61  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Streaming Data Folder - Request on: January 07, 2018, 05:29:36 pm
Hi Peter

It would be more convenient when using the "move to streams data folder" if it could move to my music folder. I set my music folder as location to do this but XXHE adds a tidal sub folder and puts in there.

If artist already exists only the album needs to be moved otherwise artist & album would be moved.

Something for future XXHE version perhaps.

Best Regards, Colin

Hi Peter

I think it is XXVL.dat  it is not saved from A:..... to C:.......

Thanks for all your work this year especially MQA which is sounding good now, I've gone back to adaptive by the way.

Hope TIDAL survives

Have a good Christmas

Just checked again & Q changes are still saved, just volume that is not changed.
At some time in past it must have worked otherwise it would be booting at default installation volume.

Hi Peter

Its not me I never make same mistake twice (well hardly ever) haha.

All other setting changes are being saved.

I normally shutdown via STOP, just tried closing XX & shutting down via Windows but Volume is still not saved.

67  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: Best Settings for MQA Sound Quality on: November 20, 2017, 10:13:07 am
Nice post Mani:- Well I have to say that I am thoroughly enjoying exploring MQA-encoded music with the NOS1 at the moment. There tends to be a clarity to the sound that I really like. To my ears it's a bit like comparing AP to AI filtering - AP tends to lose the LF bloom but is simply more accurate-sounding and more life-like.

Guys, it's obvious to me that Peter must have spent a lot of time and effort sorting MQA out for XX. I think we owe it to him to at least try it and give our feedback.

I have been working with MQA a few weeks now & I quite agree with your SQ comments & complements to Peter.
----------
My DAC is NOS but not NOS1(a) it needs different settings to get good SQ from MQA but these a fine with redbook as well.

Main change is to KS Mode = Special, *Q1 must = 1 to avoid sound brake up / distortion. Q4 =1 or 2 improves SQ but only for first tracks played, next tracks in playlist result in sound brake up. Q4=3 working nicely at moment.

If you have a DAC other than NOS1(a) give KS Mode = Special a try, of course you may need other Q setting than mine.

Yes it usually occurs Attended. Now I'm not sure it has happened Unattended. Will let you know if it does.

Plenty of room on B: the error can happen in attended play with only one track in play list.
Seems to me it is falsely reporting an error.
Log file attached.

Since I think 2.08 I have been getting the error but not all the time. I can't see any pattern as to when the error occurs.
I've not changed Rama.Bat. Playback Drive properties show only 6MB used, same as straight after boot. Happens with or without Garbage Collect.
If I reformat B: with wrong Allocation Size then press play I get message "Volume B: will be completely erased" press Yes to that and music plays. But try to play another track and "Not enough space.........." message again.

Yes that's the message.

I see now it happens when you try it from the Tidal Temp folder.

It works ok for albums moved to the music root folder.

75  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Best Settings for MQA Sound Quality on: November 08, 2017, 05:34:33 pm
Thought I would start this topic because the settings I found to improve MQA sound quality (SQ) have been mentioned in the topic "2.09 Sound Quality" but mostly that Topic is probably about Redbook 16/44.

I've been trying MQA but found sound quality to be rather poor compared to 16/44 and even conventional HiRes music, this with settings nominally same as my signature. I tried increasing Q1* and SQ gradually improved up to Q1=14*40. Still not great but at least some albums listenable. These setting however were not good for 16/44 which then sounded bland & uninteresting. Hence starting this topic specific to MQA.

Just started to try KS Mode:Special with more usual Q1=14*1 and this is promising & I will try some more. Peter tells me KS Mode:Special does not work with NOS1 DAC. My DAC is DDDAC1794 with cm6631a USB.

Hope this encourages others to experiment with MQA a report back.

Cheers, Colin
