91  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Using dedicated machine to prepare Tidal streams on: October 01, 2017, 06:35:19 am
Of course they can.  You will need a network card for your XXHE PC (MusicServer) so that you can connect it to your Tidal computer via an ethernet cable in exactly the same way as you do with the MusicServer to AudioPC.  Point XXHE on your Tidal machine to the correct directories on the MusicServer and it will be all automatic.

Thanks Peter, that seems to work.
93  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Tidal: A problem occurred with registering this track on: September 29, 2017, 07:21:45 am
Hi Peter,

This is the dialogue box that pops up for every track when I am preparing a stream for a Tidal album.  I hit continue each time and it seems to work but obviously something is wrong.  The files copy ok to the non-temporary folder and play just fine.

Regards,

Anthony

You're getting me excited Peter!

Don't delay 2.08!

Will this also be able to get Roon working in short of a fashion?

Thanks Peter, I'll give that a try.
97  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Tidal button on: July 21, 2017, 12:33:33 pm
Hi Peter,

I was just thinking today that it would be nice to have a button that I can press to bring up the Tidal directory withoin XXHE.  As a heathen that has not yet progressed to galleries I still regularly use the little M button in the explorer area to access the music root.  There are 8little buttons there including the M and I was wondering if you could fill the available space other a T button, or something similar that would take me to the Tidal directory (not Tidaltemp).

Or perhaps there is a way to do this already?

Cheers,

Anthony

Hi Peter,

As you may have noticed the BBC Proms this year are streamed in FLAC.  I do enjoy that radio event (broadcasts start here on Monday) but if I could stream FLAC via the G3 I could not only listen when it suited me (first world problem!) but the sound should be superior to a FM signal that is blasted 89km over the air from transmitter to me.

Technically I can listen to the stream now if I plug a PC into my preamp (yes, I now have that line stage working very nicely indeed) or even go via the sound card that I use for room acoustic measurement, but streaming XXHE/G3 has to be the pinnacle.

Is internet streaming a difficult thing for you to add to XXHE?  Of course it is and I understand that there must be SQ compromise for live streaming to work in the XXHE ecosystem, but boy it would be nice to have.

Cheers,

Anthony

Thanks everyone, I saw the comment by hols on CA. I would appreciate a more thorough comparison though. I am especially interested in how the Lush behaves in the bass department.

Bass is excellent with the Lush.  More than excellent really.  Not soft, gooey, one-note bass but luscious, fleshed out, clean, soft bass with a wonderful harmonic tail.

Oh wait, 2.08 is almost ready. yes

I'm keen for that!

I think my The Lush is settling in a little more now that I have had it for a week or so.  Very, very nice...
102  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd PC / Re: JCAT NET Card FEMTO on: July 03, 2017, 07:11:20 am
Anthony,

There will be an electrical connection though. And NOW we may think such a network card will help ? ... I don't think so.

Yes, this is basically what I was meaning.  Of course I have no idea if the card would change anything but we do know that adding a medical ethernet isolator can change the sound in some situations (not necessarily ours).  I think Mani (or was it Alain?) had one floating about somewhere, made by Baaske or someone like that.

Careful or otherwise I'll pull the Bluetooth trick again. Happy (this was before your times I'd say).

I don't know what the Bluetooth trick was...

So once again, you are just right. But I felt it was perfectly allowed to say what I said, because of the context combined with the fact that RDC traffic is zero when nothing happens on the monitor. The electrical connection is there though, but as said, nothing is telling me that any super duper connection is going to make a difference. This really is rather the same as so many people thinking that a glass connection is inherently galvanically isolated and thus no noise can come through. This, while the protocol conversion (which is a PC process and an in-DAC electrical process on the other end) only adds piles of noise. And this is audible - for the worse of course.

Cheers,
Peter

No arguments from me that you were right to say what you did; I was not even arguing it at the time.

Cheers,

Anthony

I'm starting to come around to believing that DSETs may be the only really satisfactory way of using SET amps.

This post originally was much longer, but although with some sense, too much deviating from any subject. Happy

Shame. I quite like your long, 'deviating' posts  Wink

Mani.

Maybe start a thread to discuss this stuff Mani.  Peter and Bert already use many of the theoretical advantages of matched amplifier/driver channels in the Orelo speakers.  DSET is not just for problematic topologies such a as SET, but for less problematic SS devices as well.
104  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd PC / Re: JCAT NET Card FEMTO on: July 02, 2017, 01:32:06 pm

Of course not, as no network activity is going on during playback in the first place (pull the network cable for proof).

Hi Peter,

Not trying to start something here, but even though there is no network activity during playback there is still a LAN connection in some guise otherwise we would have no RDC.  No network activity is not the same as no network connection, and a network connection is an electrical connection to the MusicServer.  I've not really thought about the implications of the network connection as it is currently maintained on the AudioPC...I probably should not jump in here half-cocked!

Come to think about it, I need to think just how you manage to maintain the RDC with no network activity (probably a burst of traffic at the start of each track - hence the ticks we hear).

Cheers,

Anthony

EDIT: I am not saying the FEMTO thingamy has any value to us at all

Dear People,

It takes just a tad too much of effort to understand the intentions of Paul's post here. I noticed it myself, but I was also pointed to it from (private) messages from others.

The written word and cultural differences are not always the most conducive to accurate communication

I just laughed at Paul and Gerard's posts...funny...but thanks for the explanation anyway Peter.  Sounds like your English holiday did not have much of an itinerary which usually makes for a relaxing get-away.
