Nothing is too much that I know of. What's useless is another thing; 12GB sure is enough. 16GB is "now you can do everything and all" (also don't forget RAMDisk stuff). 8GB works but is tight. More than 16GB is a waste. Less than 8GB is a pain and not good for SQ at all. But it works. (I forgot to order the sequence. ) HTH ! Peter Thanks Peter, The machine will be doing double duty as a video/internet/gaming computer too, so I have those considerations also. btw I do think I have a very clean way of keeping XXHE vs All other computer duties separated. I have one drive with OS win7 for video/internet/gaming, and another HDD with OS win7 exclusively for XXHE. I just plug/unplug a sata cable between the two different OS drives (oh ya and turn on/off&plug/unplug various HDDs-not hard) and I'm back into pure XXHE mode. Since loading 8-a3, I've not left minimized mode when using the HDD for OSwin7/XXHE. one last also,,, This machine does NOT have to be quiet. It is in a closet in the next room to the music room (I've "punched" minimal holes in the extensively insulated walls for the wires) So, jet fans are welcome, as long as they don't mess up the SQ, say by electrical interactions... How's that dual PS study coming?

For now, Has it ever been determined how much memory is too much for an XXHE computer and/or what might XXHE be able to utilize in the near (5 yrs) future?
I know XXHE likes a pretty powerful computer. But I also know that Peter/people shut off as much as possible on our xxhe computers (taking HDDs offline, bluray unplugged, fans off.....) So how much memory is too much before it becomes a detriment to SQ.

Ultimate Audio Playback / Chatter and forum related stuff / Speaker "Gasket" (liquid)

I'm working on switching around my mid drivers (for new/different/configuration). The last time I played around doing this I noticed when I took the speakers out, the speaker builder used some kind of liquid gasket (the speaker cabinet is wood). When I put the new speakers in they didn't mold to the already there gasket very well. I want to scr*pe out the old gasket and put in new ones. Anyone know of what kind of (liquid?) gasket I could use? Or a decent site (im in the us) to go to for speaker parts? Thanks, dave

I ordered and received the card from one of the links in Peter's post (the pro one) a while ago on a whim, but no, I haven't installed it yet. I've got some time coming up in June when I can be more attentive. also, to tell the truth Bolery got me a bit worried and I was hanging back waiting for more feedback, but I'll make the leap as soon as I have time.

Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / Re: 0.9z-8-3a

Glad to hear it. Before the PA days I used to try reverse IPhase when I felt that the sound was not as good as it was expected. With certain recordings there were no noticeable differences but with some others the difference was nigth and day. I think that PA reduced the effect in some way and made me stop using it. At the end all this stuff is phase related.
Maxi
Yep, couldn't agree more.

Dave, it is not difficult (for me haha). Your FireFace buffer is unrelated to this (well, until you proove otherwise).
So it is just that combination of Q1 x Q1F x DevBufSize which equals 14 x 1 x 4096 (this is not what I said in my previous post, but the result is the same, and I here now used my own settings). And mind you, KS Adaptive Mode ! (can't check Special here).
That you twist the formula so your 2048 physical device buffer of the FireFace is in it, is important for other settings. So, it is good if you sustain that 2048 in there, already not to confuse yourself later. That's how my settings turn into 14 x 2 x 2048 for your situation.
Clear ? but more importantly : does it help / work ?
Peter
sooo, ah set the FF800 to 2048 & XXHE setting to 4096 yes? or let me try asking this way. You have a window that pops up saying to be careful and make the XXHE Device Buffer setting the same as my dac. So since my dac only goes up to 2048 when I up 44.1 material to 176.4 material, shouldn't I set the XXHE to the same 2048 or should I just set the XXHE Device Buffer to 4096 no matter what the Fireface800 device buffer can go up to?
