Ultimate Audio Playback / Music Storage and convenient playback / Double, Upsample, AA with whole album WAV/CUE file
|

|
Ticking Double works Ticking Upsample works Ticking AA on top of all that brings up "XXHighend3 stopped working" error Playing the album broken into multi song wav files I can tic all three. Just thought I'd throw this out there. Guess it can't use all the memory I have to play such a large file. I've resisted clicking the mem box... maybe I should try that for fun. I have no opinion yet on the different presentations all these ticked boxes present, but it is all very interesting and listenable at first glance.
PS Lucky me I dropped a glass bowl last night and cut myself deep enough to go to the emergency room to have it glued back together. Gave me the excuse I needed to stay home from work today and listen ... I hope this self destruction wasn't subconscious ... XXHE has some addictive properties Peter. (and man I think this dedicated new computer is just what XXHE needed to kick it up a notch I didn't think was possible ... extremely happy and excited with what I'm hearing).

Ultimate Audio Playback / Playback Tweaks and Source related subjects / Volume Control(s)
|
on: September 17, 2008, 01:11:04 am
|
One of the reasons for the new computer system is to be able to use XXHE volume control without loss of anything. My "preamp" is also my xover for the speakers, so every time I wanted to change volume I had to adjust 4 volume controls... so having XXHE do the volume with one control has been very convenient. But the 6db step up or down is proving to be a bit extreme in volume. Some of the time I can make it work well for my ears, but some of the time I'm also ending up going back to the xover... picky? anyway
My question is can volume be made to be finer gradients? WITHOUT sacrificing the bits/perfect? I think I remember reading at some point that you've done what you could without wreaking the music ... so, oh well. But if possible, can we get smaller jumps in volume? I don't know how we can strive for XXHE xover control in the future if there are going to be such large gradations in volume jumps ... simply will not be able to get the high & lows to mesh.

you know, as 3am approaches here I'm trying to end one of the most memorable listen sessions I've ever had Between my new computer build, new coax dig cable, and now being able to take advantage of more of XXHighEnds' features, I've never heard my system present music so well, so realistic, as tonight. Just saying People shouldn't let these threads dissuade them from trying XXHighEnd It's working awesome for me, (i love unattended with wallpaper of coverart), and the musical soundscape is so clear and intelligible, so fleshed out, I just can't stop listening,,, good thing this happened on the weekend. Well I hear some Dvorak calling me right now; maybe I'll come back at 4am with more accolades

Ultimate Audio Playback / Playback Tweaks and Source related subjects / Full Permission of Windows folder
|
on: September 14, 2008, 07:37:55 am
|
I have full permission of all other folders, but the windows folder won't give me full permission and I think that is why I can't shut off indexing fully on my main C:/ drive. Peter, anyone? do you have full permission control of your Windows folder? Also, using the program dpclat http://www.thesycon.de/deu/latency_check.shtmlIt stays at a constant ~61 ... I think when I first loaded windows without much tweaking/hardware installed I was down in the 20 range. I think the guy that developed Cplay for winxp was able to get down to ~1 (or some absurdly low number; can't find the post now) I don't know if it matters. Anyway, I can follow Peter's advice on how to tweak my system dead except for shutting off indexing of C:/ drive. my 3 external drives shut off no problem. Would it have anything to do with me changing the computer name after the install? FWIW I bought Vista 64 prem SP1 OEM ... I wonder if I should have tried to hunt down one with no SP or what... SP0 I have not gone to the MS site for any updates.

Hi Peter, I sent you an email with log files attachd. Thought I'd post the contents of email here in case others could relate. - Hi Peter, Here are logs. Unfortunately, I now have not been able to reproduce XXHE stopping after the first track! ? That's both using 6a and the executable you gave out 6b. I was able to get it to stop 3 times in a row on Radiohead as mentioned, then I ticked Log Activities and played Radiohead,,, and it didn't stop (using 6a)... i hate computers.
Here is what it did do and has done in the past that I'm betting is related though. I tried to describe this to you a while back but I don't think it made sense to you... I'll try again.
(using 6b sent log files) * Radiohead - InRainbows Plays first song fine Begins 2nd song ... plays ~2 beats in and stops/pauses? Imediately begins song 2 again and plays fine the rest of the album.
It did this during the log files I'm sending you. It also did this same phenomenon this morning with another album Kronos Quartet - In Formation
With Rock, it could almost be considered part of the song, the way it stops and then starts, but if you highlight and start the second song first, you notice that the "false" start is not there. Hope you can find something in the logs.
NEW edit Well, I just tried to play the Kronos Quartet - In Formation this morning again to see if I could get it to "hiccup" for the log files like it did earlier ... it didn't stop/start on the second song like it had :/ oh wellz

I don't know. What I do know, is that when you don't have just all the rights there are, you will run in some problem somewhere (mostly noticeable when doing things over shares / the network.
In the mean time, for Johan at least, I found that the rights for Create folders/Append (see arrow in the picture below) are the most logical rights to prevent you from appending to a file. Not that it makes sense, because the log file acts the same after it has been created explicitly, as was the old way of writing to data files Johan couldn't cope with from the start. Anyway, I'd suggest to give yourself all the rights there are, which are summed up on the page that shows below (including the second screen copy). Note that this place just shows the "effective rights", and they are to be applied at the higher level form you see below (the "Bewerken" button). Some will inherit though ... from somewhere.
You mean to put tics in all those boxes ... right? Why don't your boxes have tics on them? Ack wait, they don't take tics... I guess this means I've already had those attributes going for me...

I'll try v6b tonight. But really I'd like to "fix" my computer so that I have all rights to do whatever. When I tried to shut off indexing on my new computer, I ran into a problem when trying to follow this http://www.phasure.com/index.php?topic=548.msg3934#msg3934 on my main C:/ drive. All my external HDDs I was able to shut off indexing, but with my C:/ drive, it told me certain files were protected and I'm betting I was not able to completely shut off indexing on my C:/ drive,,, do you think this might be related?

Things are working perfectly here now for 3 days or so in attended mode Today i had two stops in unattended mode. I have the impression that you don't get the stops in attended mode. Peter i will send you tomorrow the log files Johan Same here. A couple stops in 6 & 6a. 6a stop just happened now at the beginning of second song (Radiohead - InRainbows cd version singlewav/cue). Unattended Played the wav/cue again and it stopped exactly in the same place... two beats into the second song. Pressed play on second song... it's playing now.

I'd be interested in knowing how fast those SSD's are currently. If you have a moment, could you grab HDTUNE (v 2.55 ) from http://www.hdtune.com/ are run a quick benchmark on it. Hi Dave, anything known from this ? Ah, you are waiting until I mount mine hehe (which I still did not). Also, I think you were implying that making GaLLeries with the checkbox method doesn't work (with 0.9v-5). But I tried, and it does here ? I tried it with LL of course ... Libray Tab right click on an album Select All (checkboxes) Doesn't work for me. It only selects the one album I right click on... it doesn't select (tick checkboxes) all the albums. I just tried it with 6 & 6a versions.

Just about have all my galleries worked out and it is a good bit faster using the main SSD than always having to spin up the external drives just to do a search.

I'm particularly interested in its Average Transfer Rate and Access Time results. My Galleries are getting a big these days and I'm looking for ways of speeding up response also. Thanks, Russ Says Transfer Rate Minimum is 71.6 and Transfer Rate Maximum is 115.1 MB/sec. Average 103.6 MB/sec. Access Time .4 ms burst rate 122.6 MB/sec CPU Usage 4.0% The graphs slowly bounces up and down in a regular pattern. Anyone know the name of the recommended program on here for taking screenshots? This version of vista for xxhe doesn't even have word loaded on it for prtscreen.

G'day SeVeReD,
you don't necessarily need the 'chk box' active to create your entries into the Gallery.
Leave the 'chk' box unticked, and perform your search function as normal to get the list of entries you want showing up in the middle library panel.
Select the first entry with the left mouse button so that it is highlighted. Use the scroll bar to go to the end of your listing, then, while HOLDING DOWN the SHIFT key, click on the last entry with the left mouse button. ALL the entries should then be highlighted. While they are all selected, click on the right mouse button and perform the "gallery/add to gallery" function.
Give that a try.
Cheers,
Russ
Yes, this works out fine. Thanks Just about have all my galleries worked out and it is a good bit faster using the main SSD than always having to spin up the external drives just to do a search.

"There should be one folder at least above the slected one or else coverart can't be displayed properly"
My folder structure is very simple RockFolder > artist - albumFolder > wav files & jpgs ... so I pick RockFolder as my Music Root selection, like mine, F:\Rock My coverart has always shown just fine ... all of it. Do I really have to dump my Rock, Jazz, Classical, Folk .... into another folder called music? Doesn't this just add to folder name lengths and will cause me fits when I have to rename classical stuff because of too long of folder/file names? hehe
(I know I need to remember again how to copy/paste errors, but XXHE is on another machine offline)
edit or does this new higher level folder requirement have to do with the new way you implemented explorer window in library ... hmm edit2 ok I put everything in that drive under a folder called M1
(don't know why I'm bothering with this, as soon as "chk" box gets fixed I'll set up galleries)

Under Library tab, when I tick chk error says, "Not possible when chk not ticked" I've kinda worked it out in my head that it thinks I'm ticking the Grp box ... which I haven't used/explored. I want to tick the Chk Box to set up galleries.
