1  Ultimate Audio Playback / Orelino / Orelo MKII Loudspeakers / Re: Non availability of Hypex DSP boards on: February 22, 2022, 10:07:39 am
Hi Arvind

No you are not the only one I think I have replaced 3 Hypex boards since I got my Orelino's and also Mani had a board fail that I replaced for him some time ago. Recently I have been lucky and no failures but for sure the Hypex boards are a problem. I did install a relay latch in the mains supply to my hi fi system so that if there is a power cut then power stays off to the hi fi and I can then power everything up carefully. Hopefully Bert can come up with something ????????

Cheers

2  Ultimate Audio Playback / Cables (Community induced) / Re: Lush^3 on: September 30, 2021, 07:37:33 pm
This is weird I set up my Lush 3 as above and started to listen and ouch it really was more than a tad sharp and clinical. So then I played with the setup changing some of the wiring to see if I could find a softer sounding setup. But in the end I went back to A:W-Y-R-G, B:W-G and now it sounds much better clear incisive but very listenable. Cannot imagine what happened but possibly one of the following: -

1 Bad connection with one or more of the plugs (very unlikely)
2 Got the wrong config the first time (impossible)
3 Something odd happened like capacitive charging in the cable when playing round with the different wiring configs

Or maybe just maybe :

4 An alien presence changed some setting while I went to the bathroom
5 I am loco, crazy, mad, loop the loop, out to lunch or gaga (delete as appropriate)

I know what most of my friends would think but I have to say there is one thing I did do and that was listen to the default original (inner shield only connected) and what a huge difference compared with this latest setting I mean a really really big difference. Who would have thought that shielding would make such a big difference. You can't help concluding that the USB link is a big compromise and possibly one of the biggest weaknesses in the whole setup.

Cheers

You said the fix is to restart XXHighEnd. Thus, Quit by crossing away and restart, right ? Could you try what you see below (when XXHighEnd already is on screen) ? Notice that this will need a real keyboard, but if it works, I can incorporate that in the XXOSK screen.

I said the fix is to restart XXHighEnd - yes thats correct. I tried Ctrl-Alt-L with XXHighend already on screen as requested but it does not work unfortunately XXHighend remains small. Only when XX is crossed out then restarted does XXHighEnd return to normal size.

Peter - why do you think this problem only occurs when XX is in Unattended? it is not a problem in Attended.

Maybe some of you noticed that all the normal Redbook CD albums are disappearing with lightspeed from Tidal. What remains are "MQA" 44.1 (16 bit) albums.

*If* you plan to listen to more albums of your favorite artist, then be quick with Preparing them for Playback, now you still can.
They have let loose a batch conversion program on the existing albums, and they are all being converted (at least I have the idea they will be doing them all).

Notice that we are talking about the same Album ID's here that literally change. Thus, the same album (ID) receives new content. I checked, and the music data really changes.
I did not check whether it sounds good or not, but I really am not interested in finding out, knowing that there will be no other way any more in the future.

Strange over time I have been trawling through recent jazz releases to try and find something decent to listen to (some 2020 but mostly 2021 releases) and of the 50 I have so far tried only 3 were MQA the rest were normal redbook. Very odd I wasn't expecting that as I had the same experience as others that it seemed that MQA was taking over as the defacto standard. Maybe Tidal are targeting the mass market releases and not bothering with the fringe less popular stuff.

Lets hope so (fingers crossed)

Peter, I agree with Anthony it is something that is only a problem in unattended, when in attended everything is OK and the XX display is normal.

OK so I have been playing around with screen settings on the "viewing computer" but all settings are back to original settings and after a re-boot of the music (621) server all is OK now the XX display now shows correctly on the viewing computer when in minimised. For sure the settings are all the same as they were when I reported the problem so I do not know what has changed.

One of the mysteries of Windows I guess

........ well kind of - XX display still comes back smaller in unattended (than in attended) in fact all looks the same as when I reported the problem with one exception the buttons do not overlap. So I am not sure if that is correct but with XX display looking OK just smaller well I can live with that. But is that "correct" because before XX display always came back in unattended the same size as attended.

** UPDATE ** mmm nothing has changed still the same problem please disregard above comment

Peter

Not sure if this helps but in the first photo attached XX is just going into minimised mode (ie Play has just been clicked). What happens next is shown in the second photo where the "Wait for service to stop....." message reduces in size just before XX fires back up in minimised mode. Note that this does not happen when I view via another computer regardless of the dpi or scaling settings.

Hmm ... Still it has been made such that all should be able to cope. So maybe at some stage something sneaked in that undermines it now.

Paul, or Anthony, can you give me a DPI (Windows) setting on one hand, and the Scale Factor of XXHighEnd on the other ?
Also, at which native resolution of the display is this ?

Peter - OK Scale Factor in XX is 1.7  and DPI on my "viewing laptop" is 150%  & display res is 2256x1504  ** BUT ** I have already "played" with these settings and they make no difference to the problem.

So it does not matter what DPI is set on the "viewing laptop" XX in minimised viewed via RDC is the same size on the laptop screen. And changing the scaling factor in XX does fix the problem either.

Note that if I use another computer as the viewing computer (in this a desktop PC) there are no problems via RDC the XX display in minimised is OK and that is regardless of the dpi settings on the viewing computer and changing scaling in XX does what you would expect and is shown the same in attended and unattended.

Hope that is not too confusing

Hi Peter

I have recently replaced my steam driven laptop with a new one. Everything is fine but I have a minor problem when in unattended. Operation in attended is fine the XX display is fine and font etc is all OK. When I go into unattended operation i get wallpaper displayed correctly the font of the track listing is a bit small (can I change that?) but I could live with that. However, whilst still in Unattended and I press Alt X the XX display comes up but it is smaller than it was in attended and the buttons overlap (although font looks ok). If I then click the Stop button music stops and the XX display is still "small". To get the XX display to return to its original correct size I have to close XX and restart it. How can I fix it such XX display is shown correctly in unattended.

Let me know if you want any screenshots and I will post.

Cheers

MMmmm strange the problem has returned. Previously I had closed XX whilst it was playing a track and then when I fired up XX again no error message so I thought it was fixed. However this morning when I fired up XX the problem had "returned". Attached is error message. it seems XX is looking for something that is not there. The album referenced in the attached error message was deleted some time ago.

Hey Peter

Interesting that closing XX whilst a new album was playing sorted the problem.

Hi Peter

I keep getting an error message "76 Couldnt find path to ........." each time I fire up XX. So XX each time is looking for an old music directory path that Usually the message disappears after a while of using a new directory but not this time. How can I get rid of it?

Cheers

Mani

Fantastic I had a similar experience except that I connected my Android phone with 2  lengths of wet string (+ve and -ve). I can honestly say it was the most amazing sound quality I have ever experienced.
