you estimating that the next track will even be more interesting than the one currently playing. The Fuck Dub Remixes from their Tosca reincarnation (see Wiki page) is a best in this. Btw, no explicit lyrics anywhere, although "hip-hop" and this album title suggests it. Just nice Austrian guys.

Mind you, it is thus not the Kruder & Dorfmeister "band" but also Kruder solo, Dorfmeister solo, and each with other band names as well. Just get them all (Tidal) and well, try them all. I guess the Kruder & Dormeister band itself could be the least interesting. Tosca the most. But Richard Dorfmeister vs. Madrid De Los Austrias as how the Wiki page mentions it, the most happy olé Spanish. And fast on the percussion(s) (a good system tester).

Quite common to all of them is an opera-like high-pitched "whooa" which probably and logically is emphasized most on the Opera album from Tosca.

I hope you have fun with it and that it may kill the time a little for those locked down indeed (this includes me too).

Richard, does anything change to this issue when you use  Core Appointment Scheme 1-3 ?

Thanks,

PS: I can't imagine that I didn't look in here for over 10 days, and missed two other posts as well (from Anthony and from Jack). But there always has been some oddness in the Chatter board and the "new" notification not working out. For some people this doesn't come across by standard.

I now got triggered by the other new topic on this board from Colin (from March 19, and that 3-4 days of me not being here seems correct).

Hi Mani,

In this more or less hectic times (for some very hectic) - I have one. But I am sorry to say that it does not work out for me. N.b.: I never liked to say it, but since you ask ...

Oddly, from there I learned how enormously the ET^2 matters. So indeed (Anthony will know I suppose) I tried it in combination with the ET^2 (I never had en ET^2 myself) - I even had a second one (one for input, one for output), but that only emphasized the "baddy" instead of improved it. And then I took out the EtherRegen and ...
And really, a new world opened. Btw, I did not tell that either (seemed fair to me).

Additionally, the EtherRegen has a 100Mbit throughput and for our usage this really annoys (it is too slow at loading albums, relative to the 1000Mbit everybody will have these days for LAN connections).

I did not follow the general consensus on the EtherRegen, but keep in mind that our usage will be different from what others do, because for us it actually can only matter on the "live" connection for RDC. That really is all. But you hear it right through that, and not by a small bit. IOW (also) go figure how just that electrical connection (with its noise signatures ?) works out devastatingly.

HTH,
Peter

Ehh ... wow ?

VJ, I hope you realize that you're working with the first XXHighEnd PC "with fan noise". The Mach II (no fans at all) and Mach III are completely silent.
Besides that, you don't want to know the improvement just because of the PC alone. It is more important than a DAC these days. I am serious ...

Peter

384  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: Setting CPU core count with a twist on: February 13, 2020, 09:02:48 am

Yes, strangely enough I came to the same conclusion. 2 or 4 cores not being active sounds the best;
Our nomenclature may be not the same, but for a 14/28 core, setting it to 10/20 sounds the best.

For others and for now : In the (ever) due 2.11, you can just set this number and reboot. Don't like it ? change the setting and reboot again. That is really all.

I the put the comp in sleep mode and switched it on and the sound was ckackled.

For Windows (good) audio the computer is not allowed to be in sleep mode ever. So please switch off these "sleep" features.
If you want to stop the PC from being active, just shut it down (via XXHighEnd and right-click on Stop is the best way to do it).

N.b.: The hard error is a Windows 10 thing in MinOS. This is nothing to worry about, assumed it happens to you at shutting down or rebooting the PC.

Peter

Dear Shreekant,

Off line (PM) I sent you the Activation Code for XXHighEnd.

To me it looks that the only problem you seem to be having is that the DC Offset meters have a loose connection. Therefore you can't see the DC Offset and this in itself implies that you can not set the DC Offset properly.

The result of the above is indeed a channel not playing or playing scratched;
there is nothing to worry because all it requires is connect the wires properly. For now I assume this can be done easily :

Take off the cover and you will see the meters in the left leg. You will automatically find the two pair of wires which go from the meters to elsewhere. You will also see that each wire connects via a small connector to remaining wire, disappearing somewhere. Now, one of these connectors will be half-loose. Best could be to disconnect and reconnect each one.

Btw, you can use the Reply link to add posts to this topic. See little screenshot below. It's in the bottom-right corner.
Kind regards,
Peter

Are the numbers in your pick list screen shot above the number of physical cpu cores being set in your XX code or the number of hyperthreaded cores ?

Also you mentioned in your post above that the software just does not support some CPU numbers. Is this also the case in version 2.10c.

Nick, disregarding your last post for now (I still must wrap my head around what you exactly do), the numbers I show are usable cores, thus Hyperthreaded if set to that (which in my example / case is so (Hyperthreaded On).

The numbers with the Asterisks could be set in the BIOS, but are NOT respected by XXHighEnd, and thus should *not* be set.
N.b.: The due 2.11 will not allow to select the not-recognized numbers (see again the Asterisks).

Best regards,
Peter

So Nick,

Ready for this ?

This is undoubtedly the same, although I must check your procedure in detail to confirm it. Is in due 2.11 for more than a year now.
I seem to have trouble with finishing off 2.11. unhappy

The ones denoted with * are not really available software wise (XXHighEnd) - also see more below.

My procedure seems to be the other way around, but I think comes net down to the same; set to max in the BIOS and now software-wise shrink the number. As you can see I have a 28, set to 20.
Ultimately I could set the BIOS to e.g. 22, and have an other sound with software setting to 20.

Notice : you can only choose from the ones yo see in the list, because the software does not support other settings. E.g. 22 is not support to really utilize in the software. If you'd attempt that anyway, things may go bananas (like more threads (or less) are being dedicated to the available cores.

Hey, thanks for sharing !
If your procedure appears to be an other one, I suppose I can build that in too. We are used to all the existing parameters by now, right ? haha - We can really use more combinations.

Peter
