Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Minimus Mode and USB detection
|

I keep my music backed up on an external USB Passport drive. On another PC, I rip to the backup drive first, so that I know I always have a backup. This means that after I rip, I walk the external drive over to the audio PC, plug it into the a USB port and copy the files onto the internal drive of the audio PC and now I'm ready to play them.
My question is, if I am in Minimize OS mode and I plug in my external USB drive, will the PC enumerate (see) the external USB drive so that I can copy the files over?

One more: - Alt-G does not toggle or affect the OSD for time, in unattended mode or attended mode.
This is true regardless of the initial state of the settings for this OSD button. In attended mode, besides no toggle, I get a pop up window that is unrelated to OSD display. Yes, my xx.ahk file shows !G for time OSD. No, I have not altered my xx.ahk file otherwise.

Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: For z8 only --> intermediate tracks do not finish playing

So far, selections made with shift-click (consecutive) appear to work, except that in once instance, only the first one of the three played and then it stopped and went to attended mode. Ctrl-click still encounters problems.
Last night I selected three non-consecutive tracks wtih Ctrl-click, and they all played. But then I selected three others from a differnent album and the last one of the three did not play.
These examples are a little different than skipping part-way into a track, but they still falls under "strange behaviour" related to using Cltr-click from within the playlist.
Hopefully this gives us a clue.

Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / For z8 only --> intermediate tracks do not finish playing

[0.9z-6.1c and Vista 32 Ultimate, 4GB RAM] From within track view, e.g., after selecting an album in library view and then closing library view, when Cltr-click is used to select individual tracks, sometimes, not always, and never with the first track, intermediate tracks do not finish playing. Instead, playback continues with the next song. And also sometimes intermediate songs are skipped or played in the wrong order. I didn't report this before because it happened when I was playing with Start playing during conversion checked and when that's checked all of xxHE becomes whacky while attempting larger SFS settings. But I report it now because I now see it occasionally even after unchecking Start playing during conversion. I first noticed this problem after two or three songs had played and I then hit Alt-n at 50 seconds into the third song to skip to the fourth song. What happened is that the fourth song played unitl 50 seconds and then skipped to the fifth song, which then played for 50 seconds and then skipped to the sixth song, etc. But yesterday, even without hitting any Alt-n (not ever since a reboot), and with unchecked Start playing during conversion, xxHE skipped in the middle of one song and went to the next song. That's when I decided to create the For z8 only list, because I'd forget to report it if I wait for z7. I still prefer to hold off on this issue until after z7. (only reporting in detail because Peter requested)

[With Vista 32 Ultimate, 4GB Ram, Pentium Dual Core, and XXHE 0.9z-6-1c] There are a few minor things that you might want to know about that I've been holding back because I don't want to delay z7. So these are for z8: - Alt-v does NOT go to previous track in Unattended mode
- The red indicators on buttons are not visible on a TV. Make the red area larger or use a brighter version of red. Maybe switch to yellow for on, and black for off.
- I loose Wifi after I close xxHE when using close all other services (Okay otherwise). Not only I loose Wifi, but Vista can't find any connections at all. Of course, this is with Keep Lan Services checked.
- There is no xx.log file to see the names of processes to keep.
- last digit of dd:dd for OSD time display is unreadable in Unattended mode.
- In Unattended mode when progress bar is chosen for OSD time display it's all whacky and unrealiable.
- When Ctrl-click is used to select individual tracks in track view, sometimes intermediate tracks do not finish playing (playback skips to next track).
- When "start playback during conversion" is checked, many things go wrong (too many to mention, the entire system becomes unreliable).
Apologies if some of these are not new.

Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Alt-k does not persist unattended mode

That makes sense and I am happy to readjust (or you could add a persist button eventually... kind of like a Caps Lock ) JRiver persists BTW. Anyway, Relating to #2 above, I am affraid that tonight I may have to report a bug. I will reconfirm that #2 does not work that way from within unattended mode. In other words, I'm 92.5% sure that it just keeps on playing through past the end of the current song if I hit Alt-k while in unattended. At the very least, it malfunctioned the first time I tried it and I just figured that worked that way and that Alt-k had to be enabled before hitting play.

Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Alt-k does not persist unattended mode

Is this a feature or a bug?
When xx returns from unattended mode, Alt-k reverts to unchecked / disabled. However, I'd like this setting to persist.
To recreate my steps do the following: check / enable stop play at end of track, either by using the mouse or by entering Alt-k, before clicking play from the main interface while in attended mode; then hit play. After a few seconds of play, click Alt-s, or Alt-x. (I believe you can also wait for the music to stop playing, 99% sure.) When xx returns, notice the state of the stop playback button. Is it enabled or disabled?
version is 0.9z-6-1c

Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Please help with new install

Hi Peter
As you may have noticed, last night I purchased an activation key with "Undemo" to support this effort.
It turns out that I am purchasing a spinning disk and moving all my music for local hard drive playback. i.e., I will be moving away from network playback.
As such, I have no urgency for AIFF network playback. AFAIK you may release z-7 without AIFF network playback.
However, my new urgency is for .dsf (DSD) playback by converting .dsf to PCM on the fly for a PCM DAC (almost all DACs in existance). [i.e., not bit stuffing DSD into a fake PCM stream for a true DSD DAC] JRiver 17 supports this* and I am married to JRiver until XXHE supports .dsf.
I realize this won't be for z-7. But otherwise, soon after?
*JRiver converts 1 bit 2.8MHz DSD to a lossless 64-bit / 384KHz PCM and then dithers down to 176.4/24 or 88.2/24 for PCM DAC playback.
