Just do some reading, in understanding what to put where.
And selecting your audio-device and music folder.

And use Engine#2, I believe !

OCZ Vertex 60GB (223,-) or Intel X-25M 80GB  (219,-)

http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/flash_drives/ocz_vertex_series_sata_ii_2_5-ssd
http://www.intel.com/design/flash/nand/mainstream/index.htm

The Intel is even cheaper now, IMO I would go for the Intel.
There is no difference in Q, I guess, so take the cheapest (Dutch) and biggest.

Do get W7, you may even like it...........

No problems over here on W7:
Even using "Aero Themes" with nVidea 9800 GTX.
Is this the difference between drivers or OS ???
I would surely use the standard VGA driver and a vanilla video-card in my
Audio pc, because you don't need it.

But Gerard I bet you get better results on W7.....

Came across some good Jazz albums:

Ahmad Jamal - 1986 - Rossiter Road (Jazz)

George Benson - 1978 - Weekend in LA (Jazz)

I'am a very very happy W7 (tweaked) user.
Still on the W7 RC 7100 version.

I would recommend to not use any other apps when ripping your precious albums with EAC to hdd.
Also use "copy image and create cue sheet" option in EAC
You will get better results (100%)
Then make from it what you want.
So no converting to FLAC during ripping

But I can do almost anything during playback of XX.
This is not good for SQ, but yes I can.
If I go to far I get crackels in my sound (but running a very stable system (with SSD) so far, and without virus-scan)
SSD is my best upgrade for speed.
Latest version of xx is very stable, no problems at all, only the things we know already.

Skrew Vista get W7
369  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Mono button? on: December 13, 2009, 12:38:16 pm
Maybe you mean a balance switch, were you can control the channels seperatly.
so 2 volume controls, 1 for each channel.
370  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Mono button? on: December 12, 2009, 11:22:57 pm
These were mixed this way originally, using just 1 studio-monitor.
Some fans insist that the mono mixes are superior to the stereo ones.

But this has a lot to do with nostalgic, those remaster versions.
Hearing the cracking of Ringo Starr's crutch when playing drums.

Nostalgic and nothing to do with audiophile IMO.
But I'am not going in discussion with real beatles fans, was not even born yet, so HELP!

(and what about commerce, how much costs the divorce of Paul???)
371  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Mono button? on: December 12, 2009, 10:00:33 pm
About those mono beatles recordings,

They should be played from 1 speaker only.
Not 2x mono.

Correct me if I'am wrong!

PS: So just use 1 speaker instead of mono function.
372  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Mono button? on: December 12, 2009, 07:47:38 pm
Did you know:

If you want to test your speakers for correct connections, especially home-build.

Set your sound to mono, and change the phase of 1 speaker.(change the + and -)

Put them with the baffle against each other and leave about 1cm of space between both.

If all is connect well, you hear nothing.
 Happy

(for closed cabinets ofcourse)
373  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: XXHighend referense track list on: December 11, 2009, 06:23:18 pm
Alright lets be serious again,

What about:
Allison Krauss & Union Station - It Doesn't Matter
And,
Blues Company - Cold Rain

Mostly for testing the bass

Maybe we should make a difference between favourite music
and music for testing purpose.
This should be about test-files for system tests.
