Roy,

I moved your ridiculous post to somewhere else, until I maybe start appreciating it and move it back.

Don't forget this is not about getting free music,
see it more like;"I dont have to do the work to rip this album again, because its already *there* incl. artwork etc"

With this info i know what to buy and what not

18  Ultimate Audio Playback / Chatter and forum related stuff / Tools to use - backup your CD's on: September 28, 2011, 05:41:58 pm
The tools I currently use to make perfect back-ups of my CD's and get rid of the originals when done are:

EAC 1.0 ----> for SECURE ripping (Updated)
Cuetools ---> for testing and converting (is updated to recognize more accurip versions of the same album)
Photoshop --> to make proper scans in 300-600 DPI .png file (about 3-8 MB per scan) also scanning the
the laserside of the CD for the matrix code this could be relevant for comparing versions etc.
Tag&Rename, Tagscanner and Foobar (with discogs tagger) ---> for tagging info into the flac files.

Handy tools are:

Discogs (site)
Amazon (site)
Mediainfo (program)

 Wink

PS:

My (re)naming template for eg. looks like:
%albumartist% - %album% (%year%) {[%DISCOGS_LABEL%;] %DISCOGS_CATALOG%}\%filename%

I generally buy all my cd's used on Amazon. Amazon now lists the release dates of the cd; ironically the newer and remasters are all more expensive than the better sounding ones released in the late 80's and early 90's.

This says it all Brian, thats the smartest AND only thing you could do.
Mostly the older versions are not in store anymore.

Currently i have access to almost all music databases on the internet over 3 miljoen lossless albums I guess,
combine that with 100mbps internet speed.
What i want to say; I just don't fill up hdd drives anymore, I only keep the best albums on my hdd.
So only proper stuff and well yea some sentimental stuff as well.

Once in while I buy an album that isn't in the database or has no artwork or has for eg. CRC mismatches.
Most I buy second hand.

PS: Watch out with so called FIRST PRESSINGs, they are sometimes Pre-emphasized !!
Just open your cuesheet into a text editor and look for FLAGS PRE, then you'll know.
Thats why i keep suggesting to everybody to keep your cue's and logs with your secure rips ;0

Hey Brian,

I hope we all are aware of this by now,

By accident I'am working on a MFSL discography, not acquiring the MFSL versions but the original versions
MFSL used as master, go figure.

While everybody gets occupied with remasters, 24-96/192, MFSL, XRCD, black edition, gold this, gold that, gold etc,
Just try to get the original releases/masters, first pressings or unremastered versions, these are golden.
You will be less disappointed as the other way around, believe me.
These are ofcourse somewhat older albums, newer albums will remain a problem.

Filtering and not having headroom causes the loss of dynamics IMO.

Hey Peter,

Nice Job on this release.
Must have been a whole lot of work you've put in this one.

First impressions are VERY GOOD,

I've been out for a couple of months, as you know.
So I went from 0.9z-2 to 0.9z-5 just last week, which was a somewhat big relieve on the hights part.

But the 0.9z-6 version even tops that.

Just tried the minimize OS function, I REALLY LOVE IT!!
The background of the sound is black and darkened now!

Thank you for all you time and effort.

I hope you enjoy the music package i've send you  Wink

23  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Software x-over function in XXHighEnd on: February 08, 2011, 06:42:22 pm
Haha,

That would be nice, huh
In theory its possible and already done, but as a filter behind the xx-process. (Telstar for eg.)

Now the whole point would be, when (bi-tri) amps can be build cheaper and passive x-overs that are mostly not of great quality, yes replacing them with sofware means would be the ULTIMATE goal. (also because good passive x-overs can cost +250 euros each, and no adjusting possible)
And thinking even further, how about measuring your OWN livingroom with a mic and adjust x-overs accordingly, just an example for what is coming.

But its not that easy, especially when doing it in a *proper* way, Peter can eleborate this much better.

It will take BIG resources from your pc.
As a pre-process it maybe needs a fast 6core i7, to convert to for eg. 6ch with proper speed, i dunno.
So for eg. a flac hdcd needs decoded to wav then filtered then upsampled TIMES 6 etc, you get the picture.
How to get all those channels properly routed ?, as in more soundcards or *outputs* (new/better hardware solution?)

This also overlaps a blu-ray/dtsma/dtshd part for a bit, because i convert ALL lossless multichannels to 5.1 FLAC.
When doing this, the question is now, how to get this out the pc in to several amps.

And ofcourse, the need for several NOS1's is also a problem not to forget.

24  Ultimate Audio Playback / Chatter and forum related stuff / Re: Gainclone heaven ? on: February 07, 2011, 06:22:40 pm
Hmm. GainClone,

Did some reading, looks nice......

Because i have almost all parts here, 4x psu amplimo 35v, 4x power-delay circuits.
So the only things i need, are some cooling parts and some decent caps, opamps and some other cheap parts.
ok...... I'am in.....

I have to read some more, but if you have some proper links, these are always welcome.

PS: if you want to try using software x-overs, do you need for eg. a second juli@ ? or......?
PPS: if you dont use software x-overs but just a passive x-over and use bi-amping, how would you connect the interlink to the amp
as 1 cable input and internally y wired to the inputs of the 2xamps per ch. ?

25  Ultimate Audio Playback / Playback Tweaks and Source related subjects / Re: Reducing EMI/RFI / Power Wraps by Highwire on: January 13, 2011, 03:26:13 pm
My recipe DIY mains cable:

4x2 (8 wires)twisted solid stranded ofc copper wire (have to lookup the wire-gauge)with teflon, foil and copper-mesh shielding, teflon tape, nice cotton outside.
No soldering Furutech connectors, they are expensive but VERY nice contact clamps and high contact strenght.
Look very nice, works very well.
This way its also very easy to test different cable designs, without soldering.

Never touch contact points with your fingers, clean them with pure alcohol, btw. alcohol removes soldering flux too.

26  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: Challenging hiend cd player/transport result on: January 10, 2011, 06:38:46 pm
Dont send tracks, rather send whole albums !

2 albums, one you think sounds right and one you think has lesser dynamics.
Only send albums with cue and log. (if possible)

I can setup this myself, if this is what it takes. (I have several drives and ripping software incl. plextools)

So......?
27  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: Challenging hiend cd player/transport result on: January 10, 2011, 06:13:31 pm

You can use the settings Audiodidakt posted one page before. The read out offset must be chosen for your drive. You can test this with a cd or look into a table. The new EAC does this automatically I think.

I can compare crc's even if the offsets are wrong. (in most cases)

Explain what is wrong, post the files !!!!

http://blowfish.be/eac/Rip/rip1.html

see my log in prevoius post,

tons of EAC configurations ???.............. there is only 1 proper setup, see guide

or, just rip anyway you like, send the recently found different sounding albums to me, i will sort out crc and offsets !

Please dont repeat yourself AGAIN.

May be you should try to explain otherwise stating that other people are too ignorant to understand your science is not a way to make constructive discussion.

Try to be constructive WindowsX, following your statements for several weeks now, it never seems to end.

Discussions = good
Ignorant non-constuctive shouting = no good
