166  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Q5=1=PC crash & other misdemeanours on: January 09, 2014, 07:49:29 am
Not sure but I think it locked up before music started. No response from keyboard or mouse so could not start Task Mgr.

With 0.9 I did get Q3/Q4/Q5 at 0/0/1 to play music so maybe as you mentioned its a combination of these settings.

I also had a PC lock up with Q3/4/5 at 1/1/1. Had to hold power button down to stop PC, but it was OK next boot but back with my normal settings (see signature). Not tried to repeat these setting.
168  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Can't set clock resolution on: January 04, 2014, 03:24:15 pm
Problem was the Centrance driver for the USB DAC http://centrance.com/downloads/ud/

It only works at 0.5ms clock resolution but even when centrance not in memory and different dac connected 0.5ms remains only option, so I think some W7 setting has been made.

Although clicking OK to 'asked for clock resolution wasn't met, asked for 15ms, received 0.5ms' message gets music playing it does not change the value in Settings. So to get back to having the resolution options I select 0.5ms in Settings then close XXHE & reboot. Then I can change resolution to desired value again.

Hope this makes sense.
169  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Can't set clock resolution on: January 04, 2014, 09:19:40 am
Yesterday I conected different USB DAC (with different USB design) & when I started play I got message 'asked for clock resolution wasn't met, asked for 15ms, received 0.5ms. OK'd message & play started. Went back to my original DAC and got same problem, whereas previously I could select any clock resolution, now the only selected resolution that does not give the message is 0.5ms.

I experienced similar XXHighend 1.186 was Red so I thought it had activated automatically. But one setting I could not make was the Processor Cores, the drop down box was not active. I entered my activation code and then I could select Processor Cores but XXHighEnd turned blue. After resart (or maybe it was a reboot) XXHighEnd was Red again and all settings still available. Now all working fine so far.

monitor size is 100%

I reinstalled 1.186 and font size is now OK

0.9 however is still small font size, nothing I've tried fixes it.

Font size has suddenly gone from OK to unreadably small in XXHE. W7 desktop has not changed and I have not changed Control Panel settings so its just an XXHE issue. It occured a couple of days ago in 0.9 and reboots into Normal OS or Minimized OS have not fixed it. Just installed 1.186 but it has the same problem.

Happy New Year

Yes the problem was sometimes winmgmt was disabled.
This occurs if press power button to shutdown during or after unattended play, next time I boot winmgmt is disabled.

If I use the following sequence to shutdown from unattended play then all is well:-
Alt-S
Alt-T
Alt-X
close XXHE
shutdown.

Now that's sorted I tried disabling HPET but then TPI shows "Not the Best" so for my computer I did need to execute the Command Prompt instruction :-

bcdedit /set useplatformclock true

to get TPI - optimal

Colin

In task mgr winmgmt is running

In services I see Windows Management Instrumentation startup type manual and status started. I'll set it to automatic and see how it goes.

Don't rush new version of XXHE

Hi Peter

I switched on logging, files attached.

I'm starting to feel like Alice in Wonderland.

Indeed one of the log files showed OS as Win32.

Changed OS mode a couple of times and logs show OS as Win7 and for these TPI is Optimal. Why it works sometimes and not others I don't have any idea. I'll keep an eye on it with log ON because I think the problem may happen again.

My task bar does not change in minimized probably because visual effects are already adjusted for best performance. In normal os I have 35 processes and in minimized os 25 processes so I can use this to confirm mode if I need to.

Previously I've used CMP on this PC but with only a few sevices switched off (to manual that is). Also I have used fidelizer in past but neither of these have I used since installing XXHE.

Time for Christmas, have a good one

I've rebooted many times today but always I'm getting TPI n/a. It does not matter today whether HPET is enabled or not. I also tried flipping minimize os and then resetting minimize os in case I was not actually minimized, but this did not fix it. How can I tell if I'm actually minimized, my desktop does not change ?. When I click refresh or try change there is no indication that any process is run, I think yesterday a window flashed up breifly when refresh clicked.

The conclusion for me is that I have had to do 'bcdedit /set useplatformclock true' to get TPI - optimal

Maybe it will help others to get TPI - optimal.
179  Ultimate Audio Playback / Playback Tweaks and Source related subjects / Re: Enable HPET for 'Time Performance Index' on: December 23, 2013, 06:11:55 pm
I just did bcdedit /set useplatformclock false then reboot.
playlist says W7, I don't think it ever said otherwise.

TPI says - Not the best, even after refresh.

I ran WinTimerTester (see link in first posting) and QueryPerformanceFrequency was 1.62370 MHz

Re-enabled HPET and TPI back to Optimal
QueryPerformanceFrequency now 14.31818 MHz

BTW I'm using W7 Starter
