766  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / 9z-5 skips first track in playlist on: April 26, 2011, 08:05:09 pm
Ran 9z-5 last night for the first time. After an hour of glitchless playing it started to skip the first track when I loaded a new playlist, though it didn't completely skip it. When I cleared the playlist area, loaded a new list and hit play, the first note or two of the first track would play and then it would skip to the next track. This happened several times so I went back to Z-4 (no difference in SQ).

Go to control panel and choose windows update; it is the last icon in the list. On the bottom lower left of the main updates page is a link to "Installed Updates". Click on that and all updates will be listed. Am pretty sure they are listed in the order they were installed with the last being listed first. You can also uninstall them from there.

I have a vista partition that I use for surrfing the web and streaming movies so I don't need any W7 updates.

Just wondering if others find a difference in SQ between Service pack 1 RC and official service pack 1 without any of the subsequent security and OS updates. As described above i had very much degraded SQ when I had all the updates after service pack 1. Removing the updates provided a much more neutral sound, but official service pack 1 still seems a little different from RC.

Don't know if this will help cause I'm not sure i follow everything that's been said here but: if the autohotkey icon is showing up in the lower right taskbar right click on it and select exit to turn it off. Now go to your new 9z-5 folder and start XX from there by double clicking the exe file. Now restart autohotkey and all should work.

Phew! Not sure RC is necessary cause rolling back the security and OS updates, except for SP1, brought back the neutral sound. Better bring it along though, just in case.   Happy

I'll give those settings a try but would put the RC back if I can get my hands on it (Peter, sure hope your RC file is for 32 bit?) With RC  I was able to get very subtle changes with clock res and buffer settings.

YES! If I could take the file off the DVD I will offer as many beers as you would like!

I am so pissed at myself. Last night I uninstalled service pack 1 RC and installed the official service pack 1 release, with it came 26 other updates as well. My sound quality has gone from the most neutral sound I'd ever heard back to Hi Fi glare. Adjusting XX settings makes very little difference. Tonight I will uninstall the 26 other updates and hope that good sound returns.

sh*t.

However, after googling for awhile, a couple of sites suggested using command prompt. One command prompt did not seem to do anything much
but the other one worked like a charm and I was able to install official service pack.

If I am not mistaken, I think it was "wusa.exe /uninstall /kb:976932" while running CMD as administrator.

Thank you!

It is not that if you have a pair you should put them to eBay right away (says me), but if you are looking for something else and more affordable, it could be a good idea to get yourself something I have (115dB sensitive). The person involved may tell about it more objectively ...

Hmmm, waiting here for the name, place and person (Bert, perhaps?) with the "more affordable with 115dB sensitity......!"
777  Ultimate Audio Playback / Chatter and forum related stuff / High Efficiency Speaker Recomendation on: April 17, 2011, 02:59:16 pm
My amp is 35 Watts. My current speakers are very good but seem, at times, a bit overwhelmed by the richness of the mid range the NOS1 puts out. Any suggestions for good high efficiency speakers one could pick up on the used market? I was looking at the Klipsch Heresy III, given my space restrictions, but reviews on them are too varied. Thanks in advance for any replies.

So it took me awhile to figure out how to remove sp1 beta and reinstalled the official SP1.

Is there any way to avoid wiping the hard drive and reinstalling Win7 if the RC uninstall file got deleted? Apparently, according to a google search, the uninstall file for RC is stored in a temp file which gets deleted with basic maintenance/cleanup!
779  Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: 9z-4-1, buffer sizes and clock resolution on: April 15, 2011, 07:38:28 pm
Am pretty certain that "Buffer Size in the Device at 512" means the Juli@ latency setting. So the only thing Peter changed from what was first described in this thread is setting the clock res to 5ms.

I tried setting the Juli@ to 48 but got weird popping noises, but that might be due to my not so up to date system. I think Mani changed his latency setting in the Juli@ to 48 with good results. See his post above. On the other hand, I recall Peter saying that setting the latency too low will cause problems.

Key values :
- KS Special;
- Device Buffer at 512 (as in the Device itself);
- Q1=48 (samples);
- Clock Resolution = 5ms.

Sorry for being slow, but what is your actual XX setting for "Device Buffer Size" with this set up so that your Q1=48? Am assuming that your "Device Buffer at 512 (as in the Device itself)" means that the latency setting in the Juli@ card is 512?
