Gooden Morgen Peter,

this intermediate version has resolved the network issue now thank you  Happy

A couple of other bugs I think are there ( I know you just love bug fixing  smirk )

The first is with the new "rename to folder.jpg" function. It doesn't seem to work consistently here. I'm trying to figure out the underlying cause of it not working 100% of the time but I think it's related to the file being locked by another program somehow. Maybe XXHE itself. Will report back on this one.

Has anyone tried this rename function and found similar issues ?

The second relates to restarting XXHE after the tracks specified within the current playlist file are no longer in their original folder when XXHE is restarted the next time. An error message requesting a bug report be send to micro$oft comes up straight away and you have no option to continue. XXHE simply shuts down. The only way I could get XXHE to behave itself was to delete the '!CurrentlyPlaying.PLXX' file from where XXHE executable resides.

If you need further info just holla.

Cheers,

In the mean time, when you assign a drive letter to that reference it will work.

Yep ... just confirming if I "map a network drive" it works here too  Happy

Good luck chasing down the quirky network issue!

Russ

Peter,

I've sent a series of screen dumps and system dumps to your email address ( too big to attached here ).

If you need further info just holla.

Russ, I need a hand here; I tried everything I could think of, but on an XP machine over the network to the Vista where the data is ... everything works here (including asking for the contents of an info.txt etc.).

But keep in mind my remark about the Share Name. Maybe you recall what that was about ?

G'day Peter,

I've just woken for the day and I'll get some screen shots and system dumps ready later this morning to send.

To refresh your memory, the earlier issue I had with the share name was resolved by replacing the blanks I had been using in the name with underscores ( _ ).

The issue I am having now occurs even when accessing albums from a network drive having a single character as a share name , ex. 'C'

One thing I did notice late last night was that going from my laptop to my study PC, whenever I used the 'library' button ( top left side ) to access an album folder that had a .txt file within it, I had a system exception message come up and subsequent checking of the system management logs ( event viewer/application ) indicated that .net had suffered an error. The timing of the log entry coincided with the crash in XXHE.

I'll work on the bug report after my morning cuppa and get back asap.

Thanks mate,

Russ

Hi Peter,

fantastic job you're doing on the coverart processing. It adds a nice new level of ergonomics to the viewing of all the embedded extra info that some of us like to keep for our albums. thankyou

Would you consider adding an extra function to the rightclick options when in the rightmost panel? It would be nice to have a specific "rename to Folder.jpg" function available in addition to the "rename" function currently available. I could imagine that most would only use the rename function to change an item to "Folder.jpg" so it will save a lot of typing and speed up the process of tidying up all our coverart.

I have also found a small bug I think when accessing album folders across my LAN. If a folder ( or the folder above ) contains files with a ".txt" extension ( there may be other types ), an exception window is brought up complaining that the value of _files path_ is not valid for 'filePath'. This happens under XP , I haven't tried it under Vista yet. If you can't duplicate it in your environment I will post a screen shot of the message later for you.

Users ... they always find a way ...  Wink

Cheers,

Russ

Update: the bug happens under Vista also

I have downloaded it, but I get "Unrecognized WAV header data'' as error message. Tried it twice but the problem is still there.

G'day Leo,

I'm not a huge fan of NIN, but I grabbed the smallest of the tracks ( the first ), and I got the same error message as you experienced.

I cleansed the track by running it through dBPowerAmp ( simply perform a "convert to WAV" function ) and XXHE was then happy.

Give that a try if you haven't resolved the problem by yourself yet.

Cheers,

Russ

It's late over here and I've just spent about 6 hours having a "guitar" evening but wanted to quickly post something before I headed off to  sleeping sleeping

During this listening session I can't recall hearing any clicks, pops, crackles or squeaks that sounded out of place amongst the many albums I listened to, so I can conclude that this version has fixed those anomolies for me. The only changes I've made to my settings has been to raise the 'player priority' from below normal to above normal, and re-establish virtual memory. All other settings are unaltered as per my signature.

I really enjoy the dynamics and clarity this version reveals, and I wanted to fully explore the new abilities, hense my settling in to an evening of guitar works of different genre's.

My foot was a tappin' and my hand was a slappin' throughout the night as I played some of my favourite artists, and finished off with a truly fabulous album with Charlie Byrd, Tal Farlow & Herb Ellis called "Great Guitars of Jazz". Recorded at a live venue in  1974, these three elder statesmen of jazz guitar put on a very memorable and entertaining performance, and I cannot recommend it highly enough. If you see it at your local retailer just grab it .. you won't be disappointed.

Another nice version here Peter, and I've got another couple of aussie dollars waiting to chip in  Grin

Night all,

Russ

Hehe Russ, I know it's getting late out there,

... and all these numbers are going to ensure I stay awake for many more hours trying to digest it all ... LOL

But, the good news is, the latest engine you just posted works fine good

I can have my DAC setting at any value and it still works as expected.

I really appreciate you working on this during your Sunday morning over there  thankyou

I hope nothing got broken in the existing coding in your quest to solve my problem.

A bit more surfing on DTS encoding then its off to  sleeping sleeping sleeping sleeping for me.

Cheers,

Russ
506  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: DTS WAV playback broken from 0.9-u4 onwards on: March 30, 2008, 02:52:10 pm
hmmmm ... now you have me wondering and thinking !

The way I produce my DTS wav's is to extract the surround tracks ( normally from DVD-Audio discs ) using magic, and then split them into their individual 6 channel's, and then, if needed, convert down to 24/48 streams. These 6 channels then get fed into SurCode DVD DTS specifying 48KHz output format.

Now then, the 1536kbps that I'm seeing on my processor status indicates that its seeing a 32/48 stream ( 32 x 48 = 1536 ) which hopefully suggests that the input files that make up the DTS wav's were padded to 32 bit as part of the encoding process. A worse scenario would be that those 24 bit input channels are getting cut back to 16 bits but that wouldn't make sense.

So, my referring to my DTS files as 24/48 may not strictly be true if they are being padded/chopped somehow in the final encoding process.

I need more time to follow up on this one methinks.

Regardless, they still sound very nice Happy

Cheers,

Russ

That would still be a nice to have situation rather than having to change back each time I want to play DTS files but its no real drama now.

Yeah, but ... Apart from that I will make it work as should (being : it not being necessary to set the DAC to 44.1/16), does your receiver show that it's capturing 24 bits ? I hardly can imagine that, but I also can't imagine me making 16 bits of a 24 bit file and your DTS decoding still works ...

When playing back DTS encoded files, my receiver only shows the total bit rate ( 1411 or 1536 kbps ) together with the frequency ( 44.1 or 48KHz ). When playing back under 0.9U-10 I was seeing 1536/44.1 rather than the expected 1536/48 which was confirmed by the slowing of the playback sound.

This new engine now shows 1536/48 as I normally would expect to see.

For 2 channel files my receiver shows the bits anywhere 16 and 24 together with sample frequency of anywhere between 44.1 and 96.

This one should work better. Indeed the Mem box doesn't help (as far as I can see).
I couldn't check 24 bit files.

That new engine has restored correct 24/48 DTS encoded WAV playback with one small difference to how things occurred in 0.9U-9.

My DAC settings now need to be set at 16/44.1 instead of the 24/96 I normally have it set at. That would still be a nice to have situation rather than having to change back each time I want to play DTS files but its no real drama now.

Mem box ticked or unticked didn't seem to have any effect of these files either ie. both settings worked.

Thanks for ya quick response Peter  Happy

Russ

Btw, in any case, and from theory, it is better to try everything with the Mem checkbox checked. Did you try that ?

0.9U-9 --- Just tried it again having the 'mem' box ticked and everything played back fine just as it did when unticked ( which was how I was testing things before.

I also tried tried the 'mem' box ticked for version 0.9U-10 and it didn't help for that ie. still played slowly.

I just tried 0.9U-9 and everything works fine for the DTS files in that version !

Are you sure that counts for 48/24 just the same ? (or 24 bits in general)

yep ... both 16/44.1 and 24/48 DTS encoded WAV's play back fine. Exhibits the same playback functionality as 0.9U-7. ie. I have my DAC set at 24/96 in the settings, with 'crack detect' ticked and Vol at zero.

Also tried some 24/96 2 channel files and they worked fine also ( but haven't had time to see if the little 'click' still occurs at start of files .. but I think I read that will stil be the case )

Cheers,

Russ
