Ultimate Audio Playback / Phasure NOS1 DAC / Re: Blaxius ?

Hi Peter
That sounds great!!
So is my assumption correct that the RCA connectors on the NOS1a get convertetd into COAX?
Will the XLRs still be functional?
My Amp has also both XLR and RCA, so the same conversion would be done to the RCAs of the Amp?

Hi Peter
Everything solved now.
It was really a config problem of the Remote Access Software on the Mac.
Quite funny that the remote software would do such a thing like showing different audio devices, if you go remote.
Well I guess I have learned something new then.
Thanks again Peter.

Hello Peter
Would it be possible to get my NOS1a blaxed?
In the same context, is it recommended to also upgrade/blax the Amp to coax-connections?
What is the current state of the blaxius project, if you want to call it this way?
There a lot of bits and pieces of information around but I am not quite sure I fully understand the latest consensus on this.
Thanks in advance.

Hello Peter
This is some funny windows stuff going on here.
So the screen shot I did was done from Microsoft Remote Desktop Software.
So it seems that when going Remote, the Audio Drivers are not shown anymore. Instead there is a Remote Audio Driver showing up. When I directly access XXHIghEnd PC (without remote) the sound device is shown again.
What kind of funky stuff is going on. Ok I am a Noob with Remote Access but this behavior is really unexpected.
Maybe I have to change something in the settings.
.......
And here the solution:
I have to configure Remote Desktop to play sounds on Remote Device. If not the problems start.
So hopefully this will help somebody.
Problem solved.
Many thanks Peter for responding so quickly.
Good evening.
Michael

Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Windows 8: no audio devices installed

Hi
On my new install, XXHighEnd Player is working perfect.
The funny thing though is that in windows in sounds, I get the message that no audio devices are installed.
I installed the drivers as instructed but somehow Windows does not get it that the audio devices are installed.
I attached a screen shot of my devices and the sound properties.
What I tried to solve: - Uninstall and re-install drivers
This is really strange.
I hope someone has an idea.
Regards, Michael

Ultimate Audio Playback / Your questions about the PC -> DAC route / Re: Building a PC for NOS1a

Hi Peter
Point taken. However I see this particular thread as a brainstorming thread to come up with ideas to built the next generation HighEndPC. As you implied, most components of your original built are not available any more. So for people building something with actual components available, a lot of the PC build info cannot be directly applied.
I agree that once a successful built is tested, there should be a seperate thread with concrete solutions that are actually working. But even if I test it, the only reference point I have is the other PC with normal components. The most interesting comparision would be to compare my build e.g. with yours.
I have already written that my components did not work out as planned, I had to do some modifications to the case in order to fit everything in.
For this reason, I want to share my learings and also try new things like this USB card. I know it has been tried before. But things _could_ be different for the NOS1a.
More to follow
Michael

Just a quick update. Finished the built for the XXHighend PC. Works wonderful and completly silent. No fans in the case and external PSU. One word of caution:The case I proposed is not compatible with the socket I chose for my XEON. I had to do some manual adjustments in the passive cooling bracked. So maybe another XEON might be better for easy assembly. This still to do: I will soon receive the linear PSU and a new USB card I will compare. SOtM tX-USBexp Audiophile PCIe to USB Audio Card see: http://www.sotm.sonore.us/SOtM3.html#6I can directily connect the Linear PSU to the USB card. Anybody here tried a similar setup? Hi Peter These filenames were actually created on a Linux / Mac system where they are prefectly legal and working. There are no such restrictions there. As you say, these are illegal in the Windows System It is not possible to create such names in Windows but somehow when you copy the files over, no error message is displayed and it seems to work. Funny that I am the only one with this problem so far. But then, I always bring things to their limits somehow. Regards, Michael

Hi Peter
Will paste the full path this evening.
The error message does not appear if I remove the ? and the " " in the shown examples. BTW, those are actual practical examples I found to cause this in my music collection
I have seen it happening also for other characters but I would have to dig further.
My conclusion is that if I get this funny error, something is wrong with the filename. Changing the filename always corrected the problem. The thing is just that the error message is very misleading and it took me a long time to identify the root cause (filename incompatibility).

Hi Peter
Here 2 examples:
04 - "Wachet Auf, Ruft Uns Die Stimme" BWV 645.flac
05 - Hello (Why Are We Whispering? remix) - Martin Solveig.flac
The path is not the problem, unless it also contains these chars.
With this filename, the error is "not enough space in playback drive", so out of memory I reported before is not correct. However the error is still misleading.
