271  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: High Frequency Sound while playing (9y-4) on: January 08, 2010, 04:29:57 pm
Well, I can't say much more about it, maybe it can be reproduced by selecting songs from an external disc, playing them, turn of XX, turn of the external disk, start XX and play from the playlist...
272  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: High Frequency Sound while playing (9y-4) on: January 08, 2010, 01:31:03 pm
I think I had this problem when I went back to Vista, which was installed before on another disk including XXHE.
I started XXHE and there was still some songs in the playlist from before. At start of the music I got a loud 'static' or rattling(?) sound.
XXHE gave a message the songs could not be found. With a good selection everything was normal again.
This is with a DAC that has automatic samplerate changing.

Who wants that ?

Well, people with thousands of lp's and don't have the time to first rip them all to harddisk.
And people who use the same setup for the sound from tv/dvd (through pc).
This way the pc/dac would be the sourceswitchcenter and everything goes through the DAC/XO to (IMC) 4 poweramps.
But don't let this change your plans for now, a lot of people are waiting for version1.

Aha,
that's very interesting, the dac will standardly work as a Crossover?
Then I will have to buy one too, my passive crossover between pre and poweramp makes the preamp necessary, but now...
Will there be an ADC somewhere to play analog realtime through XXHE? drool
275  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Windows7 ? hmm ... maybe not ! on: December 30, 2009, 01:42:31 pm
Arghh, Seeing is believing, connected my Vista-laptop to the DAC and ooh..
Back (?) is a fullblooded sound that even surprised the little kids.
I tried the latest from Anouk which I almost had deleted for bad sound quality and
now it sounds incredible!

So how do I put Vista back from D: to C: after removing Win7 from C: ?
And what's the best way to use SSD on Vista?

So why everybody hears improvements but nobody hears things getting worse?

BTW I started to like the interface of 7 but had problems with videodrivers, satellite-tv and even the input of the phase 24FW was recognized as output.

Thanks Peter for getting us back to the right track!

Very Interesting

but anyway CommonMode noise can be blocked with Transformer isolation CMRR, and ETS Lan transformers sounds great to my ears, becouse it does not degrade the AES/EBU signal, & has higher bandwith.

I put a Lundahl 1572 isolation transformer between PC and DAC and have very positive results.
The sound is more enjoyable, more analog like. Cristalclean highs, sweet mids and very natural bass.
So yes there is a lot of RFI-noise coming out of the PC by SPDIF.
This solution costs only 20 euro and a cap of 30 cents and a piece of wire...

And the rest will be jitter which will have to be cured by the italian reclocker talked about here before.

(Nice Christmas and happy newyear to everybody!)Party Party Party
277  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Mono button? on: December 12, 2009, 09:20:20 pm
Great idea!

I just started to listen to my parents tapes from 46 years ago (When I was a baby).
Recorded on left and right channel independently so a mono button that can also choose between left and right would be very handy after I record the tapes to the PC.

Does this mean the Hiface usb to SPDIF converter will work with engine #4??? Happy (Kernel streaming or direct sound)

Leif,

I´m gonna try this:
http://www.m2tech.biz/products.html
might strip it and take I2S out to the Buffalo input

Did you try it already with XXHE?

At their website I get the impression it only works with direct sound and kernel streaming.
Not with Wasapi yet. Is this true for you?

Email from m2tech says they are working on a wasapi-like interface for W7 64 bits....
280  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your questions about the PC -> DAC route / Re: Goodby USB, Hello SPDIF on: November 14, 2009, 11:32:20 pm
And where does the USB come from? From Mars?
I still enjoy my spdif motherboard output very much even if some say it's cr*p...
But I'm willing to try a PCI-e solution if I can find it!
281  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your questions about the PC -> DAC route / Re: PCI soundcards on: November 12, 2009, 11:22:20 pm
Yes I think that is what I meant...
Of course there are three PCI-slots, but the Graphicscard occupies two, but uses one and the other one is in use by a sattelitecard.
So if I have to choose who goes out...
Maybe somebody knows a silent graphicscard that only needs the space of one slot?
There exist some pci-e audiocards but they don't do 192 let alone 172.
I would expect some progress here but only Peter is helping us to get better sound!

Audiotrak or Onkyo.
Both are PCI, I only have a PCI-e slot avalaible in my HT-PC.

Hi Telstar,
that's a nice thingy, PCI-e to PCI, that's what I need too.
Will be nice in the future for a lot of people when they buy a new motherboard.
But on the same site there is a PCI-e to 4PCI adaptor-box for  199 euro!

BTW, I'm looking for a PCI-e soundcard with good SPDIF too, but I only want it if it supports 88 and 172kHz.
So I guess the ASUS is out of the Question for me.

And when Peter's Dac comes out, we can throw away our new soundcards??
284  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Timer still there or not on: November 04, 2009, 01:53:53 pm
The same here, at start and stop for a second it's visible.
I was thinking it is Windows 7 doing this to us.
(Specially because I have more trouble with Videodrivers not working as well as in Vista)

Haha, I'm behind the new developments, all my PCI-cards are PC-cards.
I'll try to put them outside the box too! Just soldering some wires from the card to the connector will do it?
