Hi SeVeReD
I concur with Ava. Whilst you are in the bios, go to the boot menu & disable the "Full screen logo" then when you re-boot you should see what your memory is running at instead of the manufacturers blurb.
Happy days

Hi SeVeReD
That is exactly what happened, W8 didn't like being in 2 locations on the same drive, I guess.
But all is well now!
Back to the music!

Hi Peter
I have found the problem, it was my fault & I'm sorry to have wasted your time (grovel. grovel).
When I first unpacked v8 it spread itself all over my C drive, thinking it hadn't worked I did it again. This time, as usual, it unpacked into it's own folder on the root of C: as I mentioned. I was just going to try your solution when I noticed XXHE files all over the place, so I deleted them. Having done so it now runs as it should. So, for whatever reason these random files stopped it from running!?
Sorry, what did you say, I'm a what?
Happy days
Jack

Hi
Tried that yesterday, no go, I'll stick with w7 & wait for next version to see what happens then.
No one's going to die in the meantime!

Hi Peter
All I get is one message, no more clues I'm afraid!

Hi Peter
I have my own w8 problem, it won't launch. I immediately get the message "XXHighEnd has stopped working" Perhaps a 64bit thing? All previous versions work fine. It's a fresh install in it's own folder on the root of C: as usual.
Happy days

69  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / 2nd activation on: June 16, 2008, 10:17:28 pm
Hello Peter
I hope all is well. Can you supply an activation code for my 64 bit PC. Try as I may I cannot get it to activate over my network!?

Many thanks
Jack

72  Ultimate Audio Playback / XXHighEnd Support / RAM Buffer on: August 06, 2007, 11:06:37 pm
Hi Peter
With this latest version I am waiting about 20 seconds between tracks over a 100mb/s network, however I configure it, whereas the previous version was maybe 3 or 4 secs. So presumably, whatever you changed to help out with slower connections has made me much "gappier". Even with a local drive, tracks that blend with each other on CD, there is a momentary gap. Much more irritating when playing loud, as I usually do. Hence my question or request, is it possible to have a user configurable RAM buffer that could be as large as say 1 gig & start to refill when down to 15/20 meg or so. This obviously would take care of gaps, just meaning a delay before play commences, which you get anyway if you load a large WAV. Memory is so cheap & I usually have a gig & a half sitting idle! Think of it as saving the planet, we could all turn off our servers or external hard disks an hour earlier at night as all would be in RAM on the playback PC!
Just a thought

Hello Peter
That was me. You noticed! Not too subtle after all. But no more...

Hello Peter
Two heads are indeed better than one! Especially if one of them is yours! That WAS the problem. Somehow both had become unchecked!? I'm annoyed with myself that I didn't look there, the word "Exclusive" was a big enough clue! All is as it should be, thanks again. I have a Fireface 400 turning up tomorrow, so I needed to get some serious listening in on #3 & prepare for what's to come!
Gapless & Happy Jack

Hello Peter
It's weirder than that, not only does #3 do this every time, but it will not run now on any of the previous versions of XX!?
As we know it doesn't install anything so I'm trying to figure out what on earth has changed in my OS. The only change I know of was an auto update to Defender yesterday that I cannot remove. Apart from that....? I had this message before when trying to upsample with a DAC that won't (on USB). For the time being I am having to use #1 or#2. Very odd!
