Yes I'm struggling with this one also.
My thought was to partition drive that OS is on and reformat as FAT. What size would be required for this playback drive?
Is it preferable to use a separate drive rather than partition?
If I've read correctly, PeterSt anticipates that depending on the type of Playback Drive you use (spinning, solid state, usb thumb, memory card ....) there will most likely be SQ differences.... hehe isn't that always the case? I usually only play my system when the moon is at 1/4 or 3/4 full. jk

thanks
I think I have a lot of reading/catching up to do here.
Ok, so... Going to make the "Playback Drive" the Western Digital VelociRaptor (it's only 70 GB and pretty fast spinning drive), and put the OS/XXHE programs on a 320 GB 7200rpm Seagate drive I have lying around.
#####aside
I don't want to mess around with Maximize/minimize anymore because I have to change settings in the fireface 800 each time and reboot a couple times to get from max/min (involved steps that I've learned to do in the right sequence,,,), so...
I've elected to have two OS drives and keep my video/internet OS on one drive, XXHE on another OS Drive, and Playback Drive on a third drive. I'll just physically change the SATA cable from one OS drive to the other OS drive depending on what I'm doing, internet/video or XXHE.
So I'll shutdown move the sata cable to the OS drive I want to use fire up computer
Are there any prefrences as to OS for XXHE? Vista vs Win 7? I think most of us have gone on to Win 7 and feel that's good? I have legit copies of both OS's I could use.

Ritenour fan Cheers, Russ Thank you Russ, I saw Ritenour three times live, one of the greatest guitar players.. Joachim ok I had to chime in here... and I know Peter, lo siento,... but I also saw Lee Ritenour live at the [strike]Belly Up[/strike] The Roxy (sm place in LA) back in the late 70s with Abraham Laboriel on bass Ernie Watts on sax Dave Grusin keyboard Steve Forman Percussionist Alex Acuna Drums {heh I remember the lineup still some 35 years later} I will forever remember this as being the greatest concert of my life. I've never seen a tighter group as they swung with each other, pulled apart, bounced off one another, yet remained a single entity. Went with 3 friends, I think I was still senior in high school. Absolutely incredible, but don't try to find it in his albums, which I like, but have never captured the magic intensity of that night.... shoulda recorded live.

About the Kernel Streaming ... This seems to be about the name "NuForce µDAC 2" with this non-ascii character in there. I ran into this today by accident, but I can tell this is solved for 0.9z-7. Peter hehe I was going to ask if you wanted me to ask Fireface to change the name of the device

Hey Ivo, given the enormous changes in 9z-7 Peter only released it to a few beta testers so the majority of bugs could be worked out before a general release. Sit tight, its going, I believe, to be released soon.
To those who don't have the new version yet. It hasn't been all fun and games. Thanks to Peter I have some tunes going, but... well, computers will be computers. Anyway, Peter is still the hardest working man out there, (meaning he ain't done yet) Thank you Peter Hold onto to yer butts all.

Let me say first that I don't mean it negative from any angle other than "I don't see how it works" (can work).
* * *
Is it a risk for me because I may sell so many DAC against a too low price (way under cost price) ? no. Because I always first have that million (times x now). It can't go otherwise, and/but therefore that second year.
Those manufacturers (Naim and such) won't be doing this for free. It would even be so that they see that nobody who joins this will be seeing their ads anymore. Okay, big deal because they are supposed to buy the products now anyway. But why and how at this 20% discount. So, what's next ?
Because I can make up my little stories right on the spot (just did it again), I can't help myself wanting to see what's behind things. There has to be something because nobody is doing anything for free. Not in the real world, and that seems to be a real world to me.
Why am I typing about this ? I don't know. I'm intrigued.
Regards, Peter
So one possible explanation is that we are smarter than Chris C and everyone at Naim. Let's dismiss that at the outset (for my own part at least, I can provide you all manner of evidence that Chris C and lots of people at Naim must certainly be much smarter than me . So how can this work? It must be something different between you and Naim. One possibility is that the 20% represents the share of the cost per unit taken up by Naim's marketing budget, which they have in a big way and you do not. This is not only the cost of ads themselves, but of the employees involved in marketing, their salaries and benefits, taxes paid on account of them, etc. These subscribers are a group of people who will pay $50 just to belong to a sub-group of an audio forum, so they obviously have disposable income and are highly interested in audio. And no other manufacturers (competitors) will reach them, except for other manufacturers willing to discount. So near-exclusive marketing access to this group, and without having to pay for ads or have more employees in the advertising department. Maybe that is worth on average 20% of the cost of a Naim unit? As you said, just making up my little stories right on the spot.... It all depends what they are selling. Now Peter's idea of $1000 off his NOS DAC; well I'd love for you all to chip in and help me pay for it. Subscribe to Peter's forum now! Bill NelsonLive in Concert at Metropolis Studios, LondonCheck out this great composer, performer, guitarist. In this recent live double CD and DVD Bill performs songs from his Bebop DeLuxe and solo periods from the early seventies until now. Website: http://www.billnelson.com/Cheers, Stanley I'll have to check this out. I'm a big fan of Bill Nelson. He is prolific; always coming out with new material. I saw BeBop Deluxe in Long Beach back in the 70s... was a great concert.
