1  Ultimate Audio Playback / Phasure NOS1 DAC / Re: B'ASS Current Amplifier on: January 28, 2017, 06:02:19 pm
I'm sure it is something to look forward to, as I am doing now! Thanks for the update Peter.

Peter,

I must admit, I'm confused! Is the B'ASS 4.1 an ongoing upgrade to the G3, or are they two different options? Also when is the ETA for the first batches of G3/4.1?

Thanks,
Paul

Great news Peter! Please put me on the list for the G3.

Peter,

Re the G3, I am currently outputting my NOS1a via XLR to an electrostatic headphone amp and Stax SR009 headphones. If I have the G3 upgrade, will this still be safe to do? (I understood this was not possible with the external B'ASS box). I'm hoping so, but await your opinion before ordering.

5  Ultimate Audio Playback / Music Storage and convenient playback / TerraMaster 3/4/5 bay external HDD enclosure on: December 12, 2016, 02:17:35 pm
http://www.terra-master.com/html/en/article_read_1173.html

Anybody using one of these? (they offer 3, 4 or 5 bay cases leading to 24GB/32GB/40GB of storage). Looks like an attractive option for me as my music collection is ever expanding Grin and I waste a lot of money on a larger HDD every 6 months.

Peter,

Thanks for your help, I've sorted those problem folders. Now for the others!

Peter,

Ok here are a couple of random ones. First the XXHE error messages and then the Explorer file contents screenshot:

8  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Album folder content do's and dont's on: October 16, 2016, 03:22:23 pm
About 90% of my music plays fine without problems on XXHE. Usually such an album folder will have the following typical content:
01.wav (or 01.flac)
02,03,04,05 etc
album.cue
album.txt
album.jpg

But now and then, some albums won't play or even load at all, even though the music is in wav or flac format. So I suspect it is something to do with some other files that may or may not be in the same folder.

Are there any guidelines on what files should not be in an album folder, or moved to a separate sub-folder etc?

I could try and replay some problem albums to give you the error messages, there seem to be several different errors.

9  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Upsample hi-res files? on: August 29, 2016, 11:18:48 am
Mani,

Yes, agreed. I suppose I use the DR database as a first pass of which versions to avoid. As you say, a very low DR value will likely sound terrible.

Of course it is very true that quite a bit of so-called 'hi-res' files avaiable for download are nothing of the kind, just repackaged and compressed sh***y versions of Redbook. However, that's not always the case and you can find some real gems in the 24/96, 24/192 or 24/384 filesets if you are choosy. I recommend this website, you probably have seen it already, but I always use it to try to see which version is worth purchasing:

http://dr.loudness-war.info/album/list?artist=doors&album=strange+days

Interestingly, for the specific album Peter mentions (Strange Days), the 'best' i.e. highest dynamic range, version appears to be the DVD-A from Perception box set (the version Peter did not like at all). However that rating appears to be skewed by a single track with DR=21, the others are all much lower.
11  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Upsample hi-res files? on: August 27, 2016, 08:35:02 am
Does anybody here upsample hi-res files (eg 24/192) in XXHighEnd? Is there any good reason to routinely upsample such files (or to routinely not upsample them), or is just down to personal taste?

Thanks

12  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Your first RAM-OS Disk Upgrade ! 14393.0 on: August 16, 2016, 10:04:36 am
Peter,

Is there a 14393.0 version available for those of us without a RAM OS disk?

13  Ultimate Audio Playback / Phasure NOS1 DAC / NOS1a power spec? on: May 22, 2016, 10:02:57 am
Peter,

I can't find the on-board power spec for the NOS1a. Assuming it's not a trade secret of some sort, can you list it out for me please?
e.g. PSU number, groups etc.

P.S. Found a way to keep mine after all, so a very happy bunny.

Thanks, I suspected not.

Peter,

Could this B'ASS be used to feed into an electrostatic (headphone) amp?
