With this knowledge I tried to get it going again for an hour or so, but I gave up and in comes the copy of the OS again ....
Btw the worse part is the necessity to insert the video card again in order to boot into a "service OS".

I'm all too familiar with this procedure. Were you just trying to delete a file or did the OS stop working so you had to reinstall the OS copy? If the latter, what do you think caused the OS to stop working?

Hoping to shed more light on prior problems.  Happy

That assumed, your sequence can be Alt-X, Press Pause, change setting, press Play.
At least that is how I do it.

Even more conveniently would be : Alt-X, change setting(s), press Pause, tap on the time bar at the bottom if you like to proceed a bit further because changing the setting(s) took you 30 seconds and you don't want to repeat all of those 30 seconds, press Play.

Thanks Peter. Will give your method a try, but it does seem the most convenient to pause and return GUI in one command. Certainly not worth the effort though if too time consuming to implement.
78  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Control/Alt/E? on: December 03, 2016, 05:02:03 am
Any chance we could get a Control/Alt/E command? With the RDC connection and Persist turned off, in unattended its a bit of a wait when one hits the pause command (Alt/E) before the music actually pauses. Then you have remember to Alt /X to bring up the GUI in order, say, to change a setting. Would be a bit more convenient if it were all one command like Control/Alt/X. I have found that errors occur if one hits the pause command and then the Alt/X command before the music has actually paused. Hope that makes sense and is doable?

No wireless remote, only wireless to the wifi extender and all is well.  Happy

Happy to report that for the last two days I have been using my netgear wifi extender hard wired to my control/remote laptop. Wife is especially happy that the LAN cable going from the router in the kitchen through the dining room, then up two flights of stairs and down two hallways has been removed. The excuse of "just for testing purposes" was getting a bit old! So now its wireless to the extender, hard wired from extender to the control laptop then hardwired from laptop to audio PC. I believe now that the source of ALL my unattended problems that prompted this thread was the failure to designate the audio PC as a trusted device in my firewall settings in the control laptop.

Not sure if it's been discussed before, but enabling the audio pc as a trusted device in the remote pc's antivirus software's firewall settings is essential for maintaining the RDC connection during unattended playback. Found that out the other day when I installed Norton 360 on my control  laptop (windows). I could make the connection and play unattended but would lose the connection once music started in unattended. Going into the firewall settings and making the audio pc a trusted device made the connection stable in unattended. Does an ipad have firewall settings?

That was quick. Thanks!

Morning Peter, since 2.06 was released I am no longer able to arrange or move tracks in a playlist. Formerly one could move tracks around in any order and now you can only drag a track to the bottom of the list. The process Ive used is highlighting the track, left clicking and, while holding down left click, move track up or down. Now, you can only move track to the bottom. Here's a picture of highlighting and left click, etc.

So what we're really comparing is the 'best' microRendu setup vs. the 'best' Mach II setup. I think this is the most interesting comparison, certainly to me.

Okay, I thought you were just trying to determine which transport was better. Once you throw in the software one is left not knowing whether the decrease in SQ with the Rendu is to to the hardware or the software. Would be great if a way could be figured to load XXHighEnd on the Rendu. Or, if you just wanted to judge the transport and not the software, to run HQ player on both devices.

Hi Brian,

File 2: Roon -> HQPlayer -> bit-perfect 16/44.1 output
File 3: XXHighEnd -> bit-perfect 16/44.1 output

Mani.

Don't you assume that there is some equivalency in sound between Roon-HQ/Player and fully tweaked/RAM-OS optimized XXHighend player? If there is no equivalency (I'll bet the family farm there is No Way Roon/HQ sounds the same as XX on your Mach II) how can a valid comparison be made? Wouldn't it be better to play all (microRendu and Mach II) with identical HQ player settings?

What playback software was used to capture the files in 2 and 3? Will give them a listen this evening.

This Balanced Load now dynamically changes when you start XXHighEnd and it gives it the full boost = 100%, assumed you want to have that fast and are not interested in good SQ (while you just stopped Playback anyway). Bbbbut ...
When you press Apply it (the lower speed etc.) will be applied anyway, no matter XXHighEnd has been brought up and Boost is active. So it "unboosts" at that moment (no real reason to do that IMO but alas it works like that).

So all summarized ... You are not changing back to 43 each time (remember, the number is still in there) but you think you need to press Apply each time and watch the number between braces;
Not necessary because XXHighEnd will apply it for you, when you quit XXHighEnd (and that really is sufficient - no need to press Play).

Sorry for the late reply, got sidetracked canvassing for the Clinton campaign. It's because I understand that what is between parenthesis in the XTweaks settings is what is actually active that I asked my first question: Why, with "Boost" active and after the GUI returns from unattended play, does it show 100 between parenthesis when I originally set it to 43. Are you now saying (with Boost active) that when I hit play again it will automatically revert back to 43 and there will be no effect on SQ?
89  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: XTweaks : Balanced Load Question on: October 30, 2016, 03:15:57 pm
No idea where the "settings" are? Without XX open I cannot get to any settings. Do you mean to open the XX folder in Explorer?
90  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / Re: XTweaks : Balanced Load Question on: October 30, 2016, 02:50:58 pm
Well, I set it to 43 and tick the apply button in X Tweaks and the  value in parenthesis changes to 43, or I tick the Mach II button and tick apply and the value in parenthesis changes to 43. I then either let a track play to the end and the GUI returns or I "control/alt/x" to stop the track before its finished and, in either case, the value is as in my picture above.

I now have a new but I think related problem. XXHighend will not open. When I shut down last night I was in 14393, RAMOS. So that's what is booting now. However, XXHighend will not open. When I double click on the icon on the desktop I get the change in the taskbar, see photos below, but that's as far as it goes. The program never opens. I've waited as long as ten minutes. I've rebooted three times with the same result each time.
