106  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: network discovery switches off in MinOS on: April 06, 2018, 06:58:24 pm
Now I don't know exactly how Roon connects to HQP. I am just wondering if the same trick can be used on PC with Roon (leaving gateway blank) to see if it will connect to HQP in minOS. Maybe try to specify local IP number instead of network ID in Roon to identify HQP.

Hi Zheng, remember, Roon and HQP were working perfectly before I attempted the 2.10 upgrade.

I'm pretty certain the issue is that network discovery gets switched off in MinOS now, and I can't find a way to switch it on again that actually remains (it keeps reverting back to "off").

There are other issues when I go into 2.10 MinOS (see next post) that suggest to me that something went quite wrong when I unzipped the 2.10 patch over 2.09, whilst remaining in 2.09 MinOS, and also not ensuring that Engine3 and Hotkeys were inactive (as the release notes warn).

A lesson for me!

But I'll get it sorted, even if it means I have to start with a fresh 14393  again.

I can try adding these to 'Keep this service' in XX and see what happens...

Nope, didn't work.

Think I'll give up for today, and just stay in Normal OS for now.

I've just had a look and I don't think it is the same issue.

To be clear:
- XX works perfectly in Normal and MinOS
- HQP works perfectly in Normal and MinOS
- Roon->HQP works perfectly in Normal OS, but not in MinOS, because network discovery gets switched "off" and Roon can no longer see HQP

It's strange - network discovery has always worked OK in the past here in my office system. And it still works fine in my main system (haven't upgraded to 2.10 there yet!).

A couple of other strange things going on that I thought I'd share:

- in Normal OS, the sound device doesn't doesn't show (it sometimes comes up after a reboot, but sometimes doesn't)
- when I right-click on 'stop' to reboot (or whatever), I get a strange message (after clicking OK, I can click reboot (or whatever) and it works fine)

Will play around with a few things and report back.

Edit: right-clicking on sound device shows the NOS1, but not the 'advanced tab'

I need to keep 'network discovery' on in order to use Roon/HQPlayer in my office system. As soon as I switch to MinOS, I lose network discovery. I try to switch it back on (still in MinOS), but the "on" doesn't stick and just reverts back to "off", even after I click "save change".

Just doing a quick Google, it seems the following services need to stay on for network discovery:
- DNS Client
- SSDP Discovery
- UPnP Device Host
- Function Discovery Resource Publication
- TCP/IP NetBIOS Helper

I can try adding these to 'Keep this service' in XX and see what happens, but thought I'd post this first.

I've never had to do any of this stuff in the past to get Roon/HQP working, and just wondered if MinOS is now killing more network services than it used to?

UnLOCKing.

Haha... You mean unblocking.

Yep, that's done the trick. All good now.

THANKS!

By clicking the XXEngine3 button? It's showing that XXEngine3 is not running (see below), and I'm sure it was like this when I unzipped the patch first time (although I can't swear by it).

I certainly clicked it and checked in Task Manager before unzipping the patch again.

I tried unzipping the patch again, having checked in Task Manager that both XXEngine3.exe and AutoHotkey.exe were inactive beforehand. The issue remains.

It seems XXEngine3.exe is indeed locked now.

Can I simply delete it, and then re-paste it from the full download? Otherwise, any other ideas?

(BTW, this happened in my office system, so no massive rush to get it all sorted. But it would be nice...)

(And sorry for creating this mess. But perhaps we'll learn something useful.)

I'm not sure if I killed XXEngine3 before the upgrade. Anyway, now I'm getting this error.

Time to start with a fresh full download?

Yeah, it helps if I read the release notes! 'Unblock' worked...

Sorry!

116  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / 2.10 refuses to launch on: April 05, 2018, 08:24:12 pm
Hi Peter. I just upgraded to 2.10 on my office audio PC using the patch. I simply extracted the files over the existing files in the 2.xx folder. Everything seemed go fine. However, XX now refuses to launch. If I either double click on the new shortcut I created or on the xxhighend.exe file itself, absolutely nothing happens.

I stayed in MinOS for the upgrade, which I thought would be fine. (In the past, I always used to go back to Normal, but I recall you writing that that shouldn't really be necessary.)

Anyway, I'm happy to download the full version and start from fresh, but just thought I'd post this in case there were an easy fix.

Let me know...

I have an iFi Nano here. It's an OK DAC for the money. They have a version called the Nano iOne, which has loads of inputs, including Bluetooth. And another stripped down version called the LE, which should be reasonably cheap.

On 1st April 2016, Peter announced the B'ASS:

http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=3592.msg38243#msg38243

This ended up being something slightly different to the original idea (integrated into NOS1 instead of being external), but did manifest as a real product.

I suspect the Mach III is indeed real... but not developed specifically for HQPlayer.

The PC aims at HQPlayer users...

Something smells 'eggy'. And Easter is earlier this year than usual.

... but which does not explain the difference between Nothing and Arc Prediction. That is, I must take it that between these two latter you also perceive a difference.

Yes, there seems to be a [quite large] difference between Nothing and Arc Prediction, which surprised me and hence why I thought to ask the question.

I suppose it's academic really, as there's very little need to play hires back natively. I'll be doing this tomorrow though, as I'll be using a 176.4/192-capable DAC. I'll definitely set the filter to Nothing, as it sounds better with the 24/176.4 file I'll be using. [I found this also with the NOS1, playing some DXD files natively a while ago.]

Just interested in knowing what's happening...
