166  Ultimate Audio Playback / Phasure NOS1 DAC / Re: NOS1 Upgrade contains ... on: May 11, 2014, 07:15:06 pm
Hi Peter,

What will be the situation for new NOS1 orders?
Price and availability?

Regards, Arjan

Hi Peter,

Wow, this sounds great. XXHighend having no effect on SQ anymore also means that we just can use a 'normal' pc. The only requirement is that it has enough CPU and memory power to do the job?
No special psu needed for the pc? No minimised OS?

And offcourse I need to order the upgraded NOS1!

Hi,
I made a combination of a new Silverstone card and ppa card. I replaced the Silverstone clock with the ppa clock.
No final conclusion, but as I hoped the SQ is somewere in the middle of the modified ppa and Silverstone.
The Silverstone freshness, but less Sssses. But all parts are brand new, still need some time to settle.

Remark: with loom and linear psu.

Hi Peter,
Your new found settings are really good. Now W7 has similar 3D sq as I get from W8, without the negatieve highs of W8.

Lowest SFS for me is 0.6!

Hi boleary,
The differences as you describes between 9z and 1.186 seems to be similar to the differences between W7 and W8 with 1.186.

So 1.186 on W7 will sound more like 9z on W8. But which will have better SQ I do not know.....

171  Ultimate Audio Playback / Playback Tweaks and Source related subjects / Re: Further Isolation of the Silverstone PCIe - USB Card on: February 02, 2014, 07:14:27 pm
Hi Anthony,
I use a separate lps for the 3.3v and the 5v goes via picoPsu powered pc by another lps. So everything on linear power.
I do not have more pops then before, only my doorbell is (and was).
But plugging in another usb on the same card stops the music. So it is more tricky now. But it works fine!

You should try W7! W7 is more relaxing were W8 is more realism with some too agressive highs. But maybe better for another thread about W7 and W8.

Hi Anthony,
Thanks for the loom description. I have the loom running now, but I prefer it with the (modified) Paul Pang card. Because with that card I like the (less) highs more and ALL details are there!
I have a second Silverstone and PP (in order) and will make a combination of the two.... See what that will bring.
And W7 is also really nice to hear again.....

173  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd PC / Re: Investigating a full linear PSU for the XXHE PC and NOS1 on: January 20, 2014, 09:18:41 am
Hi Anthony,
About the SQ: overall more rest. We were able to play the music louder then before.
The soundstage is deeper! And more details can be heard.
The notes seems to be longer, and the voices are really nice. The SQ is really a step forward.

Before I used the same bequiet atx psu as used in the xxhighend pc.

I also switched (later on) from the Paul Pang usb to the Silverstone (isolated) usb. I do not have issues with Ssss's. They are there but really depending on the recordings and voice. Maybe later I will make the changes to the Paul Pang and try that card again. but for now I like the Silverstone.

I am also thinking about buying the Paul Pang picopsu, to see the improvement on a standard picopsu.

regards,
Arjan
174  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd PC / Re: Investigating a full linear PSU for the XXHE PC and NOS1 on: January 19, 2014, 06:48:52 pm
Hi Peter,
I do not know. It sounds easy, but I changes the cooling fans to less noisy ones and made them adjustable.
Also the power supply is heavy and in a closed cabinet gives some issues with heat. And two times the computer restarted without a reason. So stability seems less than with a normal atx supply. Is it the picoPsu?
I think this is not a final solution. But now I know what a good linear supply can do.
The power supply does never go above 6A (12V) so that seems to be far below the limits of the picoPsu. (160 xt with 200watt peak)
I will use this setup the coming weeks and see how it proceed.

Hi,
I have my computer running on a picoPsu with a linear supply. And the sound is fantastic!
I use 2 small linear supplies for the external harddrive and fans in the computer. (5v and 12v).
And 1 large supply for motherboard, processor, Graphical card and usb card. (12v) This supply is a qj3020s.

Hi,
I do not use the NOS1. But I get really good results with:
Q1 = 30 Q1factor = x1, rest of Q's on 1, with SFS = 480, Engine #4 Special and scheme 3-4.

Remark: with Special a Q1xfactor above 30 results in stuttering sound.

177  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Music stops after one or two tracks in XX-1.186-a (W8) on: January 04, 2014, 11:01:37 pm
Hi,
Just as info. I had same issues, live recordings are even worse. I had to higher the SFS to 1.2 and q1 to 8.

With this SFS and q1 on 6 I get a lot of stuttering. With the clock resolution on 15ms I get slow motion stuttering, weird sound.

Hi Peter,
With 1.186 this issue is solved! No tick anymore. I just want you to know.

Hi,
First happy new year. And yes it is starting Great with 1.186. How on earth is it possible, you did it again Peter.
A really clear relaxing sound I get from my system. That is the first thing we hear it is the freshness of the sq! We like it very much.
Thanks!

Hi,
I am still thinking of a test with a picoPsu and linear psu on my pc.
Searching the web I saw this product: 4M-ATX-HV. This is used to power computers on cars and boats. Might be interesting.
