1  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your questions about the PC -> DAC route / Re: Can't play 24/192 files on: November 03, 2010, 10:16:48 am
You are right Peter - I have not been able to find anyone with the same problem - which I find quite puzzling.
Neither have I managed to find anyone using the same combination (Hiface/Stello) - in order to verify that it (the combination) could work successfully.

I could try what you suggest going direct from motherboard to Stello. It accepts up to 96khz on RCA - but I
don't think I can set it hard to 96khz in anyway(?).

I have tried though, and succeeded, playing hirez (ks) (88,2 and 96) by firewire to an external M-Audio Firewire 410 and then to the
Stello RCA. I can see from the FW410 that the correct sample rate is going through. But that might not prove that the hiface is the one to blame?

Also note: When using hiface/Stello - with all media players, I see that the files are being played and there are no error messages, just no sound.

I have the same problem - even worse. With my Hiface and Stello DA200 DAC it is impossible to get sound with all files > 48khz (kernel streaming) .
I have tried XP, W7 and Vista, different machines, JRiver, Foobar and XXHighend.
I have not been able to get any sensible info from either supplier or producer. I guess there is a problem with the Hiface driver being incompatible with Stello. I'll wait for something superior to replace both Hiface and Stello. Meanwhile, the Hiface is banished to the drawer.

3  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / XXHighEnd for sound quality on: January 21, 2009, 03:30:40 pm
Hi Peter,

In the release notes for 09w-3 you state: "There are serious reaons to believe that this version is not the best for sound quality. If you are new here and want to experience XXHighEnd for sound quality, please go to XXHighEnd Model 0.9v-7." Since then several versions have been released (without such a statement). Would you say that the statement is not valid for the versions after 09w-3. That is, if one wants to upgrade, without testing and tweaking, will later versions mean improved sound quality?

4  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Engine #3 & Vista: No sound on: October 09, 2008, 10:44:11 pm
Hi Peter,

This is a bit embarrasing - no, it's quite embarrasing - please disregard my post. I found that raising the volume slider to the top (volume -0db (I thought that was dead quiet))
fixed it all. I now have sound from engine #3 using version 09-v7.
Sorry for taking up your time - on the other side: Another happy customer!

Hi Peter,
Thank you for your quick reply.

Or you may not understand that "default device" and "primary sound driver" are the same ? ... they are. In that case my above explanation probably won't help.
I was not certain, but now I am shure. This should mean I have set things like they should: "Speakers(5-USB Audio DAC) = Default Device = Primary Sound Driver.
(I was puzzled since I have the possibility to choose between both "Speakers(5-USB Audio DAC)" and "Primary Sound Driver" in the Output drop down list in XXHE - but those two are then
obviously the same)
So my problem then lies elsewhere and tonight I have downloaded and tried several previous XXHE versions and the funny thing is that up until version 09-t7 it works fine(engine #3). Going to 09-u0 it does not work.
I have tested a few versions ( about 5) later than 09-t7 and none of these works. So......am I stuck or is there something I can do?

6  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Engine #3 & Vista: No sound on: October 09, 2008, 01:14:44 pm
Hi,

I am not able to get any sound with Engine #3 in Vista (#1 and #2 works ok.
My gear: Hp Pavillion tx1000 (tablet pc), Vista Home Premium sp 1, 2GB Ram, AMD Turion 64x2, Stello DA220MKII USB DAC, XXHE 9v-6a (activated)
In playback devices I have set "Speakers (5-USB Audio DAC)" as default device and configured this one with default format 16/44100 plus marked for exclusive mode.
In XXHE Output I get to choose from "Primary Sound Driver", "Speakers (5-USB Audio DAC)", "Speakers (Realtek High Def. Audio)" and Realtek Digital Output High Def. Audio.
No matter which one I choose I get no sound. I get no error messages and the marker below "album" is advancing showing XXHE is playing.

Could it be that the problem has something to do with "Speakers (5-USB Audio DAC)"  not being my "Primary Sound Driver"? If so how do I get it to be?
All help to bring me to the promised sound (or vice versa) is appreciated.
Thanks.

Jon
