706  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: XX 2.10 Volume on: September 29, 2018, 05:57:40 am
Hey there Tore,

Yes, some times this happens - I know. I few versions back I even described it in the releas notes as something which is hard to solve. This is since the "fast volume change" was introduced, thus already quite a while back by now.

It depends on "something" you/we did before maybe even related to the fresh restarting of the sound engine (XXEngine3), like after a reboot.

It may also be related to how "decently" you select the current track. I mean, you can see that when more than one (Volume Normalized) album is in the Playlist Area and Volume Normalization is On, some times you see the Volume (left hand pane) change when you again click the track which was already selected. I think that situation would have gone wrong like you describe, when you had not clicked that track again. It (kind of ?) would have used the Volume you see (at virtual first), while once it plays and you change the Volume, it related to that internal setting you can't see and then it jumps relative to that internal setting.

I always have the feeling that this can happen once per day only, and then in the first album I play ...

wacko

Peter

Hey Keith,

Thank you very much for this kind message. It once again tells me what we are doing this all for.

And yes, by the time you flew over the ocean, lets have that beer together.

Best regards from here,
Peter

Hi Arvind,

I encourage you to read this :

Btw, do you think I changed something ? I don't think so. Happy

A: B-W-Y-R, B: B-W-R

Maybe I was in a hallucinative mood yesterday, but I can't imagine that it can be better than this. Sound it out-ra-ge-ous-ly good.
OK, what is "good" ... maybe I deceive myself ...

The best I could describe it, is that it is about the experience. This is how "hallucinative" comes in. It feels like I put up some musicians in the room, they see my mood (like a DJ does that) and start playing for me the exact way I want it.
All right, this can't be described. It must be felt. Experienced.

Especilly the bass is like never before. It has a power ... unheard. And the strange thing : still of the best quality. Very articulate. More strange : no disco like bass. I mean, something which isn't supposed to sound like disco, should not suddenly be disco (I made such a remark on one of the other configurations).

In the midst of all this power is the somehow excelling highs. Nothing muffled because of too much bass. All superbly expressing. Possibly this is because those "lower highs" (upper mid) seems to be less profound with this config. It creates a more black distance to the highs, as it seems.

The most noticable is the palpability this now shows. As if each hit - no matter how transient and subsequently fast - received the room to add large envelope and decay.

Actually it is a bit crazy (again that word, I see innocent); we'd say that even the largest DSP would not be able to change the sound like this does now. What ever happened to PeterSt's "the USB cable won't matter much, if anything". Yeah, those good old days of the $1 cable.
Today we toy with shields. Say again ? yea, shields. Kirk is dead but USS Enterprise's shielding start to be under our control. The Trek continues.

Hi all,

I am contemplating not to post here any more, because I seem to be the only one sharing.

Good idea ?

Peter

Arvind, now I read your last post, I get a Ground Hog Day sensation.
Something like this already passed this forum. I think it was you and I think it was about FLAC vs WAV.

Could it be the same culprit ?

Hi Arvind,

I think this is a problem of onlu one Item showing in there - and it is not related to Tidal. Can you verify that please ?

Kind regards,
Peter

All,

Everybody who was in last Friday's (Sept 14) shipment, received a config where the A and B connectors were swapped against what was promised on the withgoing paper (which latter also lacked in one (?) occcasion). The config was meant to be like what you see below. Please adjust accordingly because what was delivered was untested and has unknown result.

Apologies for the inconvenience !

Still normal behaviour?

Maybe not. But I estimate the NOS1a/G3 of concern not to be the issue. I said estmate. Happy

First thing to try is to unplug the USB cable, try to have the DC Offset right (it can be dine but can be difficult) and look again. Still the same ?

Then I hope it is not too difficult to put your othet NOS1a/G3 in that place. No need to try without USB connection.

If this remains unconclusive, I have a few more cards to play ... (could be false trumps)

Peter
716  Ultimate Audio Playback / Phasure NOS1 DAC / Re: DC offset issue? on: September 17, 2018, 08:46:07 pm
Mani,

All is perfectly normal. Generally, though, the DC Offset is a bit higher with most of the /G3's. This is inherent to the chips used for it. So it is in the specs and it is accepted.

Peter

PS: I think the variability is constant indeed, and if not it isn't automatically changing each second. But don't confuse that with music playing because the lower the (sub)low, the more it changes on the melody of the bass. This is DC just the same, though varying per LF wave cycle (I am sure you understand).

You can just delete them on the AudioPC.

Correct. But you *have* to delete them, or else all kind of things go wrong.

Thank you Stanley,

Colin,

Hmm ... that would be a filter anomaly. Not that I am going to solve that instantly, but with which filter does that happen ?
If you don't know for sure any more I rather learn that. Happy

Regards and thanks,
Peter
