Last attempt worked and am listening as I type.  Thanks so much!

I am embarrassed. Prior to this I was copying the long number by hand from the new computer and then keying it into the email I sent you.  In so doing I made an error (for the second time) and the last activation code you sent failed to work.  So I decided to do it right this time, connected the new pc to the internet, created an email address for it, machine copied the long number, sent it to myself and compared it to the number I had hand copied yesterday, thus discovering my latest error.  I have sent you yet another email and this time the long number has to be correct - it was all copied by the computer and my feeble brain was left out of the process.  If you will please send me 1 more new activation number, it should work.

my apologies,
Glynn Wilson

Hi Peter - I just sent you an email with the info you requested in your last email. I put the entire message in quotes, but I am not sure if it will make it past your spam filter or not.

Thanks,
Glynn Wilson

Not yet - just had new PC for a few hours.  Installed XXHighEnd and 1 music album to make sure all was well.  Currently copying music files to new PC which will continue after I go to sleep in an hour or so - hopefully it will be all done in AM.  Tomorrow I hope to get XXHighEnd fully functional and do some critical listening.  Then will start tweaking PC.  I really know very little about all this, so a steep learning curve.  I am pleased with how quiet the unit is - did a lot of research prior to ordering it.  Any hints from people on further tweaking always appreciated.  Will be using Scott Nixon UFO-jfet USB DAC.

Hi Peter - Just fired up my new dedicated to music only PC and tried to activate XXHighEnd using my code but it failed.  I got a message to copy down some numbers (which I did) but I don't think I should list them on the forum since one of them is obviously my activation code.  FYI, I intend to use this machine for playback only, leaving it unconnected to the internet once it is set up, and using the other PC to connect to XXHighEnd for the purpose of downloading new versions - then move them to dedicated unit with a memory stick.

Thanks,
Glynn
68  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Error message in versions 2 and 3 on: November 16, 2008, 09:27:59 pm
Yea, I don't recall getting this prior to version 2.  It doesn't happen all the time.  Today I deleted all the versions and re-installed 0.9v-7 (simply to listen to the sound of the older version) and have not yet got this message, but then, it's only been a couple of hours.  If it occurs with this older version, I will let you know.  I also took advantage of my 90 day Vista warranty and have submitted this to Microsoft - I'll let you know what they say.  Could changing the size of my wall paper to 800 have anything to do with it - this is a recent change I made.

FYI - last night listening to 0.9v-7, I felt my system sounded better than it ever has.
69  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Error message in versions 2 and 3 on: November 16, 2008, 08:12:30 pm
I get an onscreen  message when I go back to the computer and hit enter to get it going (notice how I use all the correct technical terms) after it has sat with blank screen for a while .  I just have to click on it to make it go away, but it becomes a PITA.  This started when I downloaded last 2 versions - 2 & 3.

Message says: =03=System.ComponentMoel.Win32Exception:The operation was canceled by the user

at System.Diagnostics.Process.StartWithShellExecuteEx(ProcessStartInfostartinfo)

at System.Diagnostics.Process.Start0

When I double click on an album cover in the Library section, sometimes the tracks appear in the playlist and it plays fine, but with some albums I get this message and nothing happens:

71  Ultimate Audio Playback / Music Storage and convenient playback / Gallery - what is it? on: November 11, 2008, 03:45:53 am
Sorry, Peter, but for the life of me I cannot figure out what the gallery section is for.  I have searched, but remain confused.  I have no problem playing my music and using the library, but can you just sum up in a couple of sentences what the gallery is for?  Or refer me to the link that will tell me?
Thanks
72  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your questions about the PC -> DAC route / Re: Need Advice - Dedicated PC Build on: November 03, 2008, 11:53:30 pm
Thanks Peter - I am spending a lot of time (retirement is a good thing) at the various silent PC sites and will construct with much of what I am learning.  But since I am building from scratch, I want to start with the components that will make silencing the PC a bit easier.  If it makes no difference to performance with XXHighEnd, I will use a CPU with a lower clock speed to save the minute amounts of heat I may incure with a higher clock speed.  So I guess I am asking is there any advantage with XXHighEnd to using a CPU with clock speed of 3.16  GHz vs 2.66 GHz?
73  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your questions about the PC -> DAC route / Re: Need Advice - Dedicated PC Build on: November 03, 2008, 10:22:48 pm
Concentrating on building a quiet PC, does the clock speed of the Intel Core 2 Duo make a big difference to XXHighEnd player?  All the e8000 series have 6MB of L2 cache - will the lower clock speed models run at lower temps, thus being easier to cool with less resources?
74  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your questions about the PC -> DAC route / Re: Need Advice - Dedicated PC Build on: November 01, 2008, 12:38:17 am
Thanks for the info.  So to get the best sound, I should either get a non-USB harddisk (which currently has about 300+ GB filled with music files) or a non-USB DAC.  Perhaps the best route may be to have 2 storage devices in the case - 1  small SSD for operating system and large harddisk for music files.  Then look to upgrade the DAC in the future if (when-hehe) I   feel it is needed.  So much to learn. And by the way, I really am looking forward to your remote system. Thanks - I am sure I will have more questions very soon.
75  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your questions about the PC -> DAC route / Re: Need Advice - Dedicated PC Build on: October 31, 2008, 09:27:49 pm
If when using XXHighEnd, the data playing is held in RAM, why would the computer need to get more info from the harddisk while sending a signal to the DAC?  While USB has limits, I am under the impression that, with the exception of the new feature that allows playback to begin while still loading info from harddisk to RAM ("start Engine 3 during conversion"), the 2 operations do not occur at the same time.

Sorry if my ignorance of all things computer is confusing me.
