From the Control Panel/Sounds icon you should see a tab that sets the PC's sound scheme. Change it to No sounds. In addition, you can MUTE the Volume control in your system tray. XXHE uses exclusive mode for its playback, and that MUTE button is a good way to check if things are behaving as designed. If you click the MUTE button and XXHE sound disappears, something is wrong.

Give that a try for starters.

... but then he is a hot headed Australian (hi Russ love).

haha ... I must have come across as a right old grumpy bastard with that post, but wasn't the intention, so apologies to you easternlethal if it seemed that way. A pet peeve of mine is the apparent lack of not using the search engine in any fora. Your question must have been asked before I had my daily dose of Vegemite Grin

Maybe I should not believe in everything coming from Gates & Co.

haha .... those words of wisdom have held true for many a year !

Roy ( AUDIODIDAKT ) is the only other user with a Juli@ running W7 x64 that I'm aware of but I think he's in the same boat as you in being restricted to analogue only under KS.

My only other suggestion would be to visit ESI's drivers archives and painstakingly try each in turn. Ya never know what might turn up, although perhaps that is what Roy has already done.

Happy hunting!

Cheers,

Russ

G'day Thorwald, and
Welcome !

Have you tried the old ver 1.21 drivers as mentioned here .....

http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=1063.msg9015#msg9015

In my Win7 32bit environment, the standard 1.05 drivers ( and I presume the later 1.07 ) don't show a SPDIF out option under KS, but those 1.21 drivers do. Perhaps you will have success under 64bit O/S also.

Cheers,

Russ

Does anyone have a complete list of keyboard commands for XXhighend by any chance??

sigh ...... YES !!!!!

Please get in the habit of using the search function here.

Cheers,

oh .... BTW ...

And with all the Juli@ capabilities like Direct Wire that I don't understand won't I ever get digital out of the Juli@ with Engine4 like I can with Engine3?

Have you seen this post .... http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=1063.msg9015#msg9015

Contains some old drivers that Peter found after some digging that works under Win7 to give digital output via Engine#4.

Not tried it under Vista yet though so you can be the guinea pig if that's the OS you use.

The subject of analogue vs digital is something you can experiment with. If you have an external DAC of better quality than what is onboard the Juli@ then it is likely a better choice to go the SPDIF route. If not, then analogue will likely give better results. Like most things audio, the individual needs to try all options.

Have fun experimenting,

Russ

It runs with no errors and no sound but I believe that's because I have not connected my interconnects to the analog outputs on the card.  I assume that the device KS: Juli@ Audio >> # esi_wave1 is for the analog outputs.  If not someone please tell me what this device refers to.

Engine3 in 0.9-y501 under Vista with my Juli@ works fine and I have sound through my usual Juli@ digital outputs.

Bring up the Juli@ control panel from the system tray. If you are seeing VU meter activity on analogue output you should be right to go after you connect to the RCA output sockets.

My music server is busy at the moment transferring music from reel-to-reel tapes under Vista partition ( where I don't have latest build installed ) so I can't check, but that # esi_wave1 option sounds right from memory.

Return about usage of  0.9y-500 :

On wav files : doesn't work with error message : "Failed write to pin"
On flac and mp3 files :  partially work, but not enable to naturally skip to next track.

G'day Christophe,

When I got the same error message initially, Peter suggested lowering the file split size until it worked, which it eventually did.

It also wouldn't harm in grabbing the 0.9y-5-01 update while you are at it and give it a try. Probably won't help for your particular errors but ya never know.

When you have a moment, may I suggest you copy your system text as you described, and paste it into the signature area in your profile. Makes it easier for diagnosis in the future if hardware and signal paths are laid out for all to see.

Russ
309  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Help with Kernel Streaming 0.9y-5-01 on: January 18, 2010, 05:36:55 am

1) Sound stopped with an "Engine 3 stopped / did not start" error about halfway into a playing list (album) Wonder why it said Engine 3 and not 4 (checked that I had actually choosen KS)

I get quite a few of the Engine stopped messages ( using KS ) if I do much else on the PC other than just let it play. It is not as robust currently in that regard compared to Engine#3.

Per ... that message about seeing Engine#3 mentioned rather than Engine#4 when you expect it is normal. Engine#4 is embedded within the Engine#3 file and the system doesn't know any better.

Russ

Got it working on SPDIF out now  Happy

Note: It needed the 0.9y-5-01 update though for the KS devices to appear.

Back to comparing apples and apples !

313  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: Engine#3 Vs Engine#4 comparison on: January 17, 2010, 02:45:00 am

And those who expressed so far have to deal with apples and oranges.

Well here we are at another day, with a new set of alpha waves coursing through the head, and a few more pieces of fruit to mix in with the apples and oranges !

I'm having a hard time coming to any definite conclusion now as to what sounds better in my setup. While remaining within the Windows7 environment, I've been flipping between Engine#3 (both analogue and digital output from the Juli@ card) and Engine#4 (restricted to analogue only), and trying different combinations of None/Double/Quad sampling with/without Arc Predictor, together with Q2/Q3 set to 30/30 or 0/0.

When using Engine#4 I'm tending towards settings of Q2/Q3 at 0/0 and having NO sampling engaged.

When using Engine#3 I'm tending to remain with the Double/AP together with Q2/Q3 at 30/30, and may have a subconscious factor at play here as that is what I've been using for some months now under Vista.

Now, this inability to get a definitive preference may be due to the processor I use having a global influence, limiting the effects on anything connected upstream. Certainly connecting either analogue or digital would bring into being different internal routes within the processor.

Regardless of my ability to come to a conclusion, it all sounds great !

I'll play the devils advocate here for a moment and pose the question whether or not subconscious thoughts are influencing our preferences for one engine over another, or that one set of parameters is better than the other. One sure way to come to an answer to that would be to have someone else make the parameter changes without your knowledge of what has been changed ( if anything ) and evaluate each set of changes on their merits. In essence, doing some blind testing.

Cheers all,

Russ

I have just tried Russī link (it recommends unplugging the PC), and it has worked! Thanks a lot!

Isn't life full of wonderful surprises  grazy

Glad to read it all worked out.

Now .. go have fun !

You might need to think about it the other way. Your USB controller on the motherboard might have failed. This prevented XXHighEnd from accessing the drive and the program crashed. You still can't use any USB devices because the controller is still bad. Do you connect the drive and devices to a front USB port on the computer? I have read that some of these are not grounded very well and with dry winter weather (at least where I live) you can get static electricity problems when you go to plug in a USB device.

This is a possible cause also. Some of the earlier Intel chipsets were susceptible to physical USB controller failure caused by static discharges. It is important to always try and use the "clean" disconnect routine when dealing with USB devices. Simply unplugging an active USB is not ideal.

Cheers,

Russ
