I'm sorry but don't get that,
pics are now in folders together with flac, how to get pics in a certain gallery folder on main drive??
You probably need to read about how to set up a gallery ... (somewhere on this site; I'll link later if I have the time to search). Real basic, (but you'll want to think about what categories or however you want it organized)... you go to Library tab, right click on your selection and you'll see a send to gallery selection.... you'll really need to read more than this if you don't have stuff set up yet. Once you understand it will be easy... hehe but this is what I tell my 1st graders as a teacher... everythings easy once you understand it.

How to set those galleries on main drive then, with special software or what? It's indeed a smart thing to do. I looked at my total size of images it takes up 25 GB. So maybe I do need a 60 GB SSD, Within XXHE > Settings Tab > Music Root ... this is where you tell XXHE where your gallery is. One of the reasons I bought an SSD drive is because I wanted my gallery browsing to speed up (so gallery folder needs to be on SSD) ... it did, and I got the bonus of better SQ.

I just checked my SSD (it's the 128 GB size). I have just over 40 GBs on it now. If you read above, I basically only run XXHE. Here's where it gets big. My Gallery size is up to almost 20GB .... and I haven't even organized everything onto galleries yet. I imagine that when I do that this summer, the gallery folder on the SSD could easily top 40GB ... hehe have a lot of music. Remember, these aren't the actual music wav files, those are on external HDDs using FW, but I guess the picture files and such that Peter loads into the galleries can start taking up space if you have a lot of music.

is my rule of thumb if I'm not using it. My machine is dedicated to Peter's XXHighEnd. First: I followed Peter's guide. Second: I went to BlackViper site and shut down a couple more things, (no memory for what I did...and it wasn't much since Peter hit the big things). Third: I went into the bios and shut down everything I could that I don't use, such as/especially USB. Took the power/sata off my DVD drive, (I don't rip with XXHE computer). Forth: I disable/enable ethernet as needed. Along with shutting down/muting everything I can in the Fireface software (Settings & Mixer), I also exit out of the two FireFace programs that are started (Settings & Mixer), (think I heard a difference here Peter bleh). I disabled all other audio things the FF loads in audio properties that aren't used.
(no I've never tried to listen to all changes if there's a difference... I just do this stuff having learned that even if I can't hear it, things add up; but one thing that I've never had is any major problems running XXHE)
I don't run any Antivirus software. (Never have on any of my computers. On my home computers [gaming rig, browsing rig, daughter's rig] I just manually check for viruses using SuperAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, combofix, regsupreme, or an online site called Trend Micro HouseCall.) I've never gotten a vicious virus, but I don't pirate online much.
The music computer is too new to think about doing this, but every now and then I format my drives and reinstall the OS...heh, so ya, important stuff is always backed up. I probably won't reinstall until I'm ready to try W7.

Peter, how is the overall speed performance with SSD? Using xxhe, as in loading audio files and pictures and to get in unattended and restore services and stuff like that. And how behaves Vista on SSD compares to normal HDD. Does it speed up certain things! Just curious what your experiences are! roy My SSD is still running great. Since I use Peter's Gallery scheme and I have my Gallery on the SSD I think it helps a lot for scrolling through the pictures in the library tab. My WAV/CUE files are on external HDDs daisy chained via FireWire to the computer.... and they go to sleep very soon after being used.... so, my biggest wait time is after I select an album to play from the gallery, it takes 30 seconds to wake up the external hardrive to load the wav/cue into the playlist. My computer is dedicated to XXHE and that is pretty much the only program on there... so can't answer how the SSD works with Vista in general.

i think som weird "echo/decay" appears when I move above 20 on q2&3 sound gets a little unstable not bothered by too much dynamics at any setting best Leif
Could be,,, this is kinda what I might describe what I hear going from 26 to 30 with Q2Q3 Ok, let me throw this out so Jeffc doesn't feel all alone, (btw, I haven't listened to bluray ripped vs non yet, I will try sometime...) Could you measure this for me? When an album doesn't have a back cover, XXHE mirrors the front cover and pulls the song info and tracks/highlights which song is playing in a generated list displayed on the mirrored cover. I would like to see measurements of this situation above vs the old way of just showing the front cover and info in bottom and top margins ()without a generated mirrored cover song list. did that make sense?

Mani,
Right after Q1 was introduced a few of us were seriously testing it and we were shouting to eachother to notch down after starting at the default of 14 (IIRC this was merely off line). At 4 things started to happen, and at 1 we were shouting things got wild and crazy. This was all in a time span of a week or so (slowly getting the grasp), and while at first being under 0 we were all impressed, we later all came back on that. Now, some 2 years further down the line, try violins. They don't work at these low levels. Things seem more detailed, but violins sound digital. Now :
Peter
Just wanted to quickly say I agree with you above Peter. I got Q1 down to -2 for a long while and liked that... then, moved it up to 0 and felt it gave it a not so see through crystal clear view as -2, but did add some weight/meat to the 'notes'. Then Pedal posted about 4 and I moved it up there and liked the balance I heard there and have stayed there. I've listened to 14 for awhile and to me, it is 'woolly'/fuzzy compared to 4,(don't take those terms to too much extreme, just in comparison). 14 not as see through clear as 4. I HAVE NOT listened to settings inbetween 4 and 14, but we should no doubt. Also, as my sig says, I haven't been able to stay at Q2-0 Q3-0 and have moved them both up to 26 - 30. Keeping them at 0 sounds like low Q1 settings compared to 26-30. Moving up to Q2Q3-26 starts putting meat on the notes. 26 compared to 30 = 26 makes it sound more like lower q1 settings and 30 makes it sound more like heading toward 14 ... i thinks Also, moving from Q2Q3-0 to Q2Q3-26-30 changes phase. At Q2q3-0 I like phase ~ (normal?) and at Q2Q3-26-30 I like phase I (invert). Even so with 26-30 there are slight phase changes going on (also phase preference is also recording dependent, but most recordings sound correct at those above basic phase settings given those certain Q settings).

Ultimate Audio Playback / Your thoughts about the Sound Quality / 9x-7

I'm really enjoying the SQ/balance of the new player 9x-7. Also liking/trying Qs 4 26 26 0 0. Invert checked most of the time, but sometimes a recording begs for the inverse (normal). To check for polarity, when listening, try to imagine whether you sense the music pushing toward you or pulling away (you may like that huge sound stage behind your speakers... there is no right or wrong on most of these recordings where the phases from recorded 'tracks' are mixed anyway... pick your poison).

So I guess I am implementing explicit AIF->WAV conversion right now ... Done. Will be in 0.9x-7 as well. Yea, thanks How is the aif being played back now, albeit now one song at a time, if not being converted first to wav? Will you be able to pull off the "tags" that are on the aif and use that info? When are you releasing your new dac?; wait, is that a bit off topic?

I did the $50 for a year deal today. The first 24/88.2 AIFF album I downloaded. Set the fireface software from 48 samples to 128 samples...and tried to play an AIFF file ... took a while to load, no problem has to do its thing; they're big files ... an error window or two pop up.. music plays... .. hmm I decide to do what I always do in these similar computer anomolies... I pull up XXHE and stop/quit it. Reboot the computer. (shut off fireface software... why not) fire up XXHE and push play on the AIFF loaded album files
It Plays, wallpaper pops up ... yea
But only one song plays and then XXHE bounces back up. I can select any song I'd like and it plays,,, but only one at a time. Wish they'd just release this as a WAV/CUE file ... DON'T You?? Also, the liner notes/info they give is in pdf form.... any way to pull that info off as jpg? so XXHE can use it? Any way XXHE can ues pdf? Seems like more and more music downloads are including pdf (grrr) and not jpg (yea free).
I think my second dl is ready now... Mahler sym 6; I'll give it a go. Again though, pretty good deal from BSO; hope other large orchestras consider doing likewise.
