151  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: 0.9y-4 Bug in showing folder in Library area on: March 29, 2010, 11:28:52 pm
Hello Peter,
sorry to remind you - in my experience this one is still open.
Cheers,
Eric.
152  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: XXHighEnd Model 0.9y-6 on: February 24, 2010, 11:19:22 pm
For the record:
I can't get any better than Q1=22 (587) with Buffer Size =768 playing QAP Double.
My interface is Firewire to Fireface400 followed by SP/DIF to TwinDAC+ (battery powered).
The sound however is absolutely marvelous, using Double only because my DAC doesn't accept Quad.

Cheers,
Eric.

Peter,
re. Engine#4.
Although all tracks are now being played, the transition between the tracks is audible like a short and little plop sound. It is very subtile, but it is there. I am talking only about albums where there is no space between the tracks, e.g. live concerts or classical albums.

With Engine#3 this doesn't happen, the transition between tracks is smooth.

I am sure you will be able to determine what causes it and fix it.
Cheers,
Eric.
154  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: 0.9y-5-05 on: February 10, 2010, 06:50:41 pm
Okay.
By the way, I just played a bit with the FireFace400 buffersize.
Setting it to the max of 1024 samples, I could go as low as Q1=3 (and a YES). Lower than that, distortion occurs.
Cheers,
Eric.
155  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: 0.9y-5-05 on: February 10, 2010, 06:25:27 pm
Hello Peter,
I followed your instructions. All tracks play without a problem.

In my case, when Q1= 6, I am getting a YES and normal sound. But if I go 1 step lower to Q1=5, the YES is gone and the sound gets very much distorted.
What is the point you are trying to make here?

Cheers,
Eric.
156  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: y-503 channel issue on: February 01, 2010, 05:54:14 pm
Peter,
I play Double (my TwinDAc+ does not acceot quad unhappy) , ArcPrediction, Splitfile=150.
It happened on the different tracks and CD's I played, but keep in mind that the first time I ran engine#4 was yesterday, so my testing is rather limited. I thought it would be wise to inform you right away instead of doing more testing. I did test the settings of the parameters Allow Format Change, Start Engine3 During Conversion, Stop Services. However, these seem to mhave no effect on the result.
Example:
Play the CD: Elvis Costello - The Juliet Letters. The size of the intro track01 called "Deliver Us" equals 8.53 MB.

BTW: SQ is more than superb for both Engines with slight differences in soundstage and texture. Congratulations again!

Note: (you didn't hear that eh ? haha). Actually, I did hear it because it reverses L/R  Wink

Cheers, Eric.
157  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: y-503 channel issue on: February 01, 2010, 12:35:38 pm
Hello Peter,
I can confirm the findings in this post from Fidelio. I found that the behaviour is not random, but very specific and easily repeatable. Thes are my findings.

In 0.9y-5-03 using Engine#4, the following problem occurs in both unattended and attended. The behaviour is consistent and can be repeated with any selection of tracks (OS is W7-x64 Ultimate).

When starting to play a (selection of) a playlist, the 1st track plays the Left/Right channels as it should. But from the 2nd track on until the last track, L/R is being played as R/L (reversed channels). To prove that my ears didn't fool me (do I really need to?). I confirmed this by playing L/R tracks from a test CD and checking Fireface Mixer meters.

Note: 0.9y-5-03 Engine#3 is behaving normal w.r.t. channels.

Cheers,
Eric.
158  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: 9y-5.03: XXEngine3.exe won't stop on: January 28, 2010, 02:30:16 am

Yesterday afternoon I was testing something for KS, and I managed to get XXEngine3 into a loop or whatever happened (but cpu showed a constant 50%). And ... I couldn't kill it.
Peter

Hello Peter,
I have been out of town for a while and now I am back and see that you released 9y-5. Congratulations! Unfortunately I could not find the time yet to test it, but reading this post triggered me to report a strange behaviour in 9y-4 that looks a bit like above.
When I go to Library Area, rightclick any album, Play each (random and semirandom functions), Randomly, Go (autoselect),
then XXHE hangs (the processor seems to be in a loop). However, I am able to kill it using the Taskmanager (no reboot needed). Still, this (repeatable) behaviour is very strange. So I thought you might want to know this.
My OS is W7-x64, virtually tweeked to death (Possibly to much tweeking??? - I did not test it under W7 Untweeked).
Note that this never happened when I was running the same under Vista.

Is this unique for my environment or do others experience the same?
Since I don't have 9y-5 up and running yet, I cannot say what happens when I do.

Cheers,
Eric.

159  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: VST plugin support for CONEQ technology on: January 06, 2010, 03:09:17 pm
I guess my real question is:
with the new DAC, would I still need the FireFace400 for the PC connection?
160  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: VST plugin support for CONEQ technology on: January 06, 2010, 11:27:33 am
Peter,
will the DAC have balanced output terminals?
And how will the DAC be connected to the PC on the input side?

Cheers,
Eric
161  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Windows7 ? hmm ... maybe not ! on: December 31, 2009, 03:50:38 pm
Hi Peter,
yes I see the taskmanager stalling for a few moments - followed by a 100% Processor Usage spike. Also look at the Latency Checker - same spike behaviour when a new track is being loaded. However, the music keeps playing without any interrupt!
I understand why you are angry (maybe a little frustrated too?). This is usually not the best state to be in when you have to take decisions. Tonight is a perfect moment to take a brake and handle the new challenges in 2010, like you did before.
Thanks for all you have done for us "in the field" and Happy New Year! Good job !

Cheers, Eric.
162  Ultimate Audio Playback / Playback Tweaks and Source related subjects / Re: my core Windows tweaks on: December 20, 2009, 11:07:20 am
I am also on W7 and I can confirm that there is no problem (similar picture). I do have nVidia driver active, however it looks like W7 can handle it easy. I did switch to Standard VGA but this does not yield any significant improvement in Latency. So I switched back to my full HD resolution mode and I like it a lot!
Cheers, Eric.
163  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / 0.9y-4 bug when Move to Gallery on: December 05, 2009, 01:04:38 pm
Peter,
as you are keeping track of bugs and you want to decide when to fix them, I have another one for you.
I am in the Library Area and I selected 1 folder in the result list in order Move it to the Gallery. When this action is completed, the artwork is not shown anymore. This only happens when there is only 1 album in 1 folder, i.e  when I have only 1 album from a specific artist. So we have the folder Artistname containing the folder Albumname, and this Albumname is the only /folderalbum in the resultlist. I hope you can recreate this behaviour.
Cheers,
Eric.

As probably many of you have, my musical interest is rather broad.  How to make a selection to survive for 6 months?? It seems to be an impossible task. For sure, all the artists/composers mentioned before deserve that honour.
My choice would be J.S.Bach. In this case, it is both the quality as well as the quantity of his works that influence my decision. I don't think this needs further explanation.
Cheers,
Eric
165  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Playback functionality improvement on: November 16, 2009, 10:53:56 pm
Peter,
sometimes I load an album from the Library area while I forgot to remove the previous one played from the Playlist area. Adding to Jarek's suggestion, would it be possible to create a checkbox in the Playlist area. When ticked, the Playlist area will be cleared after the the last track has been played? This would still give you the possibility to create a checkbox in the Library area like "load and play". What do you think? Something for Release 1.01?? Wink
Cheers,
Eric
