61  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Now cover Art on: January 29, 2012, 02:02:42 am
This seems to be a little tricky. How do I load the cover art for all albums?

Firstly, you must have a 'folder.jpg' in the album folder where your music files are stored. There are variations are this location, but if you start with having the folder.jpg together with the music files it will keep it simply initially.

Secondly, you need to create your 'Gallery' structure, which may not be the case at the moment judging by your earlier question.

Once you have your Galleries created, XXHE can be instructed to show all albums contained within the Gallery, or you can navigate down to subfolders within the Gallery that you have created, which are typically set up as genres of music type.

Cheers,

Russ

2.  I have 2 network drives where my music lives.  How do i load both drives  X:  and Y:?

The 'Gallery' function will organise your music folders spread across various disc drives and allow you to merge them into one entity(s) if you wish. The 'Gallery' is in essense a collection of pointers to where the files are physically stored, and once the gallery is created, you no longer have to remember where your different files are stored.

Some users have set up folders within the gallery to denote the different music genres, eg, Country & Western, Jazz, Rock, Classical etc. When you add new albums to your drives, you then decide which of the genres each belongs in , and point to those gallery folders when you create the actual gallery entry for each new album.

A search through the forum will assist.

It may also be prudent to "map" your network drives X: & Y: so they always appear on reboot of your system.

Cheers for now and welcome to the forum Happy

Sometimes my DAC has problems to synchronize with the incoming signal (SPDIF) timely and a small part of the track is missing.

G'day Georg,

are you certain the trouble in with your DAC and not XXHE itself missing the first part of some tracks, which has been a problem for some in the past. A search through the forum should bring up the discussions. I can't recall the exact remedy, if there was a specific cause, but those discussions may suggest avenues to try.

What time period are the missing pieces? In the order of a second or two , or perhaps just a momentary glitch?

I noticed you list your Jui@ card as "modded". Perhaps that "mod" is causing the issue ?

Cheers for now,

Russ

G'day Claudius ...

at first glance I would be thinking the system isn't fast enough to be able to process all the data before it's needed to fill the NOS buffers.

To help reduce the time needed to process that data, first drastically reduce the SFS and see if that helps. Reducing the Q1 value will also reduce CPU requirements.

Have task manager running in the background displaying the CPU graphs, to see the effect the above two changes have.

You may need to balance the Player/Thread priority a little different also, but try starting with the above before looking further afield.

Good luck,

Russ
65  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: XXHighend does not allow higher sample rates on: January 09, 2012, 01:14:52 am
I will send this topic to someone using the Juli@ definitely. He may be asleep right now though.

Indeed he was Happy

Forget about all those later drivers .. been there .. done that .. none work! You need v0.978 from ( http://download.esi-audio.com/?p=6&g=0&l=en )

I have buffers/samples in the Juli@ control panel set at 48 (as per my signature).

I can't remember what I have the system sounds parameters set at (via control panel), as all the appropriate background processes have been prevented from starting in my system, but I don't think it matters much what they were set to anyway.

BTW ... you will then see within the KS options in XXHE, three choices. The first should be the analogue ports, the second will be digital, and the third will be combination of both.

Cheers,

Russ
66  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: 176,400 HiRes Problem on: October 26, 2011, 12:30:31 pm
I have the same problem! It happens when trying to play SACD PS3 rips converted to WAV 24/176.4 by Foobar plug-in.
In the past I did not have this problem with my Rolling Stones 24/176.4 Flac files purchased from HDTracks.

If you haven't already tried, you should find Weiss Saracon will do a much better job of conversion than the current Foobar plugin.

Extract the individual DSD files first from the rip, then use Saracon for convert to WAV using TPDF dithering option.

Cheers,

Russ

I think the 246 is one of the best looking cars ever made...

Indeed !

If I ever win the lottery , both the 246GT(S) and the car below, would be the first of my long held aspirations to own.

Now it could be argued that a 7-year old NSX is not a true classic, but I believe it will be in time.

You need have no fear of the NSX not becoming a classic in it's own right also. Some mighty fine engineering went into its development, and Honda should be justifiably proud of their achievements .... a reliable and ergonomic supercar hey ... who would have thought Happy

I'm sure you have a grin from ear to ear when you take it out on that one fine Sunday morning that England serves up now and then Wink Going for a fang around Isle of Man must be idyllic.

They don't make cars like they used to... thankfully.

There would be some who would argue against that statement Mani  Grin

hey Peter ....

don't forget the Android fanboi's amongst us Happy

Android is now the dominant force in tablets and only set to get moreso with the likes of announcements from Amazon with their Kindle Fire ( http://www.amazon.com/Kindle-Fire-Color/dp/B0051VVOB2 ).

I think you will have a far bigger uptake of users going for remote control if you cater for Android based tablets (and phones).

Happy to report that all is well here so far with cover art processing under 0.9z-6-1 Happy

The 'unattended' running time progress bar also seems to be behaving itself now.

G'day Hein and  Welcome !

Peter is probably tucked up in bed at the moment dreaming of more ways to improve XXHE, so in the interim, may I suggest you try using engine#4, and set to Special Mode. Make sure the buffers are set to the same as the 'driver' within Windows itself if possible.

Also, as you haven't mentioned specifically in your signature, make sure you have the 'DAC is' parameter set to 24/192.

If none of that helps it is likely the soundcard itself that is the issue. I seem to recall others having issues with that, so search through the forum here for any occurrences.

Russ
72  Ultimate Audio Playback / Music Storage and convenient playback / Re: I say NO to SSD for music playback. on: October 04, 2011, 03:23:42 pm
No furteher comments Russ. I would have when you used the Jui@ herself.

That is something I have been meaning to try but never got around to do. It's more a convenience issue. I would have to unplug a pair of RCA leads going to the amp everytime I wanted to use the music server and switch back to another set coming from the Integra when I wanted to use the HTPC. I have a gut feeling the DAC in the Integra is better than what is onboard the Juli@, but I suppose until I try it I will be left wondering. I had thought of looking for a RCA switcher, but I try and avoid needless devices in the chain.

SPDIF isn't the very best for digital transport,

and when using i2s you will be hearing a lot more of what's really going on.
I would expect so from what I have read about the interface.

I'm not dismissing your thoughts about HDD vs SSD completely. All I'm saying is that in my current environment, I can't discern any meaningful difference in sound quality.

With a USB NOS1 in my system the difference may well be more obvious.

73  Ultimate Audio Playback / Music Storage and convenient playback / Re: I say NO to SSD for music playback. on: October 04, 2011, 02:12:38 pm
But I have a question for Russ :
You output directly from the Juli@, right ?

I don't use the Juli@ as a DAC per se, but rather the mechanism to provide the SPDIF output. As per my signature, I take a 75ohm coax direct feed straight from the coupling transformer on the Juli@ card, and then straight into an SPDIF input of the Integra processor, which does the DAC duties. See attached piccie.

Have you got some other idea to improve on that perhaps ?

Cheers,

Russ

Just came across this: http://www.auraliti.com/

Auraliti have some interesting graphs showing that SSDs have higher inherent noise than HDDs!

Both seem to benefit from the SOtM SATA filter.

Mani.

I didn't come to that conclusion judging by the low-res graphs depicted, and their statement that ....

"System cost can be reduced because now a spinning hard drive (HDD) can achieve similar
low electronic noise performance to that of a Solid State Drive (SSD)."

... would suggest to the contrary.

Without clearly seeing the scale used in each of the graphs, one can't compare between them reliably. If they had shown the noise floor of an UNfiltered HDD and an UNfiltered SSD together, then that would have more meaning. As it stands now, I just view those graphs as mere marketing.

Regs,

Russ

Could someone attempt to explain technically why SSD sounds worse than a HD?

I'd just like to add that this notion is not supported by myself currently.

Cheers,

Russ
