I have a second pc which i do not use and can make it a music server with one 8 TB HDD...

Good choice. I'd recommend that you get hold of a second HDD and keep a backup of your 8TB HDD on the server also. The HDDs in my server all spin down after literally a few seconds of inactivity and remain that way until accessed again. The Win10 OS is on a separate SSD. When using XX in Unattended and 'copy to XX file', all the files are transferred to RAM in the audio PC and the HDDs in the server spin down. I reckon it's a really neat solution, and should increase the longevity of the HDDs.

Mani.

Ah that sounds good... That's what i did not like in this setup... In my case the Music server is in the same dresser as my XXhighend pc.

Making the XX pc quit as possible but a music server which still makes noise  wacko

 thankyou

Hi Gerard,

In my opinion, you need to connect audio pc, music server & NAS to an Ethernet switch .
https://www.amazon.co.uk/NETGEAR-GS205-100UKS-Gigabit-Ethernet-Desktop/dp/B00AYRZYG4/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1493628581&sr=8-4&keywords=Ethernet+hub

Create static IP address for all 3, XXHE pc, music server & NAS.

RDP connection between XXHE PC & music server.

Then connect music server & remote tablet over wifi, maybe Bluetooth but I'm not sure.

Best regards,

Arvind

ok thanx....

So 1 cable from meterkast to the place where i have the XX pc and Music server... I have such a switch laying around somewhere so i can use that....

Thanx

Hi Gerard,

But that's not the way Peter suggests. It's been proven without a doubt that the audio pc( in your case xxhighend pc) gives better SQ without a monitor, keyboard or mouse connected to it.

Is there a problem using a separate music server, it could just as well be a laptop.

I have a NAS which stores my music but it's connected to the music server (a laptop).

Best regards,

Arvind

Hey Arvind,

No i did not mean that.... Peter said it would be better if i remove the screen an mouse from the XXHighend pc...

I have a laptop and a second pc i do not use.....

I will going to try it the way you all suggest..

 thankyou Happy

Hi Gerard,

I have to leave this to others to chime in. I don't own a NAS, don't like a NAS and don't want a NAS.
This is personal.

I hope others will help you.

Regards,
Peter

So you are saying..... you dont like it  evil rofl rofl rofl

Well that's honest  Wink Wink

Thanx

Thanx everybody....

One of the reasons for the NAS would be that i can easily store it in the electricity cabinet. (Meterkast)

And it looked a bit to technical for me to install a second pc with a tbalet for remote....

Peter asked me to open a new topic about this so maybe i just should do that....

But first i need to be under the floor for pulling a LAN cable from my music pc to the meterkast..

Il be back  Wink Wink Wink

Hi Gerard,

How would you operate the XXHighend PC in your proposed set up?

Regards,

Arvind

Hey Arvind

Just the way i do it at the moment... Screen with keyboard and mouse....

But that would not be the best way i suppose.

Goodmorning Everybody,

Instead of using a second pc for music storage i like to use a NAS.
Is that possible and can i access the NAS trough LAN? I do not have Wifi.

And can i buy any NAS for this? thankyou

So XXHighendpc => LAN KABEL => NAS

or

XXHighend PC => LAN KABEL => Router => NAS

Peter,

Your signature for a "normal pc" say's this

Performance Index = Not the best (OS from RAM issue) / Time Stability = Off (OS from RAM issue)

Is that still so??

Or can i try it?

And can i change when i am in RAM or do i have to UNRAM it first before going in to...
