I would say MP3 lose details, especially in the highs. They sound more dull than an original cd or flac. They do not sound bad, if they are made well. Just not as good as the original.

Well then Peter must be able to put the sparkle back in!

Wow, that's a nice new topic!
I listen to MP3's a lot because sometimes it's all I have, but don't really know what the signature of MP3 is.
A lot of times I think with music from movies, why is this not happening with CD?
So what is this thing making them better?
Is it the focussing on important details and skipping on the low-information part like Philips talked about in their DCC-days?

Well anyway XXHE does a very good job on MP3's!

Tubes?

Hi Paul,
I think the bass is 2 times 4 times  1 mm  and mid/high double times about half size but I'll check this if I can find it again.
At the moment listening to James Blake a couple of times with the new trick , load and reboot.
Bass floating around the room in circles, voice sounds heavenly.
Why listen to the moody blues!?

That's very good news.
But how come nobody noticed?

Loaded the next album 'Night Ride Home' and was unlistenable compared to the sound before.
After a reboot the magic was back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just wrote some other message and thought about telling XX sounds wonderfull today.
Then I realised I played the same songs I left in the playing area from last time.
Joni Mitchell, Perfect Indigo.
Yesterday it sounded very dead and disappointing, today marvelous!
Maybe this is what you mean and then we will have to play what we left the day before every day for a starter?
See if the next album will still be ok...

It is cable used to make trafo's and coils, lackered wire.
Twisted to get low capacitance and inductance.
The number of wires and the radius has some influence on the sound so I made a mix that sounded neutral.
I think it is the same idea as your's Scroobius, but electrically and estetically more correct.

BTW. The double coax I use now for the 220V from wallplug to stereo.
Not reversed but both neutral and life inside and the screen connected to the central city heating.
Wires close to it don't pick up the hum and the amps don't get RFI from the mains.
Of course sounds very good as always with DIY. Wink
Could also be a good method for the earth wire as a third coax, should have very low resistance at high frequencies.

Very nice to see some diy-ers around here!
Some 25 years ago I tried the double reverse connected coax with RG213, very tick and strong.
A german magazine advized the RG214 but that was not sold anywhere in Holland AFAIK.
It did not sound convincing so tried a lot after.
Now I use this:

Hi Peter,

I am very happy with the tracklist you put in the wallpaper.
There are only some quirks that would be nice if you could solve them or give advise how we should name our files.

One thing is a trackname with a dot in it is not shown, but with two dots it is.
Like '01. Amy McDonald - This is the Live' is not, '08. Amy McDonald - L.A.' is.
But '08 Amy McDonald - L.A.' shows like '08 Amy McDonald - L.A'

Another thing is when I select only one track from a directory with more tracks all those tracks are shown in the tracklist.

The information on top and bottom is correct.

And a general question: When an album is for one artist the name of the artist is only needed once.
For various artists the name of the artist is very handy.
Don't know if there is already a solution for this and we should take care of this ourselves?

Oh, and sometimes a trackname is not selected but skipped to the next after it has finished.
Like when track 5 is playing you still see 4 and at 6 you see 6.

Well, I guess all the better for me. I've been playing around a little so that must have helped to get a better sound. Happy

Peter, did you change something for SQ in Z5-2?
I don't remember Amy McDonald sounded so spacious before.
But maybe it's just me imagining things! unsure

I will need a better ADC since I hear still a difference between my vinyl and the digital copy I don't like.

Well the gap got much smaller.
One thing is not to normalize to - 3dB like I did, but amplify with 6 or 12 dB. (Can be done in Adobe Audition, not in DC8 like I used the first time).
The other maybe more important is that the buffersize in special mode could be set much lower and this is really impressive.
Before I had problems with the lower settings, maybe it's the quality of the recording that gives lesser buffer overflows and glitches?

Now I can happily listen to my rips all day!

When everybody takes there DVM's out, then another small trick is to test the best way to put your plugs in.
Remove all connections from other equipment, measure voltage between safety-earth and mass of one pice of equipemt, turn the wallplug around and measure again. (AC and DC)
The lowest measured value is the best, do this for all pieces of your equipent and put a small piece of red tape on the correct side of the connectors and the wallplugs.

PS, But why Peter is your voltage so low? That does not sound like an earthing problem...
135  Ultimate Audio Playback / Interesting Music / Testmaterial / Re: Analogue source still better? on: May 19, 2011, 11:51:41 am
Ok, then I'll need an DXD-ADC!
XXHE will be able to play DXD?

BTW, when playing vinyl on a lot of records I hear the noisefloor going up when a track starts.
On CD this doesn't happen so I guess they did a denoise to prevent complaints/make it look better.
With the noise the small details have disappeared too.

Maybe in the future they do rereleases of the original mastertapes in a better quality or is this a naive thought?
Since Cat Stevens is visiting our country soon I had to play his records and No we can not miss the old music!
