Hi Gerard - No, I said that, but merely about processors. But I think Roy said something like you shouldn't *bother* about it. Maybe I'm wrong though.
What I do recall is that I told about the capacitors living longer when it's less hot in there. But I added to it that by the time they die you will have chosen another board again ...
All 'n all I think it can be beneficial to use less energy (not for the green thing but for SQ). But I am really not into those things. That is, not in the PC area. Others will be better at this, I'm sure !
What would be completely wrong is when the energy saving board would only accept energy saving processors.

Peter All, Instead of the Gigabyte EG45M-Ud2H the seller sold me the EG43M-S2H. He made a mistake. As i recall did you say to me that i should NOT get a energy saver MB? The EG43M-S2H is a energy saver. And what is wrong with those? Should i go try it? Grtz and nice weekend.. Gerard |

First let me say I'm a huge fan of xxhighend and all the people who contribute to this site. I've heard xxhighend on a very high-end system and it was eerie how the soundstage changed dramatically.
So I am now convinced to go digital and have been doing research on different DACs, computers, storage, sound cards, etc.
My question is if you have $5-$8 thousand dollars to spend on a digital system what would you recommend.

Hey Music, IMO buy Peters Phasure NOS1 DAC.  That is the most important thing in your new system.  |

Peter, What about the buffer error apearing after a few minutes. During playback. Does that man that i have to go one step higher in the buffer size? Or do i have to fine tune with Q1? |

(All SPDIF) Ok, I don't know. But what means "buffer mode at 728" ? ... 728 does not exist ... ? Peter, Sorry i meant 768. But i am back to USB that plays fine with a buffer size 256 (AM). Another one : Does the latency that we have learned in AM also count for SM? Or can we say in SM that the lower the latency the better.  |

I have a view questions.
How come that KS now does work with my EMU where it before did not. KS trough special mode 4096 with q1 at 1204. Adaptive mode play's with a buffer mode at 728. (All SPDIF)
Trough USB much lower (SM 5)(AM 256)
With the DAC connected via USB indeed the errors buffers size come's up at a setting. Connected trough SPDIF (EMU) it does not. Only cracks shows me i do not must go lower.
When those error's do not apear i cant be sure that i am in the right setting or? (meaning Adaptive mode)
Anti Image takes much more time to start playback.

It's working on USB!
Both channels. I think it's the shorter USB-wire that made the difference but not 100% sure.
Don't want to break it to find out...
It plays 16/192 max so no arc, don't know if it sounds better, but it sounds good.
Me having a real short USB cable so you may be right on that!  (I never have enjoy music so much as i have done these past week) (Really!) |

Also for the record,
with USB I can get very low (2 samples), but only one channel is working, guess a DAC problem.
With firewire/SPDIF I can listen at highest Q-rate and only 88 samples in the Terratec, but with constant rattle.
Gerard - Interesting ... That is, at a higher setting the two channels start to work ? I have the same DAC and i am playing at 5 samples and everything is working great!! Below this 5 there is no sound on both the channels. |
