ps Calibratr mentioned a thread way back when that has some cmd line to get rid of the bloat wear in Vista..any idea off the top of your head where it is?

Hi Andy,

the batch job is attached at the bottom of this post ...

http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=548.msg4331#msg4331

If you look at the first post in that thread and read all the way thru you'll be as geeky as many of us at the end .. LOL

Thanks Peter  thankyou

I've just done some experimenting with different schemes and found that scheme's 2, 3 and 4 had an even greater disruptive effect to the initial playback. Scheme 4 in particular would even get to the stage where , once the GUI was removed and the desktop was replaced with the folder art, the music would have stopped entirely, and there was no sign of the red OSD. It was as if a too greater time has elapsed and Engine3 has 'lost its way'.

Decompressing MP3's seems to have a greater influence than playing FLAC's.

Russ

G'day Peter,

I've noticed that in the initial play process when in unattended mode, that while the actual music files are being converted to the UnicodeTrackxxxx.wav's, AND the GUI is still onscreen, that an audible glitch occurs every time the red progress counter ( which has begun by now ) clicks over to a new second. I have the tick in the 'Start Engine3 during conversion' as you would expect from the above. This glitch was not noticeable prior to the introduction of the OSD progress counter. When converting a long album of MP3's ( for example ) it even stalls the playback momentarily.

Would you consider delaying the presentation of the OSD progress timer until the GUI has disappeared from view? Presumably by then all the conversion work has completed. It may also mean that whenever the GUI is visible that the progress timer should not be.

I'm using scheme-1 .. perhaps this has an impact also.

Cheers,

Russ

only thing:after pressing next on my "remote control" the task bar comes back with apps and Start button, then it all disappears again and the display is away for some tenths of a second. Is this normal? Because when I don't press next, but wait until the next song start automatically to play nothing of this happens, just a little hickup.

I see this sequence also, and I assume it is working as intended. When you use the 'remote' function you are presumably interupting what XXEngine3 is doing and requesting what is essentially a new restart point, so things which happened initially at start of play are basically re-run again in preparation before play recommences.

Am I close Peter ?

This is solved now in 0.9x-5b.

Seems to work as intended here now  Good job !

Cheers,

Russ

BTW .... if you _need_ to run something else while in this mode, you can still access your 'Start' menu by pressing the "WINDOWS" key on your keyboard. Normally located on the bottom left somewhere.

"Last thing, though rather important : The real merits for SQ can only be obtained when the Q2/Q3/Q4/Q5 sliders are all set to 0 ! (Q1 is unrelated..."
from release notes for 9x-5

What does this mean?  Do you mean to say SQ is degraded by using Q2-Q5?..Do you mean we should not play/use them?

My impressions are that Q2 & Q3 are still very beneficial. I commenced my listening with 0.9x-5 with the latter sliders set at 0 as suggested but something sounded amiss from what I had been used to hearing during the last month or so since they were introduced. Restoring them back to 30/30 , which I had previously been using, brought back the clarity and articulation I had become accustomed to hearing. I'm leaving them there!

I notice from your signature that your running Aural Organs. What version are they, pre or post 1960?  Happy

They were made in England circa late '52 and exported to OZ in early '59. The upper frequency response has waned a little over the years but are generally holding up quite well  sounds good !

(sure wish I knew how to take a screen shot....):

If you look to the top right of your keyboard you will see a key labelled 'Print Screen' ( or similar ). It is normally written above a secondary function ( in the case of the keyboard I'm typing this on it is marked 'Sys Rq' ), and this implies you need to hold down the 'Shift' key for it work.

If you now hold down the shift key and press that 'Print Screen' key you should get an image of the screen copied to your clipboard buffer.

Now open up the Paint program ( normally found in the Accessories section under All Programs ), and you will be presented with a blank canvas. If you now select the 'Paste' function under the 'Edit' menu at the top, you should see your screen dump appear. From here you can simply 'Save As' a .jpg file. Paint was some rudimentary editing functions if you wish to further 'Cut & Paste' specific sections of your screen dump. I use Photoshop for that though and can also be used in the initial 'Paste' to grab that clipboard buffer.

What are your both exact OS versions ?

Just plain 'ol Vista Ultimate 32bit edition and NO services packs have been installed.

I've tried different themes etc. to see if that makes any difference but hasn't as yet.

1280 x 800 desktop res.

I had already disabled a number of unwanted services as per the earlier thread ( mid last year I suppose it would have been ). Perhaps that is interferring with things.

0.9x-5 sounds great though   Happy

445  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: 0.9x-3 -- minor bugs on: March 21, 2009, 10:46:45 am
Hi Peter,

just reporting that this "Show CoverArt" bug is still occurring in 0.9x-5 ( as it did in 0.9x-4 also). Same message structure.

If I leave the coverart at 17 x 17 pixels after the initial error, the bug doesn't re-occur ( from what I can recall ), but that kinda defeats the purpose of that slider then.

The folderart slider works fine still.

Cheers,

Russ

I also have the tiny START button segment remaining when the rest of the taskbar disappears. It's look is very basic and plain though, none of the colouring that is typical of a desktop theme.

Perhaps of note is that upon starting XXHE ( before any play functions are done ), the system tray disappears immediately from the taskbar. The system tray can be returned to normal by dragging the taskbar to double height. You can then reduce it to single height again.

447  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: 0.9x-4 -- last track being played twice on: March 06, 2009, 06:49:37 am

Can it be so that you changed the volume or Invert during that last track ?
I have been testing it tonight, but can't let it go wrong. However, the other day with the endless repeat I did change volume ...

No changes during the playing of those albums as I was in unattended mode as normal  Happy

I presume the question is related to the addition of the "Read , Read , Intended Change 2" text at the bottom of XXDat001.dao file ?

I've been playing several albums here today and everything is behaving itself, so this may well be another timing issue of some sort. Will continue to monitor and if it happens again will try and note any other activities on the PC I was doing at the time.

448  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: WiFi Remote on: March 06, 2009, 06:32:02 am
Although I haven't spent much words on the WiFi remore business in the 0.9x-4 release notes, I can imagine a 100 questions.
On the other hand, maybe nobody owns a WiFi remote.

hehe .. I can imagine at least that many!

For the last few weeks I have been dabbling with the remote functionality using an early ( pre-commercial ) version of Girder interfacing via a little IrMan serially connected ( COM1 ) infrared receiver. By using the CD assigned buttons on my Integra processor remote, I have been able to control XXHE quite effectively when in "attended' mode. Because Girder needs to see a "window" to which it will assign its keystroke equivalents, the remote functionality doesn't work when in unattended mode, as the GUI window has now disappeared.

Girder and the Irman receiver is how I have been controlling, for many years now, TheaterTek via my IR Philips Pronto remote device ( the very first model they produced!)

When I have some spare time ( ie. not dedicated listening to music .. hehe ) I will try and see if I can marry Girders output to this new WiFi way of doing things.

Peter, I think a wider acceptance of remote functionality would have a bigger participation if users could use one of the many IR remotes we seem to accumulate, and interface that somehow via a receiver similar to the IrMan.

I must admit knowing very little about the remote you are using. Perhaps some further words and pictures may be helpful in demonstrating exactly how it all fits together. It all seems like black magic and voodoo at the moment .. LOL.

449  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / 0.9x-4 -- last track being played twice on: March 05, 2009, 03:36:53 pm
Hi Peter,

On at least 2 occassions now with ver 0.9x-4, the last track from a playlist has been played twice. I noticed it earlier this afternoon when I sat down to have a dedicated listen to this new version, and again just now. It may also have happened again in between those times when playing in the background but I didn't notice if it did.

I have some screen shots which may be of some help in the absense of log files, which I didn't have active at the time. If you  need some logging I will turn that on. Just say the word.

The first screen dump shows the contents of the two key *.dao files and the !Played.PLXX file. The last two dumps show the recently created files sorted by creation date and modified date. Hopefully they will assist in visualising the order things were created.

On another note, the "CoverArt bug" I reported about recently in 0.9x-3 re-occurred shortly after running 0.9x-4 for the first session. In this instance though, I was still running with the default thread and player priorities in the settings page ( ie. NOTHING ). When amended to my normal settings of PlayerPri(BelowNorm), ThreadPri(High) I haven't had that CoverArt bug re-occur. Will keep fingers crossed Happy

Cheers,

Russ the bug hunter.

BTW .. you may want to remove the "tooltip" about the Q Control not being implemented yet when you hover the mouse over the Q control tab.

450  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: "the back" of the CD is shown on: February 23, 2009, 10:37:59 am
After mulling over this for a day I reckon it's one of several possible indicators.

First choice is an indicator of how advanced into the track you are positioned. You start off with a white square and it gets darker the further in you progress until it shows black at the end.

Second idea is that the two different colours represented whether you were in attended or unattended mode, but I kinda figured you should know that anyway!

Another idea is it indicates the level of transparency for the "back" of the CD when not using actual covertart. Since these pictures both show covertart in use it's difficult to tell on this one.

Could also be font colour for when the "back" is in use.

Am I getting warmer huh Peter ??

Cheers,

Russ
