586  Ultimate Audio Playback / Playback Tweaks and Source related subjects / Re: EAC or dbPoweramp? on: August 22, 2012, 12:52:48 pm
So I set up a playback drive and the difference between the EAC and dbPoweramp rips remains. I went through the log files and dbpoweramp used C2 error correction pointers and EAC did not. The Plextor has C2 error correction capability but I've read that that technology doesn't always work well. Am wondering if that's the difference?

Sure hope there's a version of the driver for XP, my plan is to use an old laptop with Bluetooth technology already installed on it. It's a Lenovo Think Pad. Maybe I'll be able to only install the dongle on the Musuc PC and use the already exiting bluetooth capabilities in the laptop. We'll see.

Well then, I guess I'll read up on it and give it a try. "Knowing All" is not in my developmental plan for life!

If you are AB-ing, never forget to use the [ C ] button in between two tracks with the same name. This clears the Playback "cached" location - in this case the Playback Drive.

I've done my A-Bing by loading the tracks with the explorer button. I used a different naming scheme for EAC so there shouldn't be a cach issue, though that's a great tip abput the Clear button.

I also have not used the Playback Drive and I don't think it should make a difference for me. All tracks are ripped to  a music folder on OS drive.

The difference between the two rippers is significant enough that I'll be reripping everying.....I'm pretty sure.

Thanks Roy, great post--appreciate all that info!

Thanks Juan, in your earlier post you did mention that your first impression of EAC was that it is smoother. I have found that with the advent of Phase alignment and the NOS 768 driver, every little distortion has become much easier to spot or hear. If you compare two tracks with each software now you may find EAC is better. At least I hope so, cause it may just be that I was up too late last night having a bit too much fun........ Happy

Someone recently sent me some tracks that were ripped with EAC. They had a cleaner sound than my dbpoweramp secure rips. I downloaded EAC and have ripped several cd's previously ripped with dbpoweramp, all with the same result: EAC has a much cleaner sound. With dbpoweramp there is a midrange hash/breathyness/fuzzyness that is absent from EAC. I checked my dbpoweramp settings and all appears okay. The offset is identical for both programs and both programs use Accurate Rip.  Have I lost my mind?

Okay I thought that if he ticked "at attended" in the wllpaper section--something I never do-- that the wallpaper would then appear. Guess not!
594  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / 0.9Z-7: Activation with Code not Paypal--new restore point on: August 18, 2012, 02:08:13 am
If all is right with your current 9Z-7 setup you might want to make a new restore point now. Today I was ripping and listening to various cd's which meant  going back and forth between minimised and full OS. At one point I couldn't get out of minimised so I used my trusty restore point. Once restored I had to reactivate XXhighend! Am assuming this happened because the OSX file from the official release was eliminated during the restore. So if I had created a new restore point with the "New" OSX file from my last succesful activation, I assume I wouldn't have had to reactivate?

The good news is I was able to cut and paste the activation code after following the procedure requiring that one uses XX enough --play a track/close /open/ play a track ,etc. Hope this post makes sense !

596  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: Phase Alignment - WOW, WOW, WOW! on: August 17, 2012, 01:02:03 pm
I was going to put this in a new thread but after reading Mani's last post it just feels right here. Want to hear cymbals? Give the introductory part of "Heart of the Sunrise", track 10, from Yes's Fragile album a listen. Did this last night and the cymbals sounded so real, not like a live recording, but like live music. I've listened to this track hundreds of times and never before did those cymbals send shivers up my spine.

There is something about PA with a SFS of 2 that has put the music in my room into another league. Everything has become more "Musical" on an emotional, "this is why we listen to music" level. But I digress here cause Mani, in his last post, said it best.

I don't have this issue when I press stop. but I do have this issue when I am in the settings area and I change a setting.

Hey Peter, for you this must be like herding cats! Given all of your work and the very incredible results of that work, together with all of the steps you've taken to try to minimize issues,  I sure hope no one is complaining!

I had this issue too. I used Alain's "fix" from here and it worked for me: http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=2166.0

PS Can't wait much longer for the BT-drivers and communicate at a distance to play music...

Me too. Right now am using a ten foot video and two ten foot PS/2 cables so I can have control from my listening position. Am pretty certain SQ will improvew with all that stuff unplugged, although Peter did say somewhere that keeping the monitor on helps SQ. If that's the case I'll switch to a 3 foot video cable.
