I thought the extra 500 would yield an extra 10-15 lbs.  Happy Did you see they build a music server for $65,000?

Do you think the 200 watt "S1" is enough power if fan-less and one HD?

Hey Nick didn't you post some time ago that re-enabling devices in your BIOS had a positive impact on SQ? Here that is definitely NOT the case. Disabling all Onboard Devices in the Advanced/Onboard Devices Configuration tab is essential to the incredible sounds I've been hearing.

And where in BIOS are these speedstep settings? I've just spent too long "clicking on everything."   wacko

I'll take a fresh listen between Red Book and download to see if the 24 vs. 16 bit makes a difference.

The recording is close-mic'ed. But apart from this the SQ is stunning, when replayed through XX/W8!
If you search various forums you find several dissatisfied listeners complaining about hard/edgy sound. But - HEY - they don't have the playback technology which WE have ;-)

Not hard and edgy here. Very interested in your impression of redbook v HD. Thanks!

[quoteJust played Anne Sophie Mutter - Carmen Fantasia (HDTRACKS 2488). It was so good I had to replay the whole album one more time][/quote]

This is on of my all time favorite classical cd's. Wanna hear a "woody" violin? Give it a listen; track 1 is my favorite. My version is redbook. Anyone ever compared the difference between redbook ad HD versions?

Thanks Nick. Will post when I get a chance to give it a try.

Hey Pedal, you may notice that Peter's signature makes no mention of Peak Extension. You may want to take a listen with it off, but you have to remember to lower volume by 3db. My sound took a big leap forward when I turned it off.

I believe I've heard this a few times. It was always very soft and seems to disappear when music plays. I've never heard it during very soft classical passages, so it's never really bothered me.
416  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: Water cooled/W8 Power Options/Start Up Issue on: July 07, 2013, 02:11:38 pm
Thanks Alain. I was going to go into the BIOS if I couldn't find a solution in Control Panel. As for the water pump, its completely external to the pc and is not plugged into the audio mains circuit.
Also I totally lack the knowledge/skill to figure out how to create such an automatic switch.

What's weird is that I never noticed before that the PC could be turned on via the keyboard. It seems like some setting got unknowingly changed to allow for it cause I think I would have noticed it sooner. Anyone else able to boot up W8 by pressing two keyboard keys?
417  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Water cooled/W8 Power Options/Start Up Issue on: July 06, 2013, 06:23:05 pm
About ten days ago I noticed that pressing any two keyboard keys at the same time caused my computer to start up from an "off" state. Ever since, I've been manually turning off the PC power supply when I shut down. This is to prevent the scenario of someone inadvertently turning the computer on by picking up the keyboard while the water pump is off in my PC cooling tower. Though the BIOS software that I have would probably shut the system down if it started to overheat, I just don't want to have to find that out!

Anyway, today I shut off "Turn On Fast Startup (Recommended)" in the shutdown settings. No longer will my keyboard operate as a switch to turn the computer on. (SQ seems a bit better too.) You can find the option in Control Panel/Power Options/Choose Power Button options. Once you are there you probably have to click "Change settings that are currently unavailable" near the top of the page.

Hadn't played these tracks since I had this issue. After reading your reply, I changed Q1 from 30 to 14 and xQ1 from 10 to 1 and the problem disappeared. Switching back to 30/10 it's clear that the higher latency is the culprit.

Glad you liked those tracks!

Can I  just copy/past my existing 9Z-9 XX folder, which is on my C drive, onto my RAMdrive or do I need to get a new activation key?
