Thanks Peter. Since my PC is water cooled and the case is always open space or the height of the RAM is not an issue for me. For SQ does the speed matter? Would 4 sticks of 2400, 8 gig each sound better than 4 sticks of 1600, 4 gig each, which is what I currently have?
124  Ultimate Audio Playback / Playback Tweaks and Source related subjects / Best Memory for ASRock Extreme 4M MB and RAM-OS on: March 22, 2016, 03:40:23 pm
Am thinking of increasing my memory from 16 to 32 gigs so I have more headroom for Hi Res files (24/192). Here is a link to supported memory for the Extreme 4m MB. http://www.asrock.com/mb/intel/X79%20Extreme4/index.us.asp?cat=Memory
Any suggestions on what type of memory should be used with the RAM-OS?

EDIT: Looks like the G.Skill F3-2400C10Q-32GTX, first in the list, is the only 32 gig memory for this MB?

Though I doubt this would help, try ticking the "Don't do anything with cover art box" in settings. I think it stopped happening here after I ticked that box; however, I'm not using cover art for other reasons.

No help from here other than to say I had this issue but it was very sporadic and it hasn't happened in weeks.
127  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Live track skipping between "tracks". on: February 23, 2016, 10:35:42 pm
Hey Bert, I use EAC to rip discs and the software has options for determining the gap between tracks. One option is to use the gaps, or lack of them, on the retail-store bought- disc. If I don't check that box on a live recording I get gaps between tracks that are not on the retail CD. If I check that box XXHighend plays the recording exactly as it is on the disc.

One thing that I can't place though is the operation of the RAM-OS in your system.  How has it worked for you?  It has worked very nicely for me but if it made a difference for you then something else must be at work given the arrangement of your components, the supposed operation of the Intona and the reason for development of the RAM-OS being to reduce PC noise but reducing current draw in the PC.

I hesitate to jump into a thread where I am not very knowledgeable, but here's an observation/theory I've had about why the RAM-OS sounds so fantastic: when running the OS from RAM both electrical and vibration induced noise are eliminated. Prior to my RAM-OS I've had my spinning HD and fanless Seasonic PC power supply outside of the PC case on isolation footers. This step has always had a significant impact on SQ. When I first used the unplugged RAM-OS there was something very familiar with the sound that I believe has something to do with not having a spinning HD inside of the PC case. However, unplugging the RAM-OS went one step further to improve SQ because now electrical noise was also reduced. Today only my PC power supply is outside of the case and I make very specific adjustments to the sound with the type of footer underneath it.

One more observation: maybe it's my imagination, but try putting a 3.5 HD, or some other object weighing a couple of pounds, on top of your featherweight Intona. Seemed to solidify the sound a bit here.

The other day I tried activating this button (RAM-OS) but ran into problems and had to reboot. Must one have the LAN button active in order to use this button? If so, maybe it's time to try that RDC connection again?  Happy

Received my Intona yesterday afternoon. It adds another level of delicacy, detail and smoothness. It seems I am now able to really hear how good a bad recording can sound while, at the same time, I hear why that recording is bad compared to a terrific recording. So, like never before, my brain goes in two directions at once with mediocre to bad recordings!

In the last three weeks I've had a complete revolution occur in my listening room: W10+RAM-OS+Intona. Mind blowing. Thanks Peter.

Thanks Peter. Given the complexity it's really a small thing to overlook! Will manage till next XX version comes out by making playlist changes in the base OS.

Yes, the combo box on lower right of screen is where all of my playlists are listed. Just beloe the box is the "Save" button.

I think you are right Peter, I'll check tonight when I will initially boot from the base before going into the RAM version. Like Alain said, it really is no problem, just wanted to make sure. Thanks!
134  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Activate Windows Message on: February 08, 2016, 12:37:47 pm
In Ram OS I am getting a message in lower right of screen to go to settings to activate windows, but when I boot into the base version there is no activation message. Do I need to do anything?
135  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Cannot Modify or Creat a New Playlist with RAM-OS on: February 08, 2016, 12:34:57 pm
Playlist changes are not saved on shut down when made in RAM-OS.
