Happy to report 0.9y-8 plays that album just fine now.  thankyou

Thanks Peter,

I think I understand where you're coming from. You are trapping a trend of abnormality over a predetermined timespan ( albeit small ) rather than a digital difference between adjacent sample points. A sudden large jump between 2 points ( if that was all there was ) would probably go unnoticed, whereby if that jump were to continue over a dozen or so ( or more ), might.

Thanks teacher  Grin

288  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: 0.9y-7 and Crack Detect criteria with KS and DAP on: March 07, 2010, 10:14:20 am

I just set it to 1000 ...

Thanks Peter.

Can I presume that the number you specify has some bearing on the digital value one sample point can vary from the previous? This would make sense as a small number would indicate a gentler slope ( allowable ) than a bigger number.

I suppose I could load the track into Sound Forge ( or similar ) and zoom right down to a per sample view and look at the waveform shape. Might give me an idea, however after your AP algorithm has done its thing it's quite likely the newly created "intermediate" sample points won't look like a simple average between the originals.

Ta again,

ciao
289  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / 0.9y-7 and Crack Detect criteria with KS and DAP on: March 07, 2010, 09:21:04 am
hey there Peter,

did you ever get around to revamping the trip conditions that bring forth the crack detect message when using KS with DAP ?

Just queued up Stanley Clarke's "1,2, To The Bass" album , track 1, and I get a ...

"24 bit second stage crack detect -> 494"

followed by ...

"44100/4/176400/62640816/50000000"

I recall reading about your intention to look into this but can't recall reading if you did in any of the recent release notes.

No issues if I disable DAP.

Can make that track available if you need for testing.

It is a rather dynamic album too, and that first track would wake the dead when it starts ... haha

Cheers,

Russ ( the one with a permanent smile everytime XXHE fires up  yahoo)
290  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: No XP support yet with 0.9y-6 on: February 23, 2010, 05:03:15 am
FYI ...

Got around to putting 0.9y-6 on my study PC that runs WinXP (onboard M/B sound via SP/DIF to external receiver) , and got it all running fine using KS Special Mode after setting heaps of samples.

Device Buffer Size needed setting to 2048 , and Q1 slider at 30. With those settings I can run both DAP or QAP without glitches.

Listening to some Eric Bibb "Painting Signs" as I type this. very happy

Cheers,

Russ

And Russ, did you check for the lot being bit perfect ? I mean, don't be disappointed if it isn't.

I am *not* implying that what you have running, can't be. I just didn't go lower than 5 samples myself because I thought it would be rediculous. So, I stay on 22, and know you might have better sound. Why not, haha.

In both (un)attended modes i can have the Q1 slider at -2 ( 1 sample ) and play back my 48kHz DTS encoded albums fine Happy

hey Peter ...

in the release notes for 0.9y-6 you make mention that with Special Mode and a latency of 2 samples that
Quote
nothing will be able to bear that. This is not window breaking, but a nasty sound anyway.

I would have to disagree on that point .. haha

With the Device Buffer Size set at 48, I have my system running at 1 sample ( Q1 slider at -3 , and the tool tip indicates a parameter of -4 !?!? ) in  attended mode and everything sounds fantastic.

In fact I've been running with the Q1 slider at -1 in Special Mode using Unattended most of the afternoon. The only change to previous procedures has been to untick "Start Engine#3 during conversion", otherwise I get a few clicks etc until things settle down.

I'm really enjoying what i'm hearing with KS and it's ultra low latency.

Bravo !!

Now then , any tips as to what the numbers in my X3PB log are referring to ??

oh BTW ... might be an idea to put a trap in the code to stop someone from trying to run with Q1 slider at -4 in Special Mode. It might save wear and tear on the reset button Grin

293  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: 9Y-6 special mode -- Juli@ X3PB log on: February 17, 2010, 05:42:18 pm
hey there Peter,

a quick question about the contents of a typical X3PB log I have here ( see below ). In my setting I have chosen the CH34 ( digital ) entry from those available, and the log seems to indicate that it found it OK, yet a following line indicates XXHE is using the CH1234 output, which as far as I understand, is the combined analogue and digital entry.

Is this just a quirk of the drivers perhaps? The output comes from the SPDIF, so in that regard everything seems to be working as expected.

thanks,

Russ

the main one, with the x-fi

it becomes totally unresponding, while the music flows. the only fix is to power off (reset isnt enough).

very, very weird.

You're not alone in your observations ...

295  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Lynx AES 16 KS errors on XP 0.9y-5-05 on: February 13, 2010, 08:55:56 am
FYI ...

Updated the existing 0.9y-5-04 running on my study PC ( using Win XP ), with the 0.9y-5-06 files, and everything seems to behave after a quick setup. Haven't done extensive testing on that system but if fires up and I get sound, so I'll conclude that there is no inherent issue with this version running under WinXP.

Cheers,

Russ
296  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: 0.9y-5-05 on: February 11, 2010, 06:55:03 am
On a final note, there is a big difference in CPU usage between Q1=0 and Q1=-1. The former is quite constant, the latter is full of periodic peaks and troughs...

I've found that to be true also with 0.9y-5-06 ( didn't get around to trying 5-05 ). In fact any Q1 setting below +2 effectively removes any meaningful control of the system until the queued tracks have completed. Mouse and keyboard are dead weights. Lowering Thread Priority helps a little but then I get a lot of stutters and distortion when it first starts playing the queue. After the initial processing stage things then sound OK.

Although 5-06 nows plays seamlessly from one track to the next, an Alt-N while in UNattended mode will bring forth an "XXEngine3.exe has stopped working" message.

Will continue playing.

Cheers,

Russ

Hi Roy,

have you tried going back to a Restore Point prior to the time you installed that software you mentioned?

I assume you've looked at all the options under the "users" tab in control panel.

Good luck!

298  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: 9y--504 DacMagic USB no sound on: February 09, 2010, 06:29:18 am
XP is completely different on this matter (beats me why).

FYI ...

0.9y-5-04 works fine for KS on my study PC that runs WinXP. The motherboard is a Gigabyte P35-DS3 that uses the AL C889A chipset. I use the Toslink output to an external receiver.

Q1 needs to be at +5 or above if you wish to avoid the artists sounding like Cylons Grin

There is no interruption between tracks, either in attended or UNattended. I have file split size set at 50MB.

The output device displays as "KS: Realtek HD Audio output >> #rearlineoutwave3"

Quick report here before I head off to  sleeping

Using Chesky Records "The Ultimate Demonstration Disc" as test album.

DAP in use.

Using K/S SPDIF output (Juli@ ver 1.21 drivers), I can operate with Q1 as low as -4 but this requires buffer latency size of 128 samples or less. As the buffer size is raised, so too must the Q1 setting.  If the buffer size is raised to 256 samples I get no sound until Q1 is raised to -1 or above. Buffer size of 512 requires Q1 at 0 or above. Nothing is apparently in error at these settings from a sound quality perspective, but it's late here and I can't have the volume up at normal daytime levels. I shall reserve judgement on overall SQ for a day or so.

The issue I do have though is that at the end of each track I get kicked out of UNattended mode back to the GUI interface. Simply clicking PLAY will resume playback at the next track. I've tried various changes to Split File Size & latency buffers etc. but haven't found any magical setting that keeps play going across tracks. In one instance the music stopped midtrack and kicked me back to the GUI, but that occurred when I had split file size set at 150MB. I usually have it at 100MB.

Will continue playing.

Thanks Peter

Wanted to test if any sounds come on, but can't think of a way to induce a windows error (nothing fatal) to test it.

Try plugging in/removing a USB memory stick. The "bing-bong" system alert you get doing that should test whether your new muting setup is working.
