Chris, thanks for your pioneering. Will be interesting to see what you find.

Thanks guys, I'll probably go with the WBT Next gens. Right now the circuit was created with basic radio Shack copper wire, but since it sounds so good the wire will be replaced with silver, gold plated. Can't wait to get this hooked up to the NOS USB sometime soon!

Yo MOWA, thanks for your considerable insights. Will give your picks a listen and, hopefully, will continue my growing appreciation of classical.

I guess it's Dinnerstein's sense of beauty and tenderness of heart that so grabs me.

Am making a "Direct Circuit," bypassing volume pot,  on my integrated amp and the new circuit sounds great, a veil lifted,  but I want to upgrade the RCA sockets. Here's a link to the three I'm considering: Furutech, Eichman and WBT. Anyone have any experience with these? Does their "sound" justify the cost? And what kind are in the NOS 1? Just wondering.

680  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your questions about the PC -> DAC route / Re: Hey laptop users...... on: January 31, 2012, 04:22:17 pm
Sorry I wasn't clear. The Jkenny was far superior powered with  battery power v Walwart power; XXHighend with laptop battery power v laptop AC power made no difference.

Hope this is clear.
681  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your questions about the PC -> DAC route / Re: Hey laptop users...... on: January 31, 2012, 02:34:31 pm
When I was using the JKenny MKII and a laptop the difference between using batteries versus the wall wart  with the JKenny were very significant; however, there was very little, if any difference, between AC power and battery power with the laptop. Never did understand why.

When I took my mother-in-law back to D.C. after the holiday, she insisted I take her Sony 400 disc cd player, full of cd's, back to Philly so I could "record" them all. Among the many jewels I've found is this 1956 recording-- Jazz vocalist Anita O'Day's first Verve recording: This Is Anita. Incredible voice--incredible recording.

The change happened since minimize operating system became a feature.

Right, but what is different is that I can boot up into SC with a SFS of 200. Previously I've only ever been able to get a SFS of 60, one time, with a lot of trial and error. Usually the largest SFS I can get on a new boot is 25. Again, I am now able to boot into SC and a SFS of 200. I think something has seriously changed.

Right, but after a reboot doesn't the sound engine reload? That's where I'm surprised I can play SC with a high SFS.

No, the first 9z-6.

Recently I've noticed that when I initially boot up I can get XXhighend to run in Straight Contiguous with an initial SFS of 200. Previously I had to run in Mixed Contiguous for a few seconds before switching to Straight Contiguous or, if I wanted to boot into SC, the largest SFS I could get was 60. Now, booting up in SC, SFS 200,  I play a track for a few seconds and then  change the SFS to 350 and all just works.

Sounds great too!

688  Ultimate Audio Playback / Music Storage and convenient playback / Re: About ripping on: January 03, 2012, 11:17:02 pm
Hi Juan, don't know if this makes a difference but I created my partition using the onboard "disc management" that Windows provides. Though you  probably already know ( Happy) you access it through Control Panel/Administrative Tools/Computer Management/Storage. If you highlight the disc you want to partition and right click on it, you create the partition by "Shrinking" the disc.

Well, with that problem I can certainly understand why you would want to find a new means of ripping to you music folder. Sure hope disabling the virtual memory solves the problem!

Maybe I'm not understanding the problem. Are you having a problem with one of the partitions booting or is it that the partition doesn't recognize the drive where you store your music? Is your music drive an external usb or is it an internal drive? Just wondering.
