16  Ultimate Audio Playback / Interesting Music / Testmaterial / Andre Previn, Joe Pass and Ray Brown on: December 02, 2020, 03:17:28 pm
This CD is awesome. Very liquid and great instrument tone. The mix for this is very ethereal, and matches the music selections, which is perfect to my ear. The magic of three musicians playing with perfect timing together is breathtaking.
Sit back, hit play and enjoy!
Available thru TIDAL.

Not sure if you Lush^3 owners are experiencing this, but I thought I would share.
This cable continues to improve well into the 200 hour mark.
18  Ultimate Audio Playback / Interesting Music / Testmaterial / The Rite of Strings on: November 26, 2020, 05:31:37 pm
Besides the great musicians, this CD has great music and sound quality extraordinaire.
The Messenger tube mic/line preamp that was used was my favorite preamp in 1995.
This is as good as it gets!

Kenny, thank you for you kind words. But I am no St really. Happy

The XLR^2 is that ... haha

Regards,
Peter

I've been eyeing that XLR^2 for a while now. I'm curious to hear them next to the 30 year old Hovlands. I love your grounding options. I have experienced the Hovland's in different grounding configurations. They were all soldered connections (or the lack of smile), but I'm with you on the huge differences heard in analog wire.

One day in 2021 you'll just see a pair added to my cart when my curiosity reaches its point of no return.

When I see best of lists, I never see this one.
If you like this type of music, it should be on your list.

Hi Kenny,

Valid question, however when I/we moved over to the Lush^2, we were all of the opinion that nothing could outperform it. Then came the Lush^3 & the Lush^2 is forgotten. Something to ponder....

Best regards,

Arvind

There is always going to be someone who will come up with something better. The only one to come up with something that sounds better than Lush 3 will be Peter St. It won't be the competition, because the competition is way far behind Lush 2, let alone Lush 3.
Ill be honest here. The day I received Lush 3 is the same day I sold my Lush 2. I didn't even want to go back for one song. I became spoiled in one hour.

Trust me, I think your friends in India are just hearing something different that they enjoy, but not really better. After a while they will realize that, and come back to a non-optical connection.

Give me a good designed star quad any day. I use Hovland star quad interconnect (which is over 30 years old and still sounds awesome today) from DAC to speakers. I use ghentaudio star quad DC cable from Uptone LPS 1.2 power supply to ISO REGEN. The only optical connection in my house is between my television and my Wife's wireless headphone charger/connector. We watch TV in the bedroom and I fall a sleep before her. Good place for an optical since I don't listen to them.

Sounds with Jack Marshall and Shelly Manne.
Just a fun record with a great detailed close mic recording.

The cover says it all
ENJOY!
24  Ultimate Audio Playback / Cables (Community induced) / Re: Lush^3 on: November 20, 2020, 05:27:34 pm
The Lush 3 increased separation made my system sound ever so slightly lefty - righty. Lost the magical singular sound. I just moved my speakers 1/2 inch closer together. MAGIC IS BACK

I think most of us have spent so much time and effort to set our speakers up correct, we just assume they're placed optimally. I have found over the years, a component change may require a speaker placement change to re-optimize. Never by much in measurement terms, but in listening terms a huge difference.

Don't be afraid to move your speakers with some component changes, you can always go back. Just my two cents.

Hi Peter,

A number of my audiophile friends in India & abroad are switching over to Optical fibre cables in place of Ethernet or USB for “better” SQ. Most of them are raving about the improvement. In many cases it implies change in hardware where as in some cases it’s modification to the existing hardware.

Is there really any truth in this or is it just a gimmick?

Best regards,

Arvind
Just a question. You have Lush 3. Do you think an optical cable would out perform it? I don't really know for sure, but I doubt it.

Admittedly, things change. So I could be wrong, but in the 90's when separate CD transports and DAC's were just becoming popular, I did a lot of experimenting with cables between the two. I never liked the optical back then, but then again this isn't the 90's is it? Or is the optical still the inferior connection in almost 2021?

Cold Gold - now add bass and drums

The same day as my Lush-2 arrived i picked up this album from a HiFi- magazine : https://listen.tidal.com/album/82811588

The magazin gave it "6" for music and "5" for Sound Quality  ("6" is best)

I will give it "6" for Sound Quality too, maybe it is because of the Lush-2

Tore

I agree. Found this messing around on Tidal a couple months ago. Three tracks I like to play a lot are Birds, Rise, and Feeling Good.
Now have a listen with a Lush 3 cable. Takes it to a 7 Sound Quality.

Hi Peter,

No words can describe the Lush^3. It’s simply fantastic. Others have very aptly tabled their observations, I can only add to it that the decay, of every musical note, is just a little longer, giving an experience of live performance.

An addition of a shield can create such a wonder, is just mind boggling.

Congratulations Peter & thank you for creating this magical experience.

Best regards,

Arvind

Yes the added decay. I referred to it as overtones, but I consider them synonyms any way.
30  Ultimate Audio Playback / Interesting Music / Testmaterial / Re: Forums with Tidal Playlists on: November 13, 2020, 09:36:11 pm
I thought I would share some of what I use for reference. All available on TIDAL.
Some you’ll recognize, and I hope some will be new and entice you to give them an audition.
I consider all of these musically enjoyable and demo quality recordings.
After Hours Blues: Wes Montgomery: Echoes of Indiana Ave
This is the most live sounding recording I’ve ever heard. “You are there” in spades.

Whats New?: Louie Armstrong & Oscar Peterson: Louie Armstrong  Meets Oscar Peterson
Piano sits just left of Louie’s front and center voice. Louie’s phrasing is just mind blowing.

These Bones: Fairfield Four: The Fairfield Four
Acapella – the harmonization is mesmerizing an the tenor voice just amazing – fun cut

Chasing Cars, I Think of You, I Put a Spell on You, & I Want a Little Sugar in My Bowl
by Chantal Chamberland from her “Temptation” Album
I use Chasing Cars for getting my speaker placement to get voice dead center.
I Want a Little Sugar in My Bowl – I play this one just loud enough so my Wife knows I’m in the mood.

Turned My Head Upside Down: Sara K: Are We There Yet
Nice guitar intro and solos with some great voice. Can get just slightly harsh on the voice, but the guitar work makes up for it.

Blues In Orbit: Duke Ellington: Blues in Orbit
The recording venue is a church, and that’s what makes this special along with first rate artists.
The more Church you hear, the better the system you have.

I’m So Lonesome I Could Die, From Four Til Late, & M&O Blues from Hans Theessink “ Songs From The Southland” Album
Great music with an equally great recording

Vicksburg is My Home: Hans Theessink/Terry Evans: Visions
Great separation of voices and some tasty guitar work

Roadhouse & Automobiles, No Sanctuary Here: Chris Jones: Roadhouse & Automobiles
Nice separation of voices, just fun songs

All Things You Are & Limehouse Blues: Andre Previn, Joe Pass, & Ray Brown: After Hours
Very liquid sounding tube overtones on this beautiful recording with “A” plus cast.

Miss You: Jacque Naylor: Shelter
A very fun take on this infamous Rolling Stone’s cut. My Wife loves this one.

Tell Me More and More and Then Some: Jacque Naylor: Jacque Naylor

Autumn in New York: Ella Fitzgerald/Louie Armstrong: Ella and Louis Again
Two giants singing a great song with a recording to match. Timeless!

Mule: Kenny Burrell: Midnight Blue
Famous audiophile recording, but in case you just missed it. The guitar playing and tone of his guitar is breath taking along with some great saxophone

L5 Blues: Joe Pass, Niels-Henning Orsted Petersen: Chops
This fast paced flawless duet just makes you realize how great these two giants were.
I was lucky enough to here Joe Pass once at a tiny venue (50 seats) in the back of Mc Gabe’s guitar shop in Santa Monica, California. Late 70’s.

Gary’s Theme and The Peacocks: Bill Evans: You Must Believe in Spring
Actually every song on this album is superb. I just listed two of my favorites. The Waltz for Debby album gets all the audiophile praise, but this one is the better recording with being the equal to Waltz for Debby musically. Bill’s piano on this recording is tonally superior as well as the rest of the band’s instruments

Goin’ Away: Sam “ Lightning” Hopkins: Goin’ Away
Another audiophile favorite you don’t want to miss. Great recording, and one of the best guitar solos of all time to my ears. Subtle take your time laid back “Lightning” just shines through with Lush 3 cable.

Consider Me Gone: Christian Mc Bride/Sting: Conversations with Christian
This can be repetitious, but if you like Stings voice and McBride’s bass playing with a little guitar work added to break it up, I think you’ll enjoy, I do.

The Moon is a Harsh Mistress: Radka Toneff: Some Time Ago (A Collection of her Finest)
Nice Haunting voice with interesting piano. When I worked at Acoustic Image in Studio City, California selling high end audio gear in the mid 90’s, I played this LP quite a lot.

Fever: (Live a (FIP) Musica Nuda: Musica Nuda
Classic song with a nice voice, and added bonus of some good harmonica work.

Blue Bossa: Brian Bromberg: Wood II
Solo upright bass with added percussion work by knuckle on face of bass and other interesting percussive to spice up a fun solo bass cut.
