136  Ultimate Audio Playback / Cables (Community induced) / Re: The greatest invention in/for Audio (Lush^2) on: March 07, 2019, 08:58:48 am
I found the "consensus" configuration A:BWYR, B:BWR not quite right with large orchestral works.  Have been listening to A:BW&YR, B:BW for a few hours tonight.  This configuration seems better with large orchestral works.  Large string sections sound fuller, not scratchy, and somehow more coherent.  Also imaging seems more precise with placement of orchestra.  Will keep this as default for now, and come back to consensus configuration in a week or so and see how it feels.

Peter,

In addition to the difference in HF content, there is something about the consensus configuration where the "attack" on notes: piano, drums particularly seems more accurate.  Notable listening to Keith Jarrett on piano.  One album worth using for tests is the incredible "Birds Requiem" by Dhafer Youssef

Just tried some comparisons between the "consensus" configuration A:B-W-Y-R, B: B-W-R, and Peter's latest A: B-Y, B:.  I have to say I prefer the consensus configuration.  The new configuration sounds pleasant and detailed, but lacks dynamics and emotion.  Maybe this comes off as "natural", but it is a natural that can start to border on flat.

I tried a few more configurations, some based on the discussions on the CA forum, but none of them is better than the consensus with my system and XXHE configuration.

My only dissatisfaction with the consensus configuration is in playing dense, complex, orchestral music.  This could be a problem with classic music recordings in digital format.  Many are mastered badly.  I find the playback a bit on the harsh, scratchy side--especially trumpets and massed strings.

After listening some more, and switching to Charlie Haden Tokyo Adagio, I think B:B-W-Y sounds a little unnatural--too many "resonances" and echoes.  More listening needed.

Nick,

Have been listening with A: B-W-Y-R and B: B-W-Y this evening, especially to classical music--Bruckner particularly.  Really nice.  At least for this music, I think I prefer this setting to B: B-W-R.

Good find.

142  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: 2.10 sound quality on: January 01, 2019, 08:40:25 pm
So some of the new year celebrations ended up with a big music listening session.  Used Peter's new settings: Q1/xQ1 30/5; SFS 0.69.  Blaxius^2 and Lush^2 with "standard" settings.  SPECTACULAR!  Even more so as the SPL went up as the evening progressed.

Happy New Year again to everyone.  Wishing health, happiness, success, goodness to all on this forum!
143  Ultimate Audio Playback / Orelino / Orelo MKII Loudspeakers / The Orelo Mk II is an AMAZING speaker on: December 30, 2018, 09:44:33 pm
Earlier today, just to experiment, I decided to keep everything the same except to switch to the LX521 speakers I have, and what I was using before the Orelos.  In my recollection the LX521 was very, very good: spacious, dynamic, with great imaging and accurate tone.  Somewhere in my mind I imagined that perhaps there were some things that the LX521 did that were better than the Orelo.

SHOCK, SHOCK, SHOCK!!

The Orelos are so far better than the LX521 I was stunned.  The effortless speed, microdynamics, bass, mids, treble, tone, engagement, percussion--EVERYTHING.

Peter, Bert: the Orelo is world class.  I appreciate them even more after my recent experiment.  BUT, just as all the innovations with the Mach III, Lush^2, Blaxius^2, XXHE 2.10c, I wonder if there are some areas to make the Orelo even better!!

Happy New Year!

144  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd PC / Re: Phasure Mach III Audio PC with Linear Power Supply on: December 30, 2018, 09:33:51 pm
Peter,

Of all the innovations this year, the Mach III has been, without a doubt, the MOST significant.  It really has provided the foundation for a whole new level of SQ.

145  Ultimate Audio Playback / Chatter and forum related stuff / Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays on: December 25, 2018, 12:47:12 am
Sending a quick note to wish Peter and family, and the extended "Phasure"  family a wonderful Christmas/holiday: health, happiness, and the great joy of music.  I have constantly been amazed at this community, quite unique in the world of "high-end" audio.

Thanks to everyone who has made this forum what it is, and looking forward to more wondrous innovation ahead.

146  Ultimate Audio Playback / Cables (Community induced) / Re: Blaxius Squared ! on: December 14, 2018, 04:17:36 am
In preparation to listen more critically to Blaxius^2 and various SQ settings, I got hold of a laser distance measure and aligned distance between speakers and listening position to within 3 mm.  This alone has contributed quite a bit to SQ, especially imaging and sound stage.  I would highly recommend that everyone get speakers aligned as accurately as possible before trying various different settings.
147  Ultimate Audio Playback / Cables (Community induced) / Re: Blaxius Squared ! on: December 11, 2018, 12:36:05 am
Arvind,

I think I have the same equipment set up as you do.  I do not find the sound presentation "forward" in any way with the two configurations that Peter has suggested (the one with SFS at 10.19, the other with SFS at 140.19).  I plan to do some experimenting in the next several days--been a bit busy to listen critically, and let you know what I find.

I do find that classical music is the most challenging!  Trying to optimize settings using some good classic music recordings.

148  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: USB Stream and FIFO errors on: November 30, 2018, 07:51:26 am
Setting the USB buffer to 4 ms seems to have fixed the errors.  Not sure if anyone else has experienced this.  I will try other values, and back to 16 ms.  Maybe this is just placebo, but the SQ is even more astonishing.  More soon.
149  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: USB Stream and FIFO errors on: November 26, 2018, 05:04:24 pm
Peter,

I don't think so.  I will try it, but I do not think it is related to Blaxius^2.  My guess is that somehow in moving equipment and cabling around, I may have introduced some new factor:  there are some places where power cords and Blaxius^2 run parallel for a few feet.  Maybe this?  I will do some further experiments in the next few days.  It is exactly what I saw happening with LED lights after I switched to Lush from Clarixa.

150  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / USB Stream and FIFO errors on: November 26, 2018, 04:52:57 am
All,

Over the last few days, I've started to experience (again) USB Stream and FIFO errors, and with it the occasional "tick" or "scratch."  This used to happen to me earlier whenever I turned on LED lights or dimmers.  I installed a dedicated circuit for the audio system, and the LED lights stopped bothering me.

Recent changes are Blaxius^2, and some rearrangement of cables to accommodate the fatter B^2.  Not related to SFS settings.  I've rebooted several times, disconnected and reconnected the Lush^2.  Still occurs, and now even with LED lights out.

Wondering if anyone has ideas to try.  Big distraction from fully listening to B^2, etc.
