I have an iFi iDSD Nano here and although not as good as the Micro on paper, I suspect it uses the same DAC chip. The Nano really doesn't play in the same league as the NOS1a. Even if the Micro is substantially better than the Nano, I doubt it would be in the same league as the NOS1a either. No other DAC that I have ever heard is.
That's not to take anything away from iFi - great products for the price.

Almost 5 years to double my download speed. Zero improvement on upload speed. Progress of a sort...
Will be trying XX2.03 later today and am especially keen to give Tidal a go. Although I'm aware that the internet speed will have no affect once the music starts playing (it will be 'pre-downloaded'), I'm assuming a faster download speed will reduce the time it takes from making a selection in Tidal to when the music actually starts in XX.

I'm running XX2.02 with the 1.03 driver (changed .tss to .tst) and everything works fine.
Are there anymore views as to whether 1.04 sounds better? (I don't want to hassle Peter unnecessarily for the 1.04 driver if there's really no need.)

I regard myself to be the loudest shouting person on the Net that a Linear PSU for an audio PC, WORKS. It works so d*mn good that now I don't understand why nobody is shouting about it. And yea, Mani, I know, you "admitted" that it works for you too. But you are the same as the so (really so) many others who obtained the Teradak - initially you are just too quiet. Or anyway quiet enough to not remember any hurays. Nah Peter, you're wrong. I didn't shout about the Teradak because there were so many other changes in my system at exactly the same time and I couldn't attribute the obvious increase in SQ to just the LPS. Although I didn't have much time to listen to the system over the summer (just after all the changes), one thing I was sure about was that I was finally content with the sound I was getting. I mean, how long did it take me to upgrade to 2.02? Oh, and I'd been using a Paul Hynes linear power supply with the PC I was using to make recordings (with the PMII) for I suppose over 4 years. At the time, I definitely shouted about the difference between the PH LPS and a SMPS. Mani. |

R cores have an air gap by their nature. This makes them capable of handling much more DC current than a toroid that has none. Remember the use of DC blockers (anti parallel diodes bridged by a capacitor)? These are applied to toroid PSUs just for this dc reason.
Next to that are r cores easier to wind and have a similar if not better form factor. Thanks Coen. Mani. |

Is there an advantage in using R-cores over toroidals? Well, here's a quote from a user called 'uncle-leon' on diyaudio.com: Toroids have inherently (relatively) high inter-winding capacitance, and even with a shield between windings I suspect they may be letting in a bit too much mains noise for a digital component. Any comments anyone? Mani. |

Hi Peter, thanks for this.
I did take a quick look at Performance in Task Manager when the PC first started switching off, but couldn't see anything untoward. But there's obviously something not right at my end, with such high heat sink temperatures. I'm going to reduce the speed in the BIOS and also take a look at temperature readings in general (CPU, etc) whilst I'm in the BIOS. (Will need to reinstall my GPU card to do this - PITA.)

I suspect that this is due to WiFi Services not being formally "kept". But you will find those under WiFi-Direct Services and obviously you lay aside that setting (at least I myself not even think of that). Yes, I lay WiFi-Direct Services aside - the Audio PC has no wifi capability. BUT... I can still connect to it using RDC via wifi, (see previous post). And when I do this in MinOS, I have to type in the IP address of the Audio-PC to make RDC work. In NormalOS, the Audio PC's name is sufficient. As I said in my first post, I'm not sure if this is in any way related to Michael's issue. Mani. |

Just to be clear, the Audio PC has no wifi capability - it is connected to a LAN switch via CAT6 cable. The house's wifi broadband router is also connected to the LAN switch via CAT6, and it is through the wifi broadband router that I can use RDC via wifi to control the Audio PC. But I can use any computer connected to the LAN switch via CAT6 too. In the latter case, I never have any connection issues whatsoever.

Hi Michael,
I'm not sure if this is totally related, but I also have an issue connecting under MinOS with Windows Remote Desktop Connection. Under Normal OS, I can connect using the Audio PC's name (in my case 'Le_Monster-PC'). Under MinOS, the Audio PC is simply not recognized. I have to use the Audio PC's IP address in order to connect. As soon as I go back to Normal OS, I can connect using the Audio PC's name.
HOWEVER... this only happens if I'm using wifi. If I'm connecting to the Audio PC with a computer hardwired to the LAN, there is no issue. Strange, I know.
