166  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd PC / Re: Phasure Mach III Audio PC with Linear Power Supply on: August 18, 2018, 08:55:50 pm
I received the Stealth III (14/28) a few days ago, along with the Lush^2, and have just started to listen.

I started to listen with the though "I must post something on the forum about the sound" when a very strange thing happened.  I wanted to write not about the sound, but about the MUSIC.

I wanted to tell everyone about the performers, compositions, songs I was listening to.   The "system" faded completely into the background.  I was left with, and lost in, the MUSIC--real, palpable, exquisite.

Much more later--
167  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / File Names with Accents on: July 07, 2018, 09:40:07 pm
All,

I just got the

"Music Files does not exist (1):UnicodeTrack0001.wav.  Consider that the LAN is shut down during playback while you play a .WAV and have not set 'Copy To XX-Drive by standard'."

message while trying to play the Sylvain Chauveau album "Le Livre Noir Du Capitalisme"

I thought I'd rename the file names and see if it would play.  Noticed something interesting.  When I place the edit cursor just after a letter with an accent, and then hit backspace, it gets rid of the accent only, not the whole character.  Doing this on all of the characters that had accents, I removed all accents, and the album now plays.

Passing this along.  It isn't a big problem right now.  Assuming we'll eventually get a fix for these files with accented characters.

I have noticed this ONLY when double-clicking an album in the Library area.  I've never had this problem if I drag the folder over to the playlist area

Based on Peter's descriptions, and the recent comments by Fred and Music33, I have gone ahead and ordered the Mach III with the 16/32 configuration.  Will post impressions after I get a chance to listen.  I started out with the original XXHE PC and the NOS1a (with Blaxius, Clarixa) and XXHE 2.00a, and have followed the upgrade to Mach II, RAM-OS, G3, 2.10 always surprised by further improvements in SQ.  About a year ago, I also upgraded the Linkwitz LX521 speakers I had with the Orelos.  It has been an amazing journey, all the while discovering more music.  As I've said before, there is no system out there that provides this kind of upgrade path!!

I tried a comparison last night--not extensive between Lush with Phisolator, and without.  Mach II audio PC.  At least in my system, the overall SQ with Phisolator is better integrated and more "real."  Will listen some more and try to qualify in some greater detail what I observe.

Robert,

Also, some of the settings for XXHE only work in minimized mode.

Mani,

They look good.  As also your white NOS1a!!

Using the external amp connectors works really well.  Thanks Arvind. SQ is not as spectacular as NOS1a to Orelos, but I now have an MSB DAC feeding an Audio Sector chip amp going to the Orelos external amp connections.  MUCH better sound than all other HT setups I've tried, even with just L and R.  No need for sub-woofer, or surround speakers.

Arvind,

Thanks for this.  That might be the simplest.  The external amp inputs are the red and white speaker speaker banana plug inputs on the back panel, correct?  Do these just bypass the amps? Is the horn/woofer crossover/DSP still applied.  Assume the horn mid/high crossover is still applied with the passive crossover.

Is there a reason you use the preamp output rather than power amp output?

Thanks a lot Arvind,

Ramesh

Peter,

I may have to try your method!! My XLR inputs do not seem to work. I remember somewhere that with the BNC inputs on the Orelo, maybe the XLR is not functional.  Is this correct?  I'll keep investigating.

Peter,

Thanks for this.  A few questions:
- If the movies are 48K, and you are playing through the NOS1, are there any issues with SQ because of the sample rate?
- The original XXHE PC is my music server.  It has only one ethernet port. Is your music server connected to the Stealth and the internet? Are you using two ethernet ports, or one wireless?

I was going down the path I suggested because I watch content mostly streamed using a Roku streaming stick, and using a DAC with HMDI input simplifies this.  Of course, I would prefer to use the NOS1 if I could.

177  Ultimate Audio Playback / Orelino / Orelo MKII Loudspeakers / Using Orelo for home theater L and F? on: May 05, 2018, 07:17:49 am
I have a quick question on the possibility of using the Orelo speakers for 2-channel listening with NOS1 DAC, and also for home theater left and right channels.

The setup I am looking at is using a relatively inexpensive HDMI DAC (Essence HDACC II), and connecting the XLR outputs of the DAC to the XLR inputs on the Orelo.

Essentially the BNC output from NOS1 would connect to the BNC input on the Orelo, and the XLR output of the Essence DAC would connect to the XLR input of the Orelo.

The question of course is: will this work, assuming I turn off the NOS1 while using the Essence DAC.

If someone is using the Orelos for 2-channel and home theater with another setup, I'd love to learn how.

Michael,

Welcome to the forum.  Curious to hear reviews from those presently using Stealth II on the improvements with Stealth III.  Stealth II was definitely an improvement over the original XXHE PC, BUT so much else improved (NOS 1a upgrades, XXHE upgrades, Blaxius, Lush, etc.).  What you will find is there is no other system of products out there that has this kind of continuous upgrade path built in.

Looked up the LEEDH E2 speakers.  Seeing 81dB (or 83dB) efficiency made me a bit concerned.  My experience is that speed, clarity, dynamics are hard to accomplish at these efficiency levels.  Not sure there's anyplace to listen to them in San Francisco.  The Orelos by the way are utterly fantastic!!  You have to hear them.

Again welcome,

Ramesh
179  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: 2.10 sound quality on: March 27, 2018, 01:46:23 am
First:

THERE IS NO ONE ELSE in audio delivering the kind of continuous improvement that Peter provides.  It is really staggering and unique.

Like everyone else here, just when it seems that SQ could not be any better, the bar is raised, and it absolutely has been raised with 2.10 and the new settings.

Some observations (playing familiar albums):
- Extreme clarity of instruments; separate yet coherent, without sharpness of any kind.  Accurate timbre (piano, horns, drums)
- Tremendous dynamics
- Fantastic resolution without any "etched" sound
- More 3D sound-stage

I'm not sure exactly what the balanced load or nervous rate settings do, or how much of the improvement in SQ is the SFS vs these parameters.

Amazing!!

I've been listening for a few days with SFS at 20.19 and must say that SQ is really beautiful, as is the music I've been listening to.  Might just leave things as is for now.
