1  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: bad thing happend with Vista-HDD using XXhighend!? on: August 02, 2008, 10:16:29 pm
In the end only bad luck with xx, in any way. First blew up my tweeters with random data, now this... Ok, it's not alone all about the x-code, but i have not a good feeling about it, like Dogber early mentioned. Sorry Peter.

In the meantime i played alot (the most) with XMplay in WASAPI mode. This player has a amplification slider, very usefull for late night listening. For me xx brings not anything extra's at the moment. Sound is not better, only a bit different than other players in my honest opinion. For the 70 bucks i donated i hope Peterst can suprise me with future versions. For this moment i am finished with xx. Sorry again.
2  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / bad thing happend with Vista-HDD using XXhighend!? on: August 02, 2008, 03:13:44 pm
Yesterday i'll played with XX again since a some time not using it.
Started XX as administrator and loaded a .wav file.
Pressed play, nothing happened; XX, Vista both locked up completely.
Restarted the PC; NO BOOT!

Now after a night of panic en repairing the final conclusion is that the data on the hdd is still correct, but the harddisk is unbootable. Tried to repair it with setup cd, but it reports: disk unrepairable.
hmm.. Is this caused by XX or a stupid occasional?? I am using the HTPC nearly every day, never have problems.

3  Ultimate Audio Playback / Chatter and forum related stuff / Re: Vista Sp1 on: April 17, 2008, 11:34:01 am
Does the lanquage matter?
I installed SP1 RTM (english) more then a month ago and i only can say that it optimized things.
4  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Can we get rid of the "Strongly advised" ? on: April 14, 2008, 09:39:55 pm
The fact that the volumeslider in XX works in steps of 6db and has a delayed effect, maybe you can keep a 'friendly' reminder to be carefull with 0db.

Hybride,

 thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou

Sound has become a few steps forward like you said.... Even analoog!!!! More stage and cleaner are the right words. There is air in the sound!!

I am a happy man.....

And a few hours alone for myself....  Happy

Again thanxxx

Great to hear!

Another thing i like about this is that we both experience the same effects changes in SQ!

Gerard read my update in the previous post..
7  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: PCI card SPDIF output on: April 13, 2008, 11:51:15 pm

That's great!  Happy Can that also be done direct analoog?

I don't know Gerard, but i think that is not possible, because analog out is not a 'physical output'

update.. i checked. you can point it to 'Wave L/R host' if you are lucky thats direct analog out.
8  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: PCI card SPDIF output on: April 13, 2008, 11:40:01 pm

But not better than the CMedia I suppose ? smirk
Happy

Well yes actually! In the post i deleted (sorry) i mentioned that the EMU sounded softer and warmer. But that was because of the mixer involved.
Now without mixer (ahum. i think so) The depth is now equal to the cmedia/dogber, but the EMU has more stage, seems cleaner.
9  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: PCI card SPDIF output on: April 13, 2008, 11:33:51 pm
Well, it's quit easy..

Create a new session and create a 'send' within that session. Point the output to SPDIF.
Thats it. What i did wrong was creating a 'send' in the mixer instead of in the session.
Is this new for you guys?
10  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: PCI card SPDIF output on: April 13, 2008, 11:20:11 pm
Gerard,

I removed the post, because i have managed to bypass the mixer with the EMU. Although i think i did.
I have made a session which directly send the input to spdif. Non of the sliders is working then anymore.
Now i'm doing listening tests. Bypassing the mixer works much better! SQ is excellent.

At this moment i prefer the SQ of the EMU instead of the cmedia. The stage with bigger and the sound seems to be a bit cleaner.
I have to do some more testing.

This is the cmedia card i use http://www.trust.com/products/product_detail.aspx?item=12950
It has optical en coaxial out. The driver you can find here: http://code.google.com/p/cmediadrivers

Are you using the EMU1212m at this moment? Maybe you can try my session.
11  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: Q1 setting<>SQ on: April 07, 2008, 01:19:41 pm
The first difficulty to overcome is ofcause what is your reference sound? Your CD player? The same album on LP (from maby another master, or at least mixed differently (but hopefully not "mastered to dead" like many CD's these days (aka - to high volume so dynamic is unrepearable lost)))? Just your personal taste (of that precisly album) or something else?

You are right, but it isn't so difficult for me personal to find a static reference in case of tonality. It has nothing to do with hardware references. I listen to the sound of wood. Say from a basguitar or piano. And ok, thats personal, but hearing en 'feeling' the wood of such instruments is very hard to achieve with reproduction. When hearing it once, you'll never forget this emotion. And i heared it several times throughout the years. It is one of the characteristics wanted. But it is so damned hard to get them all in one set of equipment.
12  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: Q1 setting<>SQ on: April 06, 2008, 10:23:25 pm
Only playing at 16/44, there is only Q1 to play with... bored

I also like to ask other XX-users to try Q1 on very low and very high setting and get attention to tonality of instruments.
Plz report your experience.  The difference is considerable, at least on my set.
13  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Q1 setting<>SQ on: April 06, 2008, 09:09:29 pm
On this cold sunday i spend time to testing different settings of XX vs other players; XMplay, Jriver12, Foobar.
I used a song with a complex and loud begin with piano. My goal was to experience the tonality e.q. the natural consenance of instruments. To keep a long story short i found out that in my case i had to pull up Q1. The higher i set it, the more natural sound i get. Peter, you once mentioned that 'lower q1 should be better in terms of jitter'. Now i a have Q1=28! Tonality is ecxellent. Can you please give your opinion on this? Can Q1 made higher then 30? Where are the limits?

14  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: u10 vs. u8 on: April 02, 2008, 06:13:51 pm
About XMplay with wasapi:

IMHO it doesn't have stability of the sound. It does not feel solid as opposed to XX.
I would say the sound more liquid, not stable.

Got my new tweeter today, so playing with my Focal 1037BE's again.
And what do you think... XX blows XMplay away Shocked wacko Grin
XXplay shines, but not on every speaker... Don't ask me why..
15  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: u10 vs. u8 on: April 01, 2008, 12:19:38 pm
I already did that, but it doesn't play in Exclusive Mode with my soundcard (and it sounded "grey" in the mean time).

Mayby you should try a 18 dollar Cmedia with Dogber driver  Happy Wink
