511  Ultimate Audio Playback / Chatter and forum related stuff / RAM-OS disk WARNING on: January 27, 2016, 01:25:40 pm
Since getting Win10586.0 to run from RAM, I've experienced two effects:

1. I'm listening to music for waaaay longer than usual
2. I'm listening at slightly higher volumes than usual

I've now developed a slight ringing in one of my ears. Nothing serious, but a little annoying. Will it stop me listening to music? Of course not, but I hope it doesn't get any worse.

You have been warned.

Hey Paul, in Peter's sig it says:

Quote
Time Performance Index = Not the best (OS from RAM issue) / Time Stability = Off (OS from RAM issue)

Yeah, I had exactly the same issue when I set everything up last night. But I was so eager to listen to 10586 in RAM that I just left it for another day.

I'm now getting an "Activate Windows" message appearing at the bottom right hand side of my screen in 10586 in RAM. Music plays OK, though sometimes stops at the end of a track (not sure if this is related to the message).

I suppose these issues are date related? I think we need a tutorial on how to set the date back a few months 'properly' so that it works of all the OSs on the RAM-OS disk.

Peter? (Or anyone else who has managed to do this.)

But people, the Nothing Is Impossible story will continue. I already know ...

Hey, take as long as you want - right now I'm missing absolutely nothing!

Ooooooohhhhhh...

The best SQ I've ever heard from any system anywhere (I haven't been over to Paul's place to take a listen to his yet).

Peter, it's just as well that there's the North Sea separating us, as else I'd jump in my car and drive over to give you a big kiss and hug. How is this level of SQ possible? And how lucky are all we 'Phasurites' to have a total nutcase who believes "nothing is impossible" at the helm?

Happy Days!

Damn!!! I missed the UPS delivery. Hopefully they'll try to redeliver tomorrow.

Hey Peter, I can only speak for myself, but there is absolutely no need for you to rush. It really makes no difference if I get the RAM-OS disk next week or next month.

I can't imagine anyone else who has ordered one would feel any different. We all know how much effort this has taken on your part.

Just my 2c...

Anyone else using Intona with W8...

All my listening has been with W8 - I haven't touched W10 to date. Surprised that you're not hearing as big an improvement as I am, even with W8.

This Intona is GREAT! And great value for money too, at less than EUR 300 (for the Industrial). I have absolutely no affiliation with Intona (or Phasure, or any manufacturer for that matter), but I'd say that you need to beg, borrow or steal EUR 300 to buy one of these babies.

Haha... I've been using my Intona in my office system to date, as my main system is down right now. But the Intona was always intended for my main system, which will be back up next week. I'm listening to music through my (home) office system right now and thought I'd better readjust without the Intona, so I took it out. Well, this lasted for about 10 seconds or so. I put the Intona back in, started listening to music again, went on-line immediately and ordered another Intona for my main system!

I'm all for practicing what one preaches ;-)

Robert, for me the Intona is a must, as it's the base.

I mean, when I get the SSD from Peter, I will have the almost perfect Phasure setup (RAM-OS, optimized XX, Clarixa, NOS1a-B75, Blaxius, Orelos). And yet the performance would still remain be sub-optimal - good but sub-optimal. Nothing can compensate for the problems in USB transmission. Nothing... other than the Intona. Sure, there may be an Intona 2 at some point, but upgrading to this probably wouldn't be too expensive, and certainly not necessary to enjoy your music.

I would recommend that you buy an Intona and a cheap 15cm length of USB cable. I would use the short USB at the PC end and use your current Clarixa after the Intona. When more funds become available (great way of focusing your savings - just eliminate those mid-morning cappuccinos, or whatever, for a short while), order a SSD and a short Clarixa from Peter.

Basics first.

Question: the price is excl. VAT?

Hi Joachim, yes the price I paid was EUR 289, excluding VAT and excluding the shipping cost. But really, it's still very good value for money in this hobby.

The Intona is here, and I've had a bit of a listen to it on the system in my home office, which includes a NOS1a and a nice Genelec active speaker system (my main hifi system is currently down).

Well what can I say that hasn't already been said?

The sound has just 'cleaned up'. So much more realistic. I've A/Bed a few times with a direct USB connection and the difference really is night and day.

You can see there is something abnormal with the SSD. The informations are unreadable Wink

Plain English into Double Dutch in only ~1000 days! That's about as bad a deterioration as you could imagine.

I've just placed an order for an Intona too. I already have one short and one long length of Clarixa, so will be able to test the Intona with 'the best' USB cable immediately.

Will be back with thoughts on SQ once everything is up and running...
