31  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Small Icons on: April 19, 2010, 07:46:48 pm
At some time after I started using 09-y8, all the album covers that appear in the middle section when I select an item from library became very small.  Version 09-y7 still shows them larger.  I completely reinstalled the latest 09-y8 version and still have the small icons.  I also have XXHighend on another computer, which does not display this problem, so I must have done something to my main music computer to create this problem.  Attached is a screen shot.  Any ideas?  I should add that I do not use the gallery function.  All my albums are listed by artist when I push the library button, I click on the artist and all that artist's albums appear in the middle pane.  Then I double click on the album cover and hit play.  Then I enjoy.

This problem occurs with both font sizes for me.
33  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Incomplete Playlist in 0.9y-8c on: March 22, 2010, 06:43:04 pm
I am having the same problem.  It seems to be related to the Set screen to font settings feature that was recently introduced.  If I click or move one of the resizing bars on either side of the middle pane, then all the data is shown, but every time the player reappears after playing, the data is again shortened until I once again click on one of the resizing bars.
34  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: No Wallpaper at first track in 09y_7 on: March 02, 2010, 08:23:18 pm
No wallpaper for me either- on any track.  Tried Engine 3 and 4.  The bar at bottom with quick start and start icons does appear or disappear as it should when unattended is checked.
35  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: 9Y-6 special mode on: February 14, 2010, 05:31:46 am
I am still unaware of what is meant by Special Mode vs Normal mode, but I think this version using Engine 4 is the best yet on my system.  I seem to be able to follow individual instrumental lines much better than with Engine 3 (which a month ago was the best I had ever heard).  I just don't want to stop listening.

Me too, Peter.

The downside is that I am now spending more time listening and less on my chores Happy
38  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / DAC for XXHE on: October 13, 2009, 07:28:39 pm
I am so excited about 0.9y-4 that I posted the 3 things you said were necessary for a good DAC on the Bottlehead site, where they are developing their own DAC.  Theirs will be NOS and capable of 24/192, but it will have a filter - in the words of John Swenson:

"There will be some analog filtering, carefully worked out gentle filtering after the DAC chip can radically improve the sound of a NOS DAC. This is NOT high order "brick wall" filtering that some use. The primary filter element is a high quality transformer after the DAC chip, this does a wonderful job of smoothing out the stair step from the DAC without adding other nasty effects."

How do you think this filter will affect XXHE?

I didn't even know the Brick could be upgraded to 24/96.  Since all my files are 16/44 this has not been important for me, but the new XXHE features may make it so.  As a confirmed Bottlehead, I am also waiting for their DAC kit which should do 24/96 (at least).  Either way, today I am just elated with the sound at 16/44.  This evening I spent several hours hearing my music sounding better than ever - actually got emotional about it a few times.  Today I am more impressed with XXHE than at any time since I started with it.  This new sound is that big an improvement.

Holy shamoly, Batman! Today was a wet day where I live, so I finally learned how to install and use hotkeys and upgraded to version 0.9y-4.  Using a Wavelength Brick (16/44 NOS), I cannot take advantage of the upsampling, but just out of the box this sounds better than any previous version.  Just played a little Kip Hanrahan  I have played easily over 100 times and was floored by the detail I was hearing and the vocals are to die for.  Trained the wheel button on my mouse to do ALT +X so I can come back from unattended without the keyboard at my chair (the mouse and screen are by my chair).  Thanks Peter.
41  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Question on Autohotkey Use on: March 31, 2009, 08:29:52 pm
I have yet to install autohotkey, but will do so when you get next version of player up and tested - I am still using 09X-3 ( I think).  Currently I am using a mouse to run everything and am quite satisfied.  I have a screen and mouse on a small table by my chair and can control everything and easily read the screen.  Once I have installed autohotkey and set everything to my satisfaction, will I still be able to just use a mouse to control playback?  Using the keyboard all the time will be a big inconvenience due to how I now have the hardware physically arranged.

But of course, if it improves SQ, I will operate it standing on my head :-)
42  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Setting Volume on: March 15, 2009, 04:12:20 am
I am confused by the new volume controls.  Using a 16/44  DAC, where should I set the digital volume control if I am using my preamp to control the volume?  Just having it at full as before now gives me a red signal, which is apparently a no-no.
43  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: 09-w9b problems on: January 27, 2009, 10:53:32 pm
Sorry - didn't notice the new Q tab until you mentioned it.  Had appointment with eye doctor yesterday and got new glasses to use at the computer.  Looks like I was a bit blind for a while there.
44  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / 09-w9b problems on: January 26, 2009, 08:00:17 pm
I still have no Q slider.

Also, on versions starting at 09-w7 when I move the slider I get a crack defect message - I think this is just on the albums ripped w/dbPoweramp.  And on 9-w9b if attended, the slider progresses as the music plays,  and then I get the crack message when I move and release the slider, but the slider remains at the point to which I moved it.  When unattended, the slider freezes at the point where it was when I click to get XXHighend to reappear - the music keeps playing.  And then if I try to move the slider, it moves, but when I release it, it returns to the very left end of the scale - the initial starting spot - then I get the crack detect message. During this, attended or unattended., the music keeps playing until I release the slider.  this is certainly not a priority to me - I seldom use the feature.  But I thought it might help you with other problems that may occur.
45  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / It works!! version 09-w7 solves dbpoweramp problem on: January 13, 2009, 07:06:46 pm
Thank you Peter - I know it wasn't easy.  Now I can play back unattended with crack detect enabled and get no errors or cracking.  Very nice.

I do have a question - my volume controls show red on left and green on right - using 16/44 DAC.  I just leave this alone and use my preamp volume control.  Is that correct?
