I'd try completely uninstalling xx, including using control panel uninstall for the two registry files, and then set it up with MC before trying SC. SC on my system is too finicky. No clue if this will work but .......

8. To solve it, type the new Music Root at the bottom, or select it by means of that "..." button (and click Search; not sure about whether this is needed).

Okay, this works now when I change the name of a subdirectory in the main root folder. Thanks!

So glad to be helpful.  Happy

Well I think I found the culprit, sort of. I had renamed my classical directory to Zclassical cause XX would often need to shut down after i played something in that directory and then tried to play something outside of that directory. The classical folder is on the Artist level of the main Music I directory ( E:\Music I\ Artist). When I renamed the directory back to just Classical the library button works again. Seems odd that renaming a directory will cause the library button to quit working like this.

Ok, I did what I expect you did : Just change the Device Buffer Size in the Settings (nothing else), which makes the latency 48 samples (not 32 as I suggested); this while leaving the soundcard to be at 512.

Yes, that is exactly what I did. I forgot about resetting the sound card buffer, but it sounds like that's what Mani did. I have a bit of time right now so I'll give that a try too.

Though I have my Music Root as "E:\Music I\", XX stopped going there when I hit the library button. Instead it goes to the C Drive "Desktop" (See below). I reinstalled 9z-4-1 but it didn't help. Last night, I did change the name of my classical directory in the "E:\MusicI\" directory.

So last night I had an opportunity for a nice 4 hour listening session and was blown away by the latest change in the sound of my NOS1. I am now in week four of the 24/7 break-in period. After about a half hour I started to hear a bit of glare I hadn't noticed before. The glare didn't suddenly start; rather it was there from the beginning of the session, but I didn't immediately recognize it cause of the other positive changes I was hearing. After reading the tool tip on the clock resolution button and remembering what my "best" buffer setting was with my OS DAC, I changed the buffer size from 512 to 48 and the clock resolution from "Max for this System" to "Min for this System." The glare disappeared and a more natural, and I think as Mani would say, "woody" sound emerged. The difference is a bit similar to the difference in sound that came with changing the SFS in 9z-2.

Anyone else notice this?

Geeze, I never saw your post until now. I used a Hiface and a JKenny modified Hiface as an interface between my laptop and my old DAC. Both worked well with kernel streaming. The modified JKenny is a liitle more than twice the price of the standard Hiface. I thought it was worth it.

I ask myself what did booleary in the OS do get passed the message and play MC??

I wish I could say I did something to make it work here but I really didn't do anything. When I tried JPlay and adjusted privileges I was using Vista, but have been on Windows 7 ever since sp1 rc came out. Literally, I haven't done anything to the OS to get MC working here. I can't even say whether hyperthreading is on or off on my system. If Hyperthreading being on is the default setting for Home Premium then it's still on here. How do you check whether it is on or off?

I use MC with Win 7, 32 bit. I don't use SC cause I cannot get a SFS larger than 50. Also, on my system Scheme 2 sounds smoother than Scheme 3. Also, before getting a NOS1 DAC, I used a device buffer of 48 and it sounded great. My current settings are below.

I think the general feeling among most users is that Engine 4 is a much more pleasing and better sound than engine 3, though there do seem to be a few users who prefer the "sharper" sound of engine 3.

Wanna check out your "drum Kit": Sibelius, Symphony #1, Karajan conducting the Berlin Philharmoniker. Its right up there with the Dallas Wind Symphony's, "Crown Imperial". I'm putting this here cause it needs the NOS1 to be "heard"!

Okay, so when i was leaving for work this morning the Borough had posted signs that utility work was being done on my street and there was no parking for a few hours. With no one home, I figured I'd better turn the soudcard off in the NOS1 if the power was to be turned off and on by the power company; I left the dac section, switch 2, on. So what are the possible consequences of the computor being turned off and the soundcard section of the dac inadvertently being left on?

Yeah, I'm a worrier.
794  Ultimate Audio Playback / Phasure NOS1 DAC / Settings for Hi Rez? on: March 18, 2011, 12:35:18 pm
Am listening to a FLAC, 24/96, 2L file, Marianne Thorsen, Mozart Violin Concerto's. Long time ago I converted the FLAC to a wave file, its huge, and am playing the wave. It sounds great upsampled 4x (384).  I've done no SQ comparisons to other possibilities but there is an issue: namely, I cannot play the file as a straight 24/96 file; wether ARC Prediction is or is not ticked it plays at something less than half speed when I play it with no upsampling in XX. It will play at the correct speed at 32/192 and at 32/384. Just wondering what the correct setting is or should be for playing such a file?

Oh, one more thing; if I turn off the 384 switch on the dac (switch 5 in my manual), XX still shows the file playing at 384 when upsampling in XX is set to 4x. Is this possible?

Stupid, studpid, stupid, me that is. You can remove this post. Wrong assumption here. When I hit ALT E the desktop reappears and it looks identicle to hitting ALT S, BUT if I then hit ALT P, THE DESKTOP DISAPPEARS AND PLAY RESUMES WHERE I HIT ALT E. Its just the appearance of the desktop when I hit ALT E that is different......

Yikes! So the slider works (unticking "No Playback") and ALT E works.

Sorry about that.
