31  Ultimate Audio Playback / Phasure NOS1 DAC / Re: Can't install NOS1 driver on: September 11, 2020, 08:22:10 pm
OK, I've just tried to install the NOS1 driver on my music server, which has XX installed (for Tidal).

1. Click on Refresh button next to 'Driver Signing?' -> "Drivers must be signed"
2. Click on Change button & reboot

Install driver -> same error message as before

3. Start XX and click on Refresh button next to 'Driver Signing?' -> "Drivers must be signed"

(Driver signature verification doesn't seem to have been disabled.)

Any ideas?

(I surely received yours (twice)) :

I got two 'undeliverable mail' messages, so not sure what is going on there.

... it is my estimate that this is about the Driver Signing not being shut off. This can be done n XXHE settings, remember ?

This is my work PC and I don't have XX installed on this. I'm just trying to get my office NOS1 working with my work PC so that I can use my work PC as a RoonBridge. I don't intend to use XX on this PC and therefore don't really want to install it (but of course, I will if I have to).

I've just disabled driver signature verification in the Local Group Policy Editor... but I'm still getting the same error.

Any other ideas, or do you recommend I install XX and try disabling the driver signing from there?

The message "The hash file is not present in the specified catalog file" sounds a bit more 'serious' that simply disabling driver signing...

Hi Peter, very, very long time no talk! I hope you, Ciska and Paul are all OK.

I'm trying to load the NOS1 driver onto my work PC (which has W10 updates set to automatic). When I use the 'setup' in the 'Phasure_NOS1_v1.0.4b_768_setup_production' folder, I get the first error. If I use 'update driver' in Device Manager, I get the second error.

Any ideas?

Cheers, Mani.

Edit: sales at phasure dot com is getting bounced back

34  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Tidal Not Working on: June 19, 2020, 09:24:26 pm
Hi all, I'm not sure if this will be useful...

I stream Tidal with our TV in the kitchen. A couple of days ago Tidal stopped working on the TV. The message asked us to log into Tidal from any other device and to input the code shown on the TV. I logged in using the Tidal app on my phone, input the code, and Tidal starting working immediately.

I've just checked, and I can log into Tidal using XX 2.10 (on my music server).

Hope this helps. (And I hope everyone's well.)

35  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: V 2.11 an opus magnum on: April 06, 2020, 08:32:09 pm
I'm obviously late to this party. I'll download 2.11 tomorrow and share my thoughts then...

Peter, thanks so much for all your efforts over the years. I know that many of us wouldn't be having anywhere near as much fun listening to music if we'd never stumbled upon you and XXHE. And your following hardware offerings were the icing on the cake.

For my own part, I've never enjoyed my playback system as much as I do now. But somehow, I feel as though I know even less about what actually determines good sound than I did 12 years ago  scratching

If only I had time to experiment...

Anthony, I'm assuming the outbreak must be keeping you busy in some way? What's taking up your time?

Cheers,

But I am sorry to say that it does not work out for me.

Hi Peter, thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Yes, it blows my mind that the ethernet connection still affects the sound, even when it's just being used for RDC.

Cheers,
Mani.

Does anyone have any experience with the UpTone EtherREGEN? I'd be particularly interested in knowing whether it improves the sound with XXHE in Unattended mode...

I think you must have misread something. Thus, no need to use XXHighEnd whatsoever.

Hi Peter (long time no talk!). Hope all's well...

I think early on, you were using XX to set the correct output rate, by playing a track of the desired rate through XX before using HQP. But actually, just setting the correct rate in the NOS1 control panel works fine.

Hi Shreekant, a very quick reply as I'm travelling for work right now...

HQP works fine with the NOS1, once set up correctly. One thing that simply doesn't seem to work is any 48 kHz output (1x to 16x) - only 44.1 kHz output rates seem to work. I'm not sure why this is the case, and I doubt Peter has the time or inclination to look into this. So make sure that the correct 44.1 output rate is showing in the NOS1 control panel. You can still play back 48 kHz based material, but just set HQP to output a 44.1 rate - it'll simply convert it (without any loss, according to Jussi).

Does HQP sound as good as XXHE? No, definitely not, especially with the latter in Unattended mode. However... HQP allows you to use Roon, with all it's functionality, including its DSP (which I find quite interesting).

For me, it was worth getting HQP working with the NOS1 to use in my office system. But I doubt this would be the case for many other NOS1 owners.

41  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: RAM OS .Vhd file refresh on: August 04, 2019, 12:46:46 pm
d. Right after that you take out the disk.
e. Play for as long as you like, if you only understand that this "degrading" vhd file is in your drawer all the time. Happy

These were my immediate thoughts too.

On average, I'd say that I'm rebooting once every 2-3 months at the moment, in both my systems. If there is some sort of cumulative effect on the vhd file every time you boot from the disk, then I probably wouldn't have been affected much... yet.

FWIW, I find 352.8/384 the sweet spot with the NOS1.

Yes, 10 years later.  It's not like Peter is not trying...

Oh sure. But if Peter hasn't managed to do it...

On the upside, at least the Phasure software and hardware allows us to make the most of the less-than-ideal situation we all face. And I think we can all agree that the results can be stunning.

It's nice to dream...

My dream from day one has been that the DAC be totally immune to anything that happens before it. 10 years later...

Hi Gerard, if you haven't already tried this, try taking the Intona out of the chain. Also, try different USB cables.

(I've got 2 NOS1s, and one of them seems to be more sensitive to theses sorts of things than the other. No idea why...)
