91  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: New Filter request(s) on: June 22, 2014, 06:36:01 pm
Thanks Peter,

The custom filter does seem to be a noticeable improvement on my non NOS 1 system. But a word of caution,  I was using AP upsampled to 192 and left that setting when I switched to the custom filter and received  deafening static.
All works well without upsampling and this may just be my system but others might want to pay attention to the upsampling setting.

David

Hi Rudolf,

This happens to me also.  I usually have success exiting the hot keys  XX. Ahk on the task bar and letting it restart the next time you go into unattended.  It could be completely unrelated  to the real problem but it is worth a try.

Best,

David

93  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Burst of white noise on: May 14, 2014, 09:54:46 pm
I've had the burst of white noise also.  It happens to me when I have to many "alt"  commands in a row without waiting for the computer to respond.  Once,  I was quickly trying to lower the volume in unattended using the "alt d" command so I could talk to my 5 year old daughter when the white noise hit us.  I think we both had a slight heart attack.

Now I move very slowly when I hit "alt u, d" and I haven't had any issues.

94  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: Is Windows 8 worth it? on: March 31, 2014, 03:32:21 pm
Hello,

Thanks for the advice. I really don't want to add any trouble for myself and will stick with W7.

Thanks again,

David

Thanks Peter,

I was following the forum and almost switched to W8 when you went back to W7 and I was impressed with your new settings.  Your system is lightyears ahead of mine that I have to take some of your recommendations with a grain of salt.  That said,  I am always looking for  new ways to improve the sounds and  am still on the fence if W8 may make that much of a difference for me.

Best,

David
96  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Is Windows 8 worth it? on: March 29, 2014, 05:26:04 pm
Hello,

I'm running Windows 7 in minimized and am happy with the sound quality I'm getting on my system but am wondering if anyone thinks the sound from Windows 8 is a definite improvement and worth the upgrade.  I've looked through the forum and nothing seems to convince me yet. I am running the latest version of XXHighEnd.

Has anyone upgraded from 7 to 8 and been impressed by the improvement in sound?  Also,  I am only using this on a music PC so is there any reason to get any version other than the basic?

Thanks,

David

Thank you. You are both about 3 hours away but I may be able to take a break from work and make a trip in a couple of weeks. I will PM you both soon to give you more information.

And again, thank you for your offer.

98  Ultimate Audio Playback / Phasure NOS1 DAC / Any NOS1 Owners in Connecticut? on: March 21, 2014, 04:29:36 pm
Hello All,

I have been reading may great things about the NOS1 but I have not been able to listen to it yet. Are there any owners in Connecticut or New York City area who would be open to demoing their system?

Thank you,

David
99  Ultimate Audio Playback / Phasure NOS1 DAC / Re: Nice "Review" of NOS1 on: February 24, 2014, 12:39:51 pm
Thanks Peter,

When I was first able to upgrade some of the components in my studio and started looking for a music player,  I went to Jriver  and believed that "bitperfect"  was the best sound you could get from your computer.  After about a month of using that program,  I found out about XXHighend and gave that a try.  Once I got  it up and running I could not believe how much better it sounded.  I would switch back and forth between the two programs to see if my ears were really hearing things correctly.

That experience of hearing the superiority of your work has led me to almost religiously follow this forum and now consider saving for the NOS1.  I  know I would not be so absorbed in this had I not heard first hand the difference your obsession with obtaining the best possible sound has made.

Regards,

David

Thanks Nick,

I was hoping anyone with experience with the NOS1 would chime in.  I have been incredibly impressed by the sound I get using XXHighend that I (unfortunately)   also started to consider the next steps to get better sound.  The NOS1 costs about the same amount as what I have spent on everything so far,  excluding  my computer,  but the concenses seems to be that it is worth the investment.

Thanks again,

David

Hi Brian,

That review started me to think about the possible improvements of someday adding the NOS1 to my system. I listen to music while I work in my art studio and can't afford most of the high end equipment I read about here. Right now I have a Marantz PM 8004 and use a Marantz NA7004 as a DAC.  A coaxial cable from a Xonar Essence ST soundcard feeds the NA7004. The speakers I have are B&W 603s.

My question, I guess to  anyone with a NOS1, is would it offer a great improvement to this system? or should I save the money to upgrade other components first?

Thanks,

David

Thanks Peter. Hitting the "C" button helped and now all is well.

103  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / RAM Disk and Unattended on: December 07, 2013, 11:08:39 pm
Hello,

I just started using a RAM Disk for playback and it works well in attended but once I switch over to unattended, nothing will play. There are no errors or music. Unattended has work fine with the playback designated to the hard disk.
It will not work even if I just try to play just one song.

Any suggestions as to why this is happening would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

David
104  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your questions about the PC -> DAC route / Re: Esi Juli soundcard trouble on: October 04, 2013, 12:41:49 pm
Thanks Peter. I installed v1.07 because I have Windows 7 but that did not work either. When I test the sound on the Windows device settings, it will work fine up to 24 bit, 48000 hz then after that I get a static and tinny sound. Once it gets up to 192000, the test sounds slows and get lower but still have a strange static.
I think I will try to exchange card for a one.

Best,

David
105  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your questions about the PC -> DAC route / Esi Juli soundcard trouble on: October 03, 2013, 11:47:15 pm
Hello,

I just installed a Juli sound card and anything over 44100 sounds completely awful. Very staticy and impossible to listen to. I don't know if I have a bad card or there is something I am obviously overlooking. It has the newest drivers but I have been spending hours on this and can't make any improvement.

If anyone has had any experience with this, please let me know.
